Educational Value of Traveling

Introduction

It is possible to learn new things if you travel to different parts of your own country and different parts of the world. It does take a certain openness to learning and an openness to new things in order to fully take advantage of this. Still, you are able to learn new things if you travel.

You may broaden your taste and your pallet if you travel around more. You get a better idea of what different flavors and textures are out there for you. It makes it easier to try new foods when you get home, and you may be able to make your diet more diverse as a result, which will probably lead to better health.

Example or anecdote

The different foods in America are currently unappreciated. Like most western countries, there is a fair amount of choice. Texas BBQ in one town may be as delicious as Texas Chinese food in another. The original countries where the food started may serve a completely different dish to how it is interpreted by the western country.

The British have had the recipe for Indian curry for a very long time, as they used to own India. That is why there are numerous British curries that neither a native Indian nor American knows about. Similarly, it is possible for a native British person or Indian person to visit America and eat a curry recipe that they have never even heard of.

It is possible to learn a little bit of humility and gratitude at your own life. Traveling around the world and seeing people in different states of wealth and poverty is enough to make a person appreciate their life a little more.

In Britain, they only have their bins (known as wheelie bins) collected once per fortnight. To a lot of Americans this is harrowing, as they have their bins emptied once per week. Push this idea a little further by traveling to places in Africa, and you start to appreciate how little it matters.

An African person may be found crying on the ground because his home has been destroyed, his wife or children butchered, his money stolen, his religion forcibly suppressed, or because he has to work for pennies per day. He will not be found crying on the ground because the British now have to have their bins emptied once per fortnight.

It is possible to learn quite a bit if you go to different countries and experience things that are outside of your comfort zone or outside of your normal experiences. What you learn may be something as simple as a new taste which then broadens your diet. Or, it may be a little bit of humility that helps you realize what you have and why you are so lucky. The great thing about traveling is also that you cannot be sure what you will learn until you get there. You may find out that the mannerisms of a certain people are simply cultural and are not the result of rudeness.

The Educational Benefits of Travel

Yasmine El Baggari

Master’s student Yasmine El Baggari has been to all 50 states. And she hasn’t just “been” to them in a casual, check-off-the-box way. She has been to them, for extended trips, staying in the homes of more than 250 families, riding countless Greyhound buses, and fostering thousands of genuine connections across cultures.

Originally from Morocco, El Baggari decided that she wanted to travel the United States by bus when she was 17, starting from Kansas where she was living while taking part in the Kennedy-Lugar Youth Exchange — a state-department exchange program that seeks to dismantle stereotypes about Morocco, Africa, and the Middle East in the United States. “I told myself, if I can break down stereotypes in Kansas, I can do it in all 50 states,’’ says El Baggari. She continued her travels across the U.S. through college and beyond, visiting her final state — Alaska — in 2019.

Her commitment to the interpersonal and cross-cultural benefits of travel only grew from there, with additional visits to 50 countries. Six years ago, El Baggari founded Voyaj , an international exchange company that seeks to break down cultural stereotypes and foster a sense of global interconnectedness through travel experiences. Voyaj connects people of all ages with others in their destination country who share their interests and values, “in order to have a deeper cultural experience through their lens,” El Baggari explains.

The program, currently being piloted with select communities, has facilitated journeys for its clients to more than 40 countries, including France, Morocco, and the United States. Hosts open their homes to travelers, who then open their hearts and minds to embrace new cultures. The Voyaj process is planned to work through the Voyaj website, where travelers will be able to sign-up, arrange homestays, and share stories about their journeys.

El Baggari’s work at Voyaj, which is currently a venture at the Harvard iLab , is grounded in the belief that when humans from different backgrounds form authentic connections, our increased global understanding can help lead to a more peaceful world. Learning more about how the human mind works while at the Ed School has given her insight into the factors at play when two strangers sit down and form a deep bond, despite their different social contexts — factors she learned anecdotally from her travel experiences. This developmental knowledge, El Baggari believes, will help her understand cross-cultural connections, even when stereotypes, walls, and borders stand in the way.

“It is so important to realize that we aren’t really that different, and that we can embrace any perceived or real differences and identify our commonalities,” she explains.

When COVID-19 restricted travel, Voyaj created remote opportunities for connection, facilitating online experiences for people around the globe. While these gatherings lack the allure of an international, in-person experience, they have addressed some of the social ills exacerbated by the pandemic like loneliness and isolation. “That’s one of the positive sides of COVID: More communities are looking to connect and to do so more deeply,” says El Baggari. “Because of the isolation, people are eager to meet. These virtual experiences have proven meaningful.”

El Baggari expects the evolution of Voyaj to continue — even as she concurrently focuses on her ultimate travel goal: becoming an astronaut through Space For Humanity’s sponsored citizen astronaut mission. With the support of her global team, she is running pilots for the upcoming Voyaj app, as well working to form partnerships with other exchange and travel organizations in the United States, New Zealand, Morocco, and elsewhere.

El Baggari believes that travel is about more than place. It is about people: the people you see, the people you meet, and the people who change you along the way. “I believe we have the opportunity to learn at every moment from every encounter,” says El Baggari. “We’re here, and alive! We’ve got to connect, to open and share our cultures, and realize who we truly are.”

Short Essay on Travel as Part of Education in 100 Words

Travelling is one of the most beautiful hobbies in our lives. There is no one who does not want to travel. Travelling helps us to see a lot, to know a lot, and also to gain a lot of happy moments. As we travel, we get to learn many things. So travelling is necessary for our education as well. Often our educational institutions take us out for trips.

These trips are short and are used for teaching the pupils. The teachers guide the students in this excursion. Such travellings contain both fun and learning. As part of learning, travel becomes necessary and it gives us better knowledge than books.

Short Essay on Travel as Part of Education in 200 Words

Travelling plays an important role in education. We read a lot of books to know more and more. But if we go travelling, then the knowledge gets easier. Many people have their hobby as travelling to different places. They spend lots of money and visit different parts of their country.

They often go on foreign trips. But all these are for fun and leisure. There is little to learn from vacations that are only for pleasure. When a trip is made to learn something and also to enjoy the beauty of that place, then travelling becomes important.

In the olden days, people used to walk long distances, from one country to another. It took lots of days. On their way, they learned about that place, its people, and its culture. These journeys are written down in history books. At present, we have many vehicles to travel. It has made our journeys easy. From that time, travel has become important for education.

Many institutes organize trips to teach their students better. Only reading books is not enough. Taking a journey and understanding that place is far more beautiful. People become smarter as they travel. They are strong, know more than others, and are wiser.

Short Essay on Travel as Part of Education in 400 Words

When we think of learning, we always think of books to be the most important. Books give us knowledge. We learn and know a lot from books. But just by reading, we often do not understand everything. For that, we need to travel. Travelling to different places makes us happy. It helps in our education. In fact, it is an important part of our education. For better learning, we cannot separate learning and education. To be well aware of facts and situations, travelling is a must.

Many people travel because they want to have fun. These trips are vacations. They are only meant for fun and do not need anything to learn. It is just going from one place to another and enjoying that beauty. Travelling for leisure gives happiness and good memories. But it does not teach us anything. Travelling for learning becomes very important. We see many things, get to know much more than the books, and also enjoy the beauty of nature, when we travel to learn.

In ancient days, people used to travel long distances. It was done by walking. They were priests and travelled from one country to another. It took a lot of time to move to several places. But it was beautiful. Those people arrived in several lands and connected to many people. They learned their language, culture, and habits.

These travellers became one with one the country and people they met and learned many new things. All these are written in books of history. But at present, we do not need to walk long distances. We have lots of transport facilities and so it’s easier to take long journeys. It takes little time as well. So now it is much easier to travel and learn from it.

Travelling is an important part of education Many institutes take their students out for field trips. It is very helpful for the students because they get practical knowledge. They can understand the things that have been taught in their textbooks. So it becomes very easy for the students to apply that knowledge. Also the idea to do something different increases. From trips, the students learn anew and can create things on their own.

Educational trips help them to create and imagine better. Without travelling, education remains incomplete. They cannot enjoy their studies properly if travelling does not take place. Also travelling to new places helps in removing lack of knowledge. Many schools and colleges arrange travelling to historical places. It makes students happy and they get to learn a lot. So it is important that travel as part of education is applied everywhere.

Essay on Value of Travelling

December 14, 2017 by Study Mentor Leave a Comment

According to Cambridge University, travelling means that “the activity of making journeys” In contemporary     world, travelling is not only a hobby or a luxury, but it has become a necessity as well. Travelling is an activity which enriches a person’s knowledge and her personality.

Travelling not only fulfills our desire to seek adventure and explore new worlds, but also gives us experience and practical knowledge that reading or studying alone cannot.

Throughout the centuries, human have travelled for many reasons. Some travel for sight- seeing and refreshment, some travel to seek the thrill of adventure and discover and conquer the unknown and the unexplored. Some travel to places that are far and wide to seek knowledge and experience.

Others travel to seek better prospects for their future, to trade and prosper. Whatever the reason might be, one fact is evident. To change one’s life and fate, travelling becomes important.

Many travel for the pursuit of knowledge. Educational hubs attract the seekers of wisdom from lands that are far away. In ancient times, India was one such centre of learning. There were various schools of thought that resulted in many debates and discussions in ancient India.

Many wise men such as Aryabhata, Kautilya, Manu, etc. lived in India and contributed to India’s popularity as a place of not only prosperity but also scholarly learning. Scholars and travellers from all over the world travelled to India in pursuit of the wealth of knowledge. They wanted to understand the mystery that was India. Such was the allure of India.

These travellers who came to India wrote many books and memoirs containing the accounts of their travel. They wrote extensively about their experiences in India. One such traveller was the Italian merchant Marco Polo. He was extremely impressed by India and her charms and wrote about his encounter with the country in his writings.

These writings of Marco Polo later inspired the Europeans to find the Indies. They were very fascinated with the country that Marco Polo was so impressed with. I

t is in pursuit of India, that European traveller Columbus accidentally discovered the sea route to the Americas. Later, Portuguese traveller Vasco de Gama discovered the sea route to the prosperous land of India. The discovery of these two routes changed the fate of the world forever.

Such is the importance of travelling. Through travelling, people came to know about new lands and cultures which they wrote about. Their writings later inspired many people to travel to these places in hopes of better prospects.

Through this, they amassed great wealth both in terms of knowledge and material possessions. Europeans were quick to understand the importance of travelling. They travelled and explored the world and gained knowledge. This knowledge helped them conquer the world. At a point of time, European power England had conquered more than half the world.

Travelling not only contributed in trade, spreading of knowledge and conquests, it was crucial in other areas as well. Travelling was also a key contributory factor in the spread of religion. Buddhism was born in India. Today,

Buddhism has become one of the most practiced religions in the world and is practiced on a larger scale outside than in India! This is all due to travelling.

The great Emperor Ashoka sent people far and wide to spread Buddhism. The same is true with Christianity. Christian priests travelled to different parts of the world to spread Christianity as they considered it the mandate of God.

Thus, travelling helped in the spread of knowledge, religion, goods, information, etc. Work of different philosophers in the areas of mathematics, science, philosophy, etc., were translated and made available in different parts of the world through travelling. Thus it would be not wrong to say that travelling became a crucial factor that contributed to prosperity of a nation.

Travelling is also a recreational activity which satisfies a person’s thrill to seek new adventures and her curiosity about the world. There are many wonders in this world, both natural and man- made that attract travellers that want to have a glimpse of its beauty.

Many tourists from all over the world travel to visit the monuments that stand tall as a witness to the history of human- kind. Others travel to climb the ever-growing Mount Everest, to see the beauty of the Niagara Falls, and other wonders of nature.

Travelling thus gives people a breath of fresh air. Life nowadays is hectic. People make time from their busy schedules to get away from the troubles of their life and take a break through travelling.

When they return to their lives, they not only have new memories that will be there with them for all their lives, but they can also return with fresh minds, to face life with a refreshed attitude. Thus, travelling can even be therapeutic.

Travelling has great educational value. People not only learn about various subjects such as science, arts, etc., they also learn about life itself. A student may read extensively about the Taj Mahal and its history but he/she will not be able to fully understand and comprehend its beauty but through travelling they will appreciate it more.

Travelling also enhances the personality of an individual. Through travelling, we encounter new cultures, new places, new traditions, etc. We meet and interact with people that lead a different life than ours. These people often teach us values and things that we cannot learn through books.

Life cannot be learnt through books alone. Practical knowledge teaches us how to deal with our problems. When we meet with new situations and new people we learn things that we did not before. Through travelling we also create memories that stay with us for a lifetime. In the end, it is only the happy memories that matter, does it not?

Travelling forms an important part of our lives. Lord Rama had to travel to confront Emperor Ravana and save Goddess Sita. Along the way, he met the mighty Hanuman who helped him defeat his enemy. Throughout his journey, he gained allies who helped him throughout his travels.

Alexander the Great travelled throughout the world with his army to raid and to conquer different parts of the world. Before starting his movements that shook India, Mahatma Gandhi travelled extensively throughout India to know the conditions of the poor. Such is the importance of traveling.

In our daily lives, we travel for various reasons. With the advent of time, travelling has become simpler and more convenient. Because of this, the world has become more integrated. There are very few places in the world that are completely isolated. Perhaps there are none.

Travelling has thus brought us closer together. We all have become global citizens. No area is too far now. All cultures are independent yet closer together. When we travel, we come to understand the ways of lives of the people that lead a different life from ours.

Through travelling, we come to sympathies and empathize with them. When a person who lives in the city travels to a village, she comes to understand the ways of life in a village. She understands the hardships, yet the strength that a person living in a village has. Thus, travelling brings people of different spheres of life closer together.

British essayist T. S. Elliot said that it is not the destination that matters, it is the journey. Perhaps he was right. Sometimes we get so invested in the goal that we do not stop to think what we have earned along the way. Travelling, perhaps is a way of life in itself.

Travelling is not only an educational experience that broadens our knowledge and understanding, but it also allows us to meet people from different backgrounds and discover historically significant places. Educational institutions frequently arrange trips to enhance students' learning, especially in Western societies where young individuals exhibit a strong passion for travel. Furthermore, travelling brings immense joy and provides a much-needed respite from monotonous routines, helping alleviate our worries.

Traveling to unfamiliar places allows for connecting with distant loved ones and forming new relationships. It also provides insights into diverse cultural practices, ways of life, and the opportunity to explore various regional cuisines. While travel literature can provide knowledge about foreign cultures, personally visiting these places offers a more intimate and enduring understanding.

Travel offers the opportunity to visit histo

rical places like Agra, Jaipur, Jhansi, Hyderabad, Nalanda, and Mysore. It also allows us to explore sites of religious importance such as Hardwar, Ujjain, Varanasi, Allahabad,Ajmer, Amritsar,Vaishno Devi,Badrinath,Kedarnath, and Rameshwaram. Furthermore, travelling enables us to escape to hill resorts like Srinagar,Kulu ,Manali,Dalhousie,Nainital,Darjeeling, and otacamundto avoid the intense heat of the plains. Bacon believed that "traveling in youth is a part of education and in old age is a part of experience." Undoubtedly, both young boys and girls greatly benefit from travelling.

Travelling offers the chance to gain knowledge about local customs, language, culture, tradition, and more. Additionally, it facilitates interaction with others and forming social connections. Through this process, we are able to move beyond limited considerations of caste, colour, and creed and develop a broader understanding of the world. Those who seldom travel remain confined by their own thoughts and prejudices like a fro

trapped in a well. Travelling broadens our perspective and nurtures tolerance. Furthermore, it plays a crucial role in promoting national integration by bringing together individuals from diverse backgrounds of caste, culture, language, and attire.

Travelling can be utilized to tackle social issues in our country, like casteism and communalism. It acts as a unifying force by uniting individuals from different races, religions, communities, and regions. This provides them with an opportunity to interact and gain a deeper understanding of one another. Moreover, it promotes a sense of camaraderie among people. Exploring foreign countries not only fosters global unity but also brings joy and enhances our experiences. By visiting other nations, we acquire knowledge about their progress and development while becoming acquainted with their culture and civilization.

The key to achieving universal peace and progress lies in eliminating all obstacles to unrestricted travel. The lack of communication is the fundamental cause of misunderstandings and conflicts between different countries. Therefore, travelling is an exceptional opportunity providing us with first-hand knowledge about our own country as well as foreign countries. It fosters the ideology of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” which means that the entire world is one family. Moreover, it enhances our ability to observe and socialize, while simultaneously training our mind and spirit. Hence, the hobby of travelling is a valuable asset for young individuals.

Essay on “Educational Value of Travelling” English Essay, Paragraph, Speech for Class 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 12 for College and Competitive Exams.

Educational value of travelling.

The famous adage-home keeping youths have homely wits’ is true for all those people who do not wish to travel. Traveling forms a part of our education. The information that we receive through books in schools and colleges remains incomplete if it is not supplemented by our own experience. This experience can only be gained through traveling. Travelling provides us with a piece of first-hand information. What use is the study of Mughal architecture if it is not supplemented by an actual visit to the famous buildings created during the Mughal period? Travelling confers upon us numerous benefits. It presents to us different sights and sounds of nature and mankind. It unfolds for us various cultures and civilizations A person also acquires the habit of adaptability by traveling. Travelling enables us to exchange our views with people of other countries and places and to study their habits and character. Had there been no traveling mankind would not have been able to take giant strides in the fields of astronomy, geometry, medicine, mathematics, and agriculture. Traveling is a great educative experience. It broadens our outlook and makes us more sensitive. However, this is true only for those people who travel with their eyes open and their senses alert.

  • Reading time: 4 mins read

We travel for business purposes or for sightseeing or for many other reasons. But very few people in our country travel to acquire knowledge. Actually traveling is the best and most effective way of gaining knowledge. Travelling gives us an opportunity of experiencing the world.

We get thoroughly acquainted with the culture, language, history , and traditions of different people. What we see and experience lingers in our mind for a much longer duration than studying the same thing in books . Connecting with different people and absorbing different cultures naturally widens our mindset and thinking pattern.

Travelling broadens our outlook. It develops in us a correct sense of value. It gives us practical knowledge of trade and commerce. It brings us closer to nature. It plays a very crucial role in shaping one’s personality and contributes greatly to our growth. Travelling requires lots of courage and the ability to adjust. Dealing with different people naturally develops our communication skills.

A traveler learns to take quick decisions, be practical and take risks. A well-traveled person is much more informed, interesting, and wiser. It is essential that students should get every chance to travel. To take full advantage of traveling we must have eyes to see, ears to listen, and a strong desire to learn.

Thus, I believe that traveling really is a very good means of gaining knowledge. Somebody has rightly said that traveling at a young age is a part of education and in the elder, it is a part of the experience.
