What Is The Best Parchment Paper for Rosin Pressing?

THE PRESS CLUB BEST QUALITY PREMIUM PARCHMENT PAPER

Todde Philips

🇺🇸 Retired veteran, father, rock-climbing expert & rosin connoisseur

✅ Updated 2/23/21

Next to rolling paper for cannabis flowers, parchment paper may be the most popular type of paper in the cannabis industry (with paper money being a close runner up). But what exactly is parchment paper, and why is it in such high demand?

Parchment paper is a cellulose-based paper that’s been treated and coated to make it non-stick and resistant to high heat. The main “non-sticky” factor comes from a thin layer of silicone that’s applied to the paper during manufacturing.

THE PRESS CLUB BEST QUALITY PREMIUM PARCHMENT PAPER

So how is parchment paper used in rosin? It actually has several uses (e.g. short-term rosin storage solution), but it’s main value for extractors is its ability to effectively catch the fresh dripping rosin as it’s squeezed out of the cannabis material during extraction. Without quality parchment to catch, contain, and direct the flow of rosin, you’d end up with a sticky mess on your plates and press with no good way to collect your ruined rosin.

Parchment paper protects both your rosin, your press, and your plates. The very first thing your freshly made rosin will touch is parchment paper, so make sure you go with a quality product that’s worthy of the job. You don’t want to compromise on parchment paper.

With so many parchment paper manufacturers, how do you know which brand you should use specifically for rosin? Let’s start with some things you want to avoid.

Parchment paper for rosin extraction purposes shouldn’t be a thin and overly flimsy paper that’s hard to work with and prone to tearing. Paper that’s not food grade, high heat and solvent-resistant, and FDA approved doesn’t make the cut.

If it feels too flimsy and fragile in your hands, it’s not up to the task.

When you’re shopping for parchment paper for rosin pressing, strength and durability should be at the top of the list. You don’t want a parchment paper that’s prone to tearing or bursting under the heat and pressure of a rosin press.

Be sure the parchment is coated on one side with silicone, which will not only make the surface non stick, but will contribute to the paper’s effectiveness in resisting heat and terpene degradation. Silicon provides the “rosin release” that you want when it’s time for collection.

Terpenes produced by the cannabis plant are naturally occurring solvents that can actually dissolve other substances. Using a parchment paper that’s not designed specifically for rosin extraction can lead to bleeding through and staining on your plates and other gear.

Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book.

The Press Club parchment paper is specifically designed for rosin extraction. It’s got all the qualities to look for in rosin-grade parchment, in 5x5inch pre cut sheets or entire rolls so that you can easily customize your own sizes.

Plus it’s backed with a satisfaction guarantee and full 365-day warranty in case you don’t love the product.

Select a rosin parchment paper that can be your workhorse at the press. Parchment paper definitely isn’t a glamorous element of your extraction process, but it plays a critical role that shouldn’t be neglected. And beyond it’s basic functionality, the right parchment paper will make the pressing process easier and more enjoyable, with the reliability and convenience of a premium product.

Happy Pressing!

What is the best parchment paper to use for rosin? Use parchment paper made for pressing rosin. The parchment paper should be thick and durable with a generous layer of silicone coating. The Press Club parchment paper is designed for rosin and is the best choice for solventless extraction.

What is the best brand for rosin parchment paper? The Press Club makes parchment paper specifically designed for rosin production. Our specialty blend of paper is 2x thicker than store bought parchment paper, which helps prevent tears during extraction.

Can you reuse parchment paper for rosin? One you've collected rosin from parchment paper with a dabber tool or rosin stamp, consider the parchment finished. You can squish multiple bags in the same sheet of rosin paper, but once you've collected the rosin it's time for a fresh sheet of parchment.

Is parchment paper toxic? No, parchment paper is not toxic. It's made with food-grade materials like plant cellulose and coated with a heat-proof layer that won't leach into your products.

How Much Does Parchment Paper Cost? High quality, durable parchment paper is well worth the cost. It's most economical to purchase by the roll. You can spend under $30 for an entire roll of parchment paper made specifically for rosin .

I just purchased a press. Not sure what temperature or how much press to use to press my products. Also how much time I should keep the pressure on .

the main feature of paper you need to know when shopping for one to do the pressing is its weigh – 55 lb is absolute top, 35 lb is fine, food grade is not that heavy so you should know

How To Make Hash At Home Using Kief From Your Grinder

Don’t waste that sweet stuff collecting at the bottom of your grinder. Learning how to make hash from kief is simple.

/

Rob Hoffman

Making hash from kief is easy and requires minimal supplies. Technically, you could roll kief around in your fingertips and voila! Finger hash. Alternatively, put your kief into the corner of a plastic sandwich bag and squish it together repeatedly with your fingers. After about 10 minutes, you’ll have hash.

In case you want to see how 100% kief-based hash should look like, check out this Super Lemon Haze CBD Hash from Pure CBD Vapors. Ideal for beginners or experienced hash smokers alike, this product is tasty and 100% kief-based. It even comes with a pipe!

But if you want to make a beautiful, black rectangular slab of hash—the kind you see in the movies—you’re better off following this simple but effective hash making method.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED:

  • A Mason Jar
  • Parchment or wax paper

WHAT TO DO:

  • Pour your kief onto the parchment paper. Keep it in a fairly neat square shape if possible.

2. Fold your parchment paper tightly around the hash in squares. If necessary, use tape to keep the parchment paper folded around the kief. If you have scissors, cut off any excess parchment paper hanging off of the square of kief. The goal is to have parchment paper covering every inch of your kief, but no more than that. Put another big sheet of parchment paper underneath your parchment paper covered hash square to act as a placemat.

3. Fill your jar with boiled water and fasten the lid tightly. Use an oven mitt , towel, or cloth to handle the jar after it’s filled with boiling water. It will be very hot to touch.

4. Roll the hot jar of water back and forth across the parchment paper covered square of hash. Apply pressure to the jar while rolling it back and forth. Do this for up to 10 minutes.

5. Put the parchment paper covered hash square in your freezer for an hour. This will cool it down, and make it easily separable from the parchment paper.

6. Take your hash out of the parchment paper and enjoy!

How to Make Hash Oil from Kief

Hash oil is known by many names. Shatter, wax, dabs—whatever you call it, the purpose is the same: to elevate your high to the next level. Fortunately, making hash oil from kief is even easier than making hash from kief.

To make hash oil from kief, you only need three ingredients (and one of them is kief.) The first two steps are also nearly identical to how you make hash from kief. So without further ado, read this quick guide and make some hash oil already.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

1. Kief 2. Parchment paper or wax paper 3. A hair straightener

How to Make Hash Oil from Kief

Then, wrap that square of kief in another sheet of parchment paper (you only need to fold this second sheet over the square once.)

3. Turn your hair straightener on the lowest setting, and let it heat up for 1 – 2 minutes.

4. Clamp your hair straightener over the rectangular shape of your kief, and press down hard. Use one hand to clamp the iron shut, and press down on top with your other hand so that the iron is being squeezed between your hand and the table beneath the hair straightener. Push down hard, and hold for about 10 seconds. Be careful not to burn yourself, you may need oven mitts depending on how hot the outside of the straightener gets.

5. Remove the parchment paper containing the kief from the hair straightener, and unfold it. You’ll notice that hash oil has been squeezed out of the edges of the inside square of kief-filled parchment paper. That oil is ready to smoke! But you probably have more kief in your square of kief-filled parchment paper, so fold a new sheet of parchment paper around it once more, and repeat steps 4 and 5 until all the kief has been used.

6. The golden-colored substance left over on the parchment paper is your hash oil. It’s recommended that you enjoy it out of a dab rig .

Using parchment paper for cannabis concentrates.

We at Zenlogy are always on the lookout for new and unique ways to utilize our parchment paper, so when we learned that the quickly budding (pun intended) cannabis industry is making use of our  parchment paper , we were pretty excited! Because of this newly discovered application of parchment, we decided to look into how exactly it is being used and the process involved.

For some time now, the cannabis industry has been making concentrates (super potent versions of marijuana buds). These varying forms of concentrates are known by many terms, but are most frequently referred to under the umbrella term of “dabs.” Many differing types of cannabis concentrates produced by extracting cannabinoids like THC and CBD fall under this primary moniker: shatter, honey, budder, sap, wax, taffy, and oil. While Shatter is described as a harder, more brittle substance (apt to shatter when it falls, hence the name), most of these extracts have a stickier consistency and this is where the parchment paper comes in.

When working to extract the concentrates, the marijuana (or in the case of creating CBD oil, hemp) buds go through a solvent extraction (generally butane) to strip the chemicals that make up the psychoactive and medicinal components of the plant. All that remains are cannabinoids. Because of the sticky nature of the concentrates, parchment paper works really well to collect the extracts and allows them to be easily collected and removed from a surface because of the non-stick quality of the parchment.

Parchment also works as a great surface to store the substance, though it is not suggested to store it for more than a week at room temperature and more than 30 days refrigerated. Keeping the oils folded in a sheet of parchment within an air-tight container could preserve the substances for a little longer.

Some people use parchment paper in home-made rosin extraction, using the parchment paper and a hair straightener, by folding the parchment over the buds and running the hair straightener along the parchment. This works well because parchment paper is resilient to temperatures up to 450 degrees Fahrenheit.

It seems that people tend to cut their own sheets of 4x4 parchment paper to utilize these processes. Fortunately, we offer 200 sheet boxes of the 4x4 pre-cut parchment paper, which cuts some much needed time out of this process.

We loved learning about this new and fascinating method for using parchment paper. It’s always exciting for us to discover the myriad applications of parchment paper in different fields and industries, and this one was certainly a fun surprise for us! We hope you learned as much as we did! For more information about the different methods and practices of cannabis concentrates, visit here or here .

We invite anyone that may be privy to more information regarding cannabis concentrates to please feel free to share their knowledge in the comments. We are parchment paper experts, not cannabis (lol) and we are happy to hear any feedback or input regarding this topic.

How to Make Rosin the Easy Way

After reading a BigBudsMag.com article about how to make rosin and why rosin is getting to be more popular than BHO, I decided to try it myself.

It only took me an hour to figure out how to do it.

So here’s how to make rosin the easy way:

  • Buy a reliable rosin press. I bought the “twist double-plate” rosin press from Rosin Tech . It cost $495 but was a great investment that has paid for itself many times over.
  • Get non-wax parchment paper.
  • Prepare your bud by removing stems, twigs, leaves without resin glands.
  • Place bud in the parchment paper and fold over. For my press, which has a small, two-part heating plate, I use about 4-5 grams of bud per squish.
  • Set your temperatures and timing. Temperatures and timing are the crucial factor for successful rosin making. My favorite settings right now are 210°F at 21 seconds.
  • After each squish, put the parchment paper with rosin on it in the freezer. The cold temperature will make it a lot easier to get the rosin off the paper.
  • Store the rosin in stainless steel or glass container in freezer. It’ll stay fresh for at least four months.

Compared to shatter, budder, and dry sift, I rank my rosin as stronger than dry sift, kief, and bubblehash.

It’s safer than solvent marijuana concentrates, but about 10-25% less potent than solvent concentrates like butane honey oil and its derivatives.

When looking at how to make rosin, here are things to watch out for:

  • Get a reliable rosin press. I talked to three marijuana concentrates hardware supply shops about how to make rosin. I also talked to the most successful commercial manufacturer of rosin in California. They all recommended Rosin Tech presses based on reliability, ease of use, and warranty.
  • Use rosin bags and screens, especially when using kief, bubblehash, or dry sift. This prevents the kinds of mess that can happen when you’re squishing and the resins blow out the side of your paper. Rosin Tech has a fantastic variety of screens and bags that you can see here .
  • Get a stainless steel rosin scraper or dab tool to separate the rosin from what you squeezed it in. Take a look a these dab tools .
  • For every 4-5 grams of bud I squish, I get about 1-2 grams of rosin.
  • For every 5-8 grams of dry sift, bubblehash, kief I use, I get 90% rosin return. I use 175°F at 20 seconds to squish dry sift, bubblehash, kief.
  • Watch out for pieces of bud getting into the rosin. It takes serious attention to detail to create totally clear, 100% clean rosin. Sometimes I get 1-3% contamination of plant material, which doesn’t bother me.
  • Use an electric nail or other dabbing rig to consume your marijuana rosin.

Now you know how to make rosin.

There aren’t any solvent toxins, and you get a portable, potent cannabis product in just a few seconds of squishing.

  • How to Press Rosin at Home

Wednesday September 8, 2021

  • Helpful Guide
  • Concentrates

Rosin that has been pressed at home and collected onto a parchment paper.

T he number of states with some form of legalization in place is increasing every month, adding to the already growing number of people becoming avid cannabis consumers with access to high-quality products. Concentrates , vape cartridges , edibles, and other innovative creations have captivated beginners, connoisseurs, and everyone in between, while ancillary product manufacturers have provided technology to adapt to the growing market(s).

One such market that has seen exponential growth through cannabis legalization has been home growing and extraction . No longer needing to worry about the legality of growing a personal amount of cannabis, many home cultivators have been able to hone their craft and yield exceptional flower and are looking for things to do with it. While hydrocarbon extraction is very much illegal (and will probably remain illegal due to the dangers involved), recent innovations in the solventless space have allowed for home growers to make use of their harvest in an exciting new way: pressing rosin.

With the right equipment (and the right starter material) pressing rosin at home can be extremely rewarding, resulting in fine solventless concentrates. Follow along as we explore the process of pressing rosin at home.

What Types of Concentrates Can Be Made at Home?

Home growing and rosin production, advancements in rosin pressing and solventless hash washing technology, key aspects to consider when pressing rosin, basic rosin pressing overview, rosin finishing and hash storage techniques, final thoughts on making your own rosin.

Many states allow for creating concentrates at home, however, there are some specific restrictions and regional laws to be aware of.

As mentioned, no conversation about home extraction can be had without addressing a large elephant in the room: at-home hydrocarbon extraction has been the cause of several dangerous explosions resulting in property damage and serious personal injury.

For this reason, nearly all home-based hydrocarbon extraction is illegal, in almost all legalized states (we use this double qualifier because some state laws do not directly address the issue of home concentrate production).

Butane extraction is the most common to be banned, but a grouping of similar compounds like hexane and methane are considered along with it in the same sentiment. Many state laws go out of their way to name such compounds or include language that is meant to cover them.

Here is a sampling of the laws in major legalized states:

  • In Oregon , concentrates can not be extracted using butane, hexane, isopropyl alcohol, ethanol, and carbon dioxide.
  • In Colorado , the law states that you cannot manufacture marijuana concentrate using an inherently hazardous substance. Such substances include butane, propane, and diethyl ether, but specifically do not include alcohol or ethanol.
  • In Michigan , separation of plant resin by butane extraction, or another method that utilizes a substance with a flashpoint below 100 degrees Fahrenheit is banned.
  • In California , you cannot make use of a “toxic” chemical, which is noted as, “such as butane.”
  • In Illinois , home producers are banned from using “volatile or explosive gas, including, but not limited to, canisters of butane gas.”
  • In Washington , you cannot use “butane or other explosive gases to extract or separate resin from marijuana,” and the law notes, “cooking oil, butter, and other nonexplosive home cooking substances may be used to make marijuana extracts for noncommercial personal use.” Ideally, rosin pressing falls under the latter.

Few states that have home cultivation explicitly outlaw all types of concentrate production. Here is where pressing your own comes in!

Due to safer production methods and a lack of hazardous chemicals, solventless concentrates are considered safe and are allowed to be produced at home in many legalized states, and a few states even go out of their way to acknowledge that solventless preparations are permitted in their laws.

You’ll need to check your local laws to be sure that solventless concentrate production is legal in your area. If you’re uncertain about your local regulations, consider reaching out to your state’s local cannabis regulatory board. It may take a little time to get a response, but most are happy to help and answer your questions.

Dry sifting is by far the most basic form of solventless production and can be done with just screens and shaking, making it the most likely to be allowed. A crude version of trichome sifting happens in the kief collector of a flower grinder, and to our knowledge, no legalized state has banned those (again, always always check the laws if you’re unsure). In terms of what’s permissible, after sifting would be ice water hash, also due to the minimal and basic nature of the elements involved. A select few states may push back against the heating element of rosin pressing, but those appear to be rare instances.

Overall, solventless products are the ideal path to choose for those looking to make their own concentrates at home and are permitted in most states that allow for home cultivation.

Advances in both home growing and solventless concentrate production mean that those looking to get into at-home rosin pressing are free to explore and experiment with relative safety. Home hash makers have the peace of mind of having personal oversight over each step of production and ensuring that their products meet their own personal standards of purity and cleanliness. Operations like PurePressure have made purpose-built rosin presses and hash washing machines that are approachable to both novice and experienced producers alike. With this combo of circumstances in place, there’s never been a better time to dive into rosin production.

When discussing DIY rosin pressing , one of the first things that enters the conversation is the hair-straightener method. In short, you can somewhat replicate the rosin pressing process by using just a hair straightener, a nug of cannabis, and some parchment paper. The process is simple: you heat up the hair iron to a low setting, place a nug between folded parchment, and squeeze. Though an extremely rudimentary version of it, the overall setup does include everything that goes into rosin pressing: pressure, heat, and a way to collect what comes out. It can be a fun way to get a dab from a place you might not expect it.

However, by today’s standards, that’s about the equivalent of frying an egg on a hot car engine. Is it technically possible? Sure. Is it the ideal way to prepare an egg? Far from it. The rosin will likely be of low quality, with minimal yield, and might not be worth the nug it was squeezed from. The modern market has come a long way from this dorm-room level tech, and now there are numerous machines for making high-quality rosin at home.

For the best results in home pressing, consider a purpose-built machine directly intended for making rosin. While there are numerous options that adapt hydraulic presses built for other primary purposes, they are unlikely to grant the same level of versatility and control. However, in the end, the important thing is to come away with a way to press rosin, so go with what you can, you can always upgrade later as you develop your skills.

Similarly, the old “traditional” way of making ice water hash makes use of a Brute brand plastic garbage bin. Today, technology has moved beyond making hash in garbage containers, and dedicated hash washers allow for more efficient, cleaner harvesting, with higher yields and an overall better end product. We’ve reviewed the Bruteless hash washing vessel before, and come away quite impressed. While the initial investment into equipment might be more, the resulting jump in quality is hard to argue with.

Again, even if you don’t wind up going top of the line for every element of your production, upgrading at least a part of it will have a big impact, so look into hash washers if you’re wanting to make your own ice water hash for pressing.

Remember that if you can start out from any point and build as you go.  Even if your total setup is a patchwork of older and newer technologies, making rosin today has advanced far beyond the days of hair straighteners. Take advantage of available technology whenever able for the best rosin results.

A quick note before we dive in: when making rosin, the quality of your starting material is of fundamental importance. With solventless concentrates, the true profile of the cultivar is preserved throughout the process, so if you start with mediocre flower, you’re more likely to wind up with mediocre rosin, and the same goes for starting with hash. Press whatever bud or hash you’re drawn to, but be aware that the process won’t improve on your material’s quality the way that some hydrocarbon methods can.

Speaking of starter materials, one of the first things you’ll need to determine is what to press, dry sift, flower or hash? Broadly speaking, hash pressing is likely to have higher yield and quality than pressing flower, due to the lower amount of plant matter. Furthermore, flower must be cured before it can be pressed (Flower must be dried, but the 55-62% relative humidity [RH] range is perfect.). When flower is dried and cured, there is a higher likelihood of cannabinoid and terpene loss. Impressive rosin can be pressed directly from flower and kief, (if you’re familiar with our Helix rosin press review , you’ll note that the PotGuide team has pressed some ourselves).

Next, you’ll want to determine the duration, temperature, and pressure of your press.

There is no standard duration for rosin pressing, and can range anywhere from about 1 to 5 minutes, but it will be up to you and your starter material to determine what’s right for each press. Denser material like flower tends to be longer, while and the finer your hash is, the less time it will take.

For temperature, you’ll aim for a different range of heat depending on the starter material as well.

Hash can be pressed well between 160°F - 200°F, flower 200°F - 220°F, and dry sift between 180°F - 220°F. You can go as low as about 140°F when using top-quality hash.

Lower temperatures tend to preserve more flavor and terpenes, and higher temperatures tend to do better for yield, but things like density and relative humidity will impact these factors as well.

As for pressure, this variable will have the widest range and will be the most dependent on what you’re pressing. For rosin, pressing between 300 and 1000 psi is ideal, for flower you’ll move a bit higher between 600-1000 psi, and finally, kief or hash will range between 300 and 800 psi. Having an understanding of the difference in pressure between starting materials can be key to avoiding potential blowouts.

We’ll be using PurePressure’s Helix 3 Ton Manual Rosin Press as an example because it's what PotGuide has the most familiarity with, but the information here is applicable to most presses.

To start, at minimum, a good rosin press needs to allow for fine-tuned and accurate control of heat and pressure to deliver high quality, consistent results. As you shop around for your press, you’ll notice that pricing for most options reflects how well they perform these two tasks. Lower priced options are likely to have less accurate control, however, that’s not always the case. Just be aware as you’re making your selections.

Once you’ve got a press sorted, next you’ll turn to your starter material to prepare it for pressing.

To begin, regardless of whether you’re starting with flower or hash, you’ll need to load your starter into a filter bag. It is recommended to invert the bag to allow for flatter seams and optimal contact with the pressing plates.

Next, shape the material in the bag into an even rectangular shape, mimicking the shape of the bag. Cleaner, defined lines will allow for a smoother, more even pressing, and thus better yield. Proper shaping also helps to avoid bag blowout by diminishing the development of pressure points within the bag as it’s pressed.

Then, prep your parchment paper on the machine. When determining how much paper to use, remember to account for drip and flow, and leave appropriate room.

Center the filter bag on the plates and set the plates. For hash and sift, you’ll want to warm the starting material before pressure is applied, which you can achieve by setting it on the plates and lowering the top plate so that the starter is just barely touched, then setting the plates to low heat. This helps to begin the emulsion of the terpenes and cannabinoids. For flower, simply move on to pressing.

Next, you’ll start the actual press. Make sure that your plates are at the desired heat and lower your press. Using the Helix, turn the handle to lower the plates until you’ve hit the right pressure,  the Pressware operating system will allow you to carefully monitor and adjust your presses. Turn the handle to progressively add pressure (temp, duration and pressure guidelines from above) and watch the rosin flow.

After the press is complete, remove the parchment paper from the press, then remove the bag from the parchment and collect the rosin, either by using a scraper and putting it onto a fresh piece of parchment for storage or pouring it into a glass jar while still warm (depending on how much starting material you pressed and your overall yield.).

You can repeat the pressing process 2-3 times on your filter bag to get out every last drop. You’ll typically notice some degree of difference between the presses, and this is why you’ll often see rosin products noted as either first or second press. Upping the temperature as you go into your second press is a good way to help maximize yield and get the remaining cannabinoids and terpenes out.

In general, 2nd press flower rosin is more suited to making edibles and topicals, however, 2nd press hash can often be of high quality. Sift can go either way, as it has a wider variance of quality and debris material.

For home pressing, classic “coin” style rosin will be the easiest to make, because it requires no post-production manipulation. You can also opt to “cold cure” which consists of letting fresh-pressed rosin sit in a sealed jar at room temperature (or just slightly below it) for a day or two.

If you’re feeling a little more adventurous, you can gently warm and then whip your rosin to produce the badder-like consistency.

However, the sky's the limit. As you hone your rosin-making abilities, you can venture into more advanced techniques like jar tech — which involves carefully manipulating temperature inside of a sealed jar to induce THCA crystallization and create “diamonds” and other novel rosin forms. These techniques work best with top-quality hash (any may be difficult or impossible to achieve with lower quality product), so think of these as a target to aim for.

Be aware that your coin-style rosin is susceptible to “buttering” if it is not refrigerated or frozen. It will lose its clarity and take on a more milky or chalky appearance. Thus, refrigerated storage is ideal, limiting light and air exposure. If you’re keeping rosin in your kitchen fridge, remember to put it in an opaque or tinted container to avoid repeated light exposure when you open the door (or make good use of that crisper drawer). However, this is only ideal for about a week or two.

If you’re looking for longer term storage for your rosin, opt for fully freezing. -4°F is what you’re aiming for to best deter degradation.

Frozen rosin can be good for many months (or more), but will slowly diminish in potency and flavor over time.

So now you’ve got yourself some premium, homemade rosin. For an optimal experience, it’s worthwhile to learn a bit about how to consume it. We’ve got a whole Hash Rosin Consumption Guide on the matter if you’re interested.

Connoisseurs consider low-temp dabbing to be the optimal way to fully take in the full cannabinoid and terpene profile, but you can scale up to your taste. Be wary of going too high though, for all the effort that went into making it, a burnt rosin hit is a wasted rosin hit.

The rosin pressing community is an active one, so consider connecting with other solventless concentrate makers and professionals. PurePressure offers considerable resources to both novice and professional solventless producers on their website.

As your skills develop, it can be incredibly rewarding to compare your efforts to those available on dispensary shelves. How are you stacking up? Is there a mark you’re missing (or surpassing)? Analyzing your results can help you improve as you hone your craft and learn from others. Solventless concentrate making has a long and storied history, and as you start to make your own, you’re joining a long line of artisans. Take your time, and enjoy the journey!

Decarboxylation guide: How to properly decarb weed

  • What is decarboxylation?

How does decarboxylation work?

Why decarboxylation is necessary for edibles, at what temperature does decarboxylation occur, decarboxylation temperature chart, how to decarb weed in an oven, can you decarb weed in a microwave, read more of leafly’s guide to cannabis edibles.

Decarboxylation (pronounced de-carb-OX-yl-a-tion), is a process that actives the psychoactive compounds in the cannabis plant so that you feel high when you consume it.

The cannabis plant contains THCA , which will not get you high, and that THCA needs to be converted into THC in order for you to get high. This is most commonly done with heat—the flame of a lighter, the atomizer in a vape pen, a torch with a dab rig, or an oven when making edibles.

THCA in the plant has an extra carboxyl ring in its chemical structure, and heat removes that ring, or de-carboxylates, the compound, hence where the term comes from.

Decarboxylation occurs through heat, and also time. The high temperatures when smoking and vaporizing instantly decarboxylate compounds in weed, making them immediately available for your body to absorb.

Some decarboxylation can occur over time when drying and curing cannabis, after harvesting a homegrow.

Oxygen can contribute to the decarboxylation process, so to slow it down, keep your weed or weed products in an air-tight container to maintain freshness and potency.

Decarboxylation needs to happen in all cannabis products in order to get high from them. Consuming edibles doesn’t involve heat, as with smoking a joint or hitting a vape pen, but the decarboxylation process still needs to occur to activate the weed in the edible before consumption.

When making edibles, buds are typically heated in an oven first to decarboxylate them, and then infused into a medium such as butter or oil. That infusion is then used to make edibles, such as brownies, cookies, gummies, and more.

Heating buds in an oven before infusion is necessary to activate the THC in the buds so it can be carried into the infusion, and then into the edible.

Read more of Leafly’s guide to edibles

Weed decarboxylation occurs between 200-245ºF. When making edibles, we recommend heating buds at 220ºF for 30-40 minutes.

Compared to smoking and vaping, decarboxylation for edibles is done at a lower temperature for a longer period of time to keep cannabinoids and terpenes intact when infused. Terpenes are volatile and will evaporate at high temperatures, potentially leaving undesirable flavors and aromas behind.

Heating cannabis in an oven above 300ºF will burn off valuable cannabinoids and terpenes, and the flower will not get you high when infused with butter, oil, or anything else.

According to a 2016 study , this chart shows how quickly THCA breaks down into THC, and CBDA into CBD, at different temperatures.

What happens if you decarboxylate too long?

Heating weed for too long, or at too high of a temperature, can burn off cannabinoids and terpenes, making your weed ineffective.

Should weed be ground before or after decarbing?

We recommend grinding weed before you put it in the oven to decarb. This will increase the surface area and create an even consistency, ensuring all your weed decarbs at the same time.

When decarboxylating cannabis in an oven, it’s important to remember that the temperature dial on an oven is more of an average temperature than an exact one.

Ovens can fluctuate by 20 degrees, so keep an eye on the cannabis. If it turns brown too quickly or smells like it’s burning, turn down the oven. Invest in an oven thermometer if you plan on cooking with cannabis regularly.

  • Baking sheet
  • Parchment paper or aluminum foil
  • Cannabis grinder (optional)
  • Set the oven temperature to 220ºF, with the oven rack in the middle position. Ovens are hotter at the top and cooler at the bottom, so heating in the middle will ensure ideal decarboxylation temperature.
  • Line the baking sheet with parchment paper or aluminum foil, and lightly break up or grind the cannabis onto it, but not too fine, to avoid burning.
  • Heat for 30-40 minutes, stirring at least once.
  • Let cool for 30 minutes at room temperature. The cannabis should look lightly toasted and golden brown.
  • When cool enough to handle, add the decarboxylated cannabis to butter, oil, or another base for an infusion, or carefully put it in a storage container for future use.

It is not recommended to decarb weed in a microwave because you can’t control the temperature. Decarbing weed is a low and slow process, and the dry heat of an oven is best for achieving this. A small toaster oven with a controllable temperature can be used as well.

Simple And Easy Guide On How To Make Cannabis Wax

how to make cannabis wax

Cannabis wax or dab wax is an opaque, soft oil with no transparency after being extracted from the marijuana plant. You will notice that the molecules will crystalize because of prior agitation. The varying molecular density cannot let light pass through, leaving non-transparent oil and more reliable. If you want to know how to make cannabis wax, below is a guide and process.

Cannabis Wax

The wax can differ from consistency, depending on the moisture, heat, and oil texture. The oil is the primary key for making wax, and liquid oils make budder wax. On the other hand, crumble and honeycomb wax use gooier and denser oils. Marijuana dabs of wax are very potent and concentrated, and if you are a beginner, many suggest you stern away from this. People like to vaporize, smoke, and ingest this product for a more potency feeling. You can use a vaporizer and water pipe for homemade cannabis wax.

What is Dabbing?

One of the most common methods to take to consume cannabis wax is dabbing. Generally, you use a glass pipe, blow torch, or a nail, a small metal plate connected to the pipe’s bang. In this way, it produces smoke and vapor of concentrated THC. Remember to consume wax in moderation because it can cause harmful side effects when taken too much.

How to Make Cannabis Wax at Home

Here is a simple and easy stem for making cannabis wax at home. This process uses rosin to apply heat and pressure. The sufficient marijuana amount to prepare is about 2 grams, and you will need a few tools like a razor blade, flat iron, oven mitten, and parchment or baking paper. As a substitute for your flat iron, you may use a hair straightener.

1. Pre-heat your flat iron to 280 and 330 degrees Fahrenheit and split your 2 grams of cannabis into four nuggets.

2. Flatten them and place your cannabis buds in the middle of your folded parchment paper.

3. Put on your mittens and press your flat iron in the cannabis nugget of for 3 seconds. Repeat the same process.

4. You should see resin stain on the paper and get them using your razor blade.

5. If there are leftover flowers, you can use them for your edibles.

If you do not have rosin or hash, you can use kief to make the cannabis wax. Here is the process:

1. Place your kief on the baking paper and roll the paper so that it became flat.

2. Put the parchment in the newspaper and damp the newspaper strips.

3. Put your iron in a low setting and heat press the rolled-up paper.

4. Heat and press the iron for few times and repeat the step until the newspaper becomes dry.

5. When the newspaper is dry, open the paper, and you will have new homemade rosin.

Pros and Cons of Dabbing

Dab is a highly concentrated marijuana product that has THC levels of about 60-90%. It is the perfect product for someone who likes very potent effects and will deliver immediate sensations. However, dabbing is an odorless method compared to other methods like smoking and vaping. If you like a discreet way to consume weed, use this method.

One of the incredible health benefits of consuming wax is that it does not alleviate lung damage than smoking and vaping. Although this is gentle than smoking, there is still no evidence showing that it is safer than other methods.

If you are using medical marijuana to treat some of your chronic pain, you can immediately dab the recommended strain. Doctors and experts only prescribe medical weed to consult first before using any form of cannabis.

Today, cannabis wax or dabbing is usually produced in a massive amount. When the oil used does not meet the correct standards, the wax can contain high butane levels. It is harmful to consume high levels of butane, especially to those who are allergic to it. Few reports inhaling butane hash oil can cause lung injury like lipid pneumonia.

Consuming wax comes with side effects. You might feel some adverse side effects like paranoia, rapid heartbeat, and unsettling tingling sensation. It usually occurs when you consume highly THC-concentrated cannabis. So, if you think you are prone to hallucinations and psychosis, better start with low doses.

Dabs, wax, edibles, and other concentrates can also cause cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome. Do not worry because the evidence is very little, and there is no definitive evidence until now. Also, dabbing is much pricier than other methods, and if you are on a budget, this can be out of your league. It is more expensive because you have to invest in a nail, blow torch, and dab rig. You will also need a vaporizer if you like to vaporize the oils so that properties will get activated.

There is a risk when your body already develops high THC tolerance. When your body gets accustomed to high levels, you will never go back to low doses because you already found relief in high concentration.

The Takeaway

People who take cannabis in a higher dosage must try cannabis wax or dabs. It acts faster than other methods, and the effects are very potent. It has both a balance of advantages and disadvantages, so it up to you. But, if you are looking for steps and an easy way to make them, above is a simple process to create one.

When you safety clean and test the homemade cannabis wax, you will discover many advantages, especially if you want powerful and onset effects. People with nausea and pain reported than cannabis wax immediately relieve the pain they feel. It can be hard to find a doctor who will prescribe you are dabbing on your first consultation as this has high THC levels compared to smoking and vaping. While not everyone is open to this kind of method, the cannabis wax has still gained popularity and makes many marijuana industries to push through different innovations. Even if dabbing or wax still experiences growing controversies, it still has so much more to offer to consumers and medical patients in the future.

Article Last Updated on January 6, 2023

If you’ve been using marijuana for a while, you probably have a favorite cannabis consumption method and a favorite place to smoke weed in . Whether you enjoy to vape cannabis concentrates, light the bong, or make some cannabis edibles , you’ll have to agree that the most common and most popular method of consuming weed is rolling a joint. After all, this simple and budget-friendly method of cannabis consumption only requires purchasing your favorite cannabis strain made up of the perfect amount of THC, CBD, and other cannabinoids and terpenes, some rolling papers, and you’re ready to light up.

But there comes a time in the life of every cannabis user when you run out of rolling papers and there’s nowhere to buy them or you’re just feeling lazy, so you’re bound to make do with whatever you have lying around the house to roll a joint with . Your mind goes to any type of paper and leftover recyclable materials that don’t involve you leaving the house, such as regular paper , gum wrappers, phone book paper, cans , and even tissue paper, which is the topic of this article. We’ll give you the answer to the question “Can you use tissue paper to roll a joint” as well as answer the most common questions related to smoking weed with everything but smoking papers, so read on.

Can You Actually Use Tissue Paper to Roll a Joint?

We all know that it’s best to roll your joint with rolling papers, but sometimes you just don’t have one on hand so you need to make do with alternatives. So, let’s give you a few alternatives starting with tissue paper.

Tissue paper is a soft, thin paper which is generally used for wrapping or protecting delicate articles. Since it’s pretty similar to rolling paper, some cannabis users wonder whether it’s possible to substitute the rolling papers with tissue paper when rolling a joint. It definitely is possible, but it can be a bit tricky. Since tissue paper is a bit more delicate than rolling papers, it may be harder for you to roll the joint. Read on to figure out the best way to roll a joint with tissue paper.

How to Use Tissue Paper to Roll a Joint?

As we’ve previously said, tissue paper is thinner than rolling papers, therefore it may burn a little differently. However, there are ways you can make the tissue paper work for you if you want to use it to make a joint, and we’ll give you the exact steps below. In general, the process isn’t that different from using regular rolling papers:

  • Take your tissue paper out to prepare it for rolling. Just make sure that it’s uncolored so it doesn’t contain dye.
  • Cut the tissue paper into squares sized 68 mm in length and 34 mm in width, which is the size of the standard rolling paper.
  • Use your grinder to grind the weed.
  • Add a crutch if you’re using one.
  • Shape your joint, pinch it between your fingers and start rolling from the crutch towards the end.
  • Pack the end of the joint and twist the top so it closes.
  • Your joint is ready for your next smoking sesh.

Even if your joint burns a bit faster, you’ll still get a decent smoke without having to go out and purchase rolling papers.

What Happens if You Smoke Paper?

While you may be tempted to use any type of paper as a substitute when you don’t have rolling papers on hand, smoking paper continuously can pose some serious health risks. Plain paper or recycled paper is generally made from wood pulp that can contain over 200 chemicals which are added while processing and manufacturing the paper.

Commonly used chemicals include chlorine, dolomite, DTPA, EDTA, FSA, guar gum, gypsum, hydrogen peroxide, sodium dithionite, chlorine dioxide, ozone, and many more. When burning paper, the toxic chemicals that are often released include nitrogen oxides, sulfur dioxide, volatile organic chemicals (VOCs), and polycyclic organic matter (POMs), which go directly into your lungs if you smoke it.

Can You Die if You Smoke Paper?

As we’ve mentioned above, burning normal paper releases a number of chemicals which are harmful to your body. Paper can also be treated with additional chemicals or ink which make it much more hazardous than smoking untreated paper. It’s also difficult to know what exactly went into the paper during the manufacturing process, but even if a piece of paper is completely free of both chemicals and ink, smoking still results in smoke inhalation which can scar your lungs over time and cause irritation.

While a one-time smoking session where your joint is rolled with paper won’t cause immediate health problems, smoking papers over a longer period of time may damage your lungs and cause you serious side effects. While there are no specific studies related to smoking paper on whether death is one of the outcomes of smoking paper long-term, it’s safe to say that if you start rolling your joints in paper rather than rolling paper specifically made for joints, you will cause a significant amount of damage to your lungs.

Other Alternatives to Rolling Papers

Because a lot of cannabis users get very creative when they don’t have smoking papers or zig zag papers (hemp paper) on hand, they often make DIY marijuana vessels to smoke their weed with. Whether you’re making a spliff (joint that also contains tobacco along with weed), or you’re making a regular joint, you can use the following things:

  • Corn husks. Sun-dried corn husks are a great option if you want to use an alternative method to roll your weed. They’re commonly used in Jamaica as a way to smoke weed, so if you can find them where you live, give them a try.
  • Rose petals. Another alternative to rolling paper are rose petals. To use them, heat three in a pan for three seconds, connect them, and use them as you would rolling papers.
  • Apple pipes. Making a pipe at home has never been easier if you decide to make an apple pipe. To make it, just drill a hole from the top of the apple and drill one on the side that connects to the central hole. Line the top hole with aluminum foil, place the weed inside, and light it. Start smoking from the side hole and you’ll also experience the apple pie flavor as you’re inhaling.
  • Hot knives. If you don’t want to DIY anything, this is one of the easiest methods of smoking marijuana. You just need to place the top of your steel knives over a heated hot plate, wait for them to warm up, place the weed on one knife and squeeze it with the other. You’ll notice cannabis smoke coming out of your weed, which means it’s time to start inhaling.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you roll a blunt with printer paper.

Printer paper isn’t intended to be used instead of cigarette paper or rolling papers since it contains toxic chemicals as ingredients during the manufacturing process. It’s also a thicker paper with a high cellulose content which means you’ll be inhaling much more smoke than if you’d use the standard rolling paper. It’s essential to use the thinnest paper possible when making joints, so printer paper doesn’t fit this requirement.

Can I Use Toilet Paper as Rolling Paper?

While you can’t use the actual toilet paper or paper towels for rolling a joint, you can use the toilet paper roll and make a pipe out of it. Commonly known as the steamroller, your DIY cardboard tube pipe can be made in just a few single steps. First, you’ll need to poke a hole on the side of the paper where you’ll place a makeshift bowl from tin foil (aluminum foil) and you can add the weed on top. Next, you’ll need to place the carb hole on the other side of the roll. Finally, you can light it and enjoy your favorite strain.

Can Smoking Notebook Paper Harm You?

This is another method that a lot of cannabis users try, though it isn’t recommended. Firstly, because smoking paper may result in you inhaling harmful chemicals. Also, if the paper you’re smoking is short, the heat from it may scar your throat. And lastly, notebook paper burns much faster than rolling paper, so your joint may burn out before you’ve inhaled all of the cannabinoids and terpenes.

Can You Use Parchment Paper as Rolling Paper?

Parchment paper is the nonstick paper that you use when baking something in your oven. Because silicone is applied to most parchment paper, it might not be a good idea to use it instead of rolling paper. Furthermore, because parchment paper is designed to be nonstick, once you roll the joint, you won’t be able to seal the seam as you’ll need an adhesive. Your best option is to avoid making this substitution.

What Is Rosin: The Ultimate Guide For Cannabis Enthusiasts

UP-close photo of rosin being held with tweezers

If you’re searching for a concentrated cannabis product that doesn’t come with a side of solvents or other potentially harmful chemicals, look no further than rosin.

But what is rosin? Why is it so great? And how can you use once you get your hands on some?

In this ultimate guide for cannabis enthusiasts, the all-things-cannabis experts at Honest Marijuana  answer those questions and tell you everything you need to know about this excellent extract.

What Is Rosin?

UP-close photo of rosin against a black background

Outside of cannabis culture, rosin is a solid form of resin — think pine sap — used in a wide variety of athletic, musical, and industrial endeavors.

You can use this rosin for everything from adding grip to a violin bow to reducing slippage while dancing to making ink and soap.

From the canna-enthusiast’s perspective, rosin is the oil/resin of the trichomes  that cover the surface of the marijuana plant.

Through a simple process we’ll describe later, you can “squeeze” this oil out of the bud and let it harden to produce rosin of your own.

Incidentally, rosin is lumped together with wax , shatter , and oil  under the umbrella terms concentrate  or extract .

Why Is Rosin So Great?

Rosin in a clear dish on a white table

One of the main reasons rosin is in demand these days is that producers can extract it from the plant   without solvents  (e.g., butane, propane, carbon dioxide, alcohol).

That means that rosin will never  contain any harmful chemicals — even down to a single part per million — unless they were on the bud  to begin with (which they shouldn’t be).

A second reason rosin is so great is that it’s relatively easy to produce. All you need is heat and pressure to produce your own rosin (we’ll show you a super simple method toward the end of this article).

Enterprising cannabis enthusiasts have even come up with professional-grade products (a.k.a. weed presses) that use hydraulic or pneumatic pressure to squeeze every last drop of rosin from the pot plant .

A third benefit of rosin is that it’s both pure and  potent. When you apply heat and pressure to the marijuana buds, the rosin separates from the plant matter (which has a tendency to dilute the potency of the recreational or medical benefits you hope to achieve).

To help you understand this last point a bit better, let’s compare rosin to other extracts.

How Does Rosin Compare To Other Extracts?

HempTheory Hemp Extract bottle

When it comes to potency, rosin is on par with other extracts like tincture , live resin , THC oil , CBD oil , and hemp oil . So if you’re looking for a heady experience from just a small amount of product, rosin is a good choice.

Unlike many of the other concentrates that you can make in your kitchen or buy at your local head shop, rosin is 100-percent dependent on the quality of the starting material you use.

So if you start with a high-THC  or high-CBD  strain, you’re going to wind up with a highly concentrated rosin. If, on the other hand, you start with a low-THC or low-CBD strain, you’re going to wind up with less potent rosin.

With rosin, there’s no way to mask or compensate for the impurities within the starting material. What you see is what you get.

If a grower runs into problems with their plants (e.g., mildew , mold , bud rot , etc.), they can cover up these issues by using butane extraction, CO2 extraction , or some other hydrocarbon method.

For rosin, there is no workaround — no way to cover up impurities. Bad buds produce bad rosin. So, as they say in the industry, “Quality in equals quality out.”

Fortunately, that logic works both ways. If you know that the rosin is of good quality, you know that the buds it came from were of good quality also.

How To Use Rosin

Hand holding a vape pen with smoke all around against black background

Because rosin will usually come in solid or waxy form, your best bet for consuming it is a dab rig  or vaporizer .

With a dab rig that relies on an open flame or a vaporizer that allows for higher temperatures , you’ll get a bigger and thicker smoke that will have an almost immediate and strong effect.

If you opt instead to adjust your vaporizer down to relatively low temperatures, you’ll get a fuller terpene and cannabinoid  profile.

These low temperatures vaporize the rosins enough so that you can inhale  them while preserving the psychoactive and medicinal compounds, such as:

Lower temperatures also produce a thinner, cooler smoke that won’t irritate your throat and lungs the way the smoke from high temperatures does.

Finally, vaporizing your rosin at lower temperatures will delay the effects  slightly. It’s not going to take an hour or more like it would with edibles , but it won’t be the immediate rush like it would be if you dabbed or vaped at high temps.

It’s your choice.

Tips For Buying The Best Rosin

Two gloved hands holding rosin

Most of the tips we have for buying the best rosin are the same as those for buying other concentrates (or even dried bud ).

Here’s what to look for.

Quality rosin is a light amber or tan color.

If the rosin is green, that means that some plant matter and/or chlorophyll is still present. That will decrease the potency and quality of the final product. Don’t buy.

If the rosin is dark, it just means that the original buds were “old” when the producers extracted the rosin. Or, instead of saying “old,” maybe “aged” would be the better term. Dark rosin isn’t necessarily low-quality rosin.

If you can’t find the light-amber or tan rosin, you can still get a good product with the darker rosin.

Quality rosin should smell like the bud it came from.

So if it came from a Sour Diesel  strain, you should smell a pungent, skunky aroma. If it came from a Thin Mint Girl Scout Cookies  strain, you should smell mint and chocolate.

If the rosin smells like grass, hay, or even nothing at all, skip it.

3) Appearance

Good rosin should look clean. It shouldn’t have any plant matter (specks or hairs) floating around inside it. Fortunately, this is rare in commercially produced products.

Good rosin should also be translucent (i.e., semitransparent) and have a consistent hue (that light amber or tan color) throughout.

Can You Make Your Own Rosin?

Rosin being made with a burner

We never tire of hearing someone ask this question because, yes, you can make your own rosin.

We love seeing their joy when they discover just how easy it is to make their own rosin with nothing more than a few household items.

Here’s how to do it.

  • Flat iron (one with a digital temperature display works best)
  • Parchment paper
  • Your favorite strain of dried bud
  • Pot holder (Ha! See what we did there?) or towel
  • Razorblade or dab tool
  • Scale (optional)
  • Using the scale, measure out 2 grams of bud (or just eyeball it if you don’t have a scale).
  • Break that bud into 4 pieces (roughly a ½ gram each).
  • Heat flat iron to between 300℉ and 330℉.
  • Tear off a 12-inch piece of parchment paper and fold it in half.
  • Place ½ gram of bud between the parchment paper.
  • When it’s hot enough, place parchment paper in flat iron.
  • Press flat iron together hard for 3 seconds (pot holder or towel comes in handy here so you don’t burn yourself).
  • Carefully remove parchment paper.
  • You’ll see a resin stain surrounding the bud.
  • Move the bud to another spot and press again for 3 seconds.
  • Move the bud one more time (if there’s room) and press for another 3 seconds.
  • Remove parchment paper and collect the rosin with the razor blade or dab tool.

See how easy that was!

We could probably even reduce the number of steps so it doesn’t seem so daunting, but we want to be thorough and make sure you understand.

No complicated chemistry or long hours hovering over a burner . Just simple, straight-forward rosin extraction. You probably have all the stuff you’ll need lying around the house already anyway.

Buy A High-Quality Rosin Before You DIY

Sure, technically, you could make your very own rosin with the method we described above, just like you could technically build your own car.

But why not leave it to the professionals? They’ve got the experience and the know-how to do it right. Plus, you’ll get a better-quality, safer extract.

What’s more, the finished product will be more concentrated than the stuff you get through DIY methods, so just a little bit will go a lot further.

The method mentioned above will work in a pinch when your local dispensary is closed and you just have to have a taste right away. But your best bet is to purchase your rosin from a professional.

That way, you know you’re getting a concentrate  with no harsh chemicals hiding inside. Just a tasty, highly refined rosin that you can dab, vaporize , or enjoy in a number of other ways.

The Parchment Paper Trick To Clean Hard Water Stains

T here are several reasons why a roll of parchment paper is essential in any kitchen. It can keep even the stickiest of foods from clinging to baking pans in the oven and prevent dough from spreading too thin under heat. Parchment paper can also promote more even baking while providing a layer of protection for any greasy food drippings that may otherwise dirty up your oven.

As vital as it is for cooking and baking though, there's more uses for parchment paper. Don't believe it? Just ask TikTok. According to cleaning hacks surfacing on the social media platform, parchment paper can be used to remove stains left by hard water on faucets and kitchen sinks. Who would've thought the waxy paper could have such versatility?

Hard water stains are essentially deposits of minerals left behind by hard water as it dries and evaporates. These stains are awfully stubborn and tend to require considerable elbow grease along with heavy-duty cleaning solutions to rid. Or, as TikTokers claim, just some parchment paper.

To try this hack, crunch up a sheet of parchment paper, rub it all over the mineral deposits, and watch the hard water stains come right off. In some cases, it's been seen to wipe away months' worth of hard water stains in mere seconds without requiring much physical effort.

Other Ways To Get Rid Of Hard Water Stains

Although TikTokers vouch for the effectiveness of parchment paper, it's not the only trick that can get rid of the foggy stains left by hard water on kitchen sinks and faucets, or even on glass cups, cutlery, and stainless steel appliances. Baking soda and vinegar have long been used as more than just cooking ingredients — they are also trusty supplies used to keep a kitchen clean. The combination of the two can cut through any stains left by dried-up mineral deposits and make things sparkle, too.

You could either make a paste by mixing equal parts of baking soda and water or whip up a liquid solution with equal ratios of vinegar and water. Apply either one of these two DIY cleaners on the stains, give them a few minutes to work their magic, and then gently scrub the solutions off.

If the hard water stains seem particularly persistent, you could always use both the baking soda paste and the vinegar water solution for a one-two punch. Apply the paste on the stain and spray it with vinegar water until the baking soda fizzes and foams up. Wipe it off and then cover the stained area with a towel soaked in vinegar for a few minutes before rinsing it down with water. Hydrogen peroxide mixed with cream of tartar also makes a powerful cleaning paste, but if you happen to be in a pinch, even just a fluoride toothpaste can get the job done.

More Unexpected Ways To Clean A Kitchen

Beyond just parchment paper, you may be surprised to find that there are other unique cleaning supplies lying in plain sight all over your pantry. Take aluminum foil, for example: When squished into a ball, foil doubles up as an abrasive scrubber that can get rid of grease build-ups on ovens, grills, stoves, pans — you name it!

A halved lemon can be dipped into salt and used as a sponge to clean all that food residue hiding between the fissures of a wooden chopping board, and its juice combined with salt will take care of rusty kitchen knives. Salt too can do wonders: Mix it with dish soap to get rid of mucky coffee stains lining your mugs or mix it with ketchup to make copper utensils sparkle.

If you need to clean the blades of your coffee grinder, simply pulverize a few grains of rice in it. Looking for something to absorb liquid spills? A slice of spongey bread is all you need. And if you want to give your stainless steel sink a deeper clean after getting rid of those pesky hard water stains, dry flour will give it a good polish, proving there are so many creative ways to a clean kitchen!
