Why We Need to Change

It’s Your Future – What Are You Going To Do About It?

One of the biggest problems we face today is the environmental damage caused by large automobiles

Traffic congestion.

Rapidly depleting non-renewable natural resources.

Increased air pollution and production of greenhouse gasses.

Accelerating climate change.

Clearly, this 20th century transportation model is no longer sustainable.

SARIT: Leading the Micro-Mobility Revolution

We need to change. There is a better way!

The SARIT is the beginning of a new movement that we are calling the Micro-Mobility Revolution! “Micro-Mobility” refers to a new class of small electric vehicle that are small in size, yet big in capability and flexibility – able to go places and do things that standard vehicles cannot, all while producing zero emissions. SARIT could dramatically reduce traffic congestion, cut the amount of time it takes to travel to and from work, and improve air quality. Welcome to the future of urban automotive transportation!

2023-06-17-stronach-scholarship

Students are always looking to the future, and these visions for the world we want to live in tomorrow were brought together last week by Magna founder Frank Stronach recently who asked university students from across the country what they would do if they were elected Canada’s next Prime Minister.

The SARIT Scholarship Program, named after Stronach’s micro-mobility vehicle produced in the area, aimed to find “the best and most innovative solutions on how we can improve the economy while also improving the environment.”

More than 20 of the essay contest’s finalists were welcomed to Stronach’s Frank’s Organic Restaurant at First Commerce Drive and Wellington Street East on Friday for an afternoon of presentations and speeches from the finalists, a dinner, and, in the end, presentations of cheques for $25,000 for the third-place finisher, $50,000 for second, and $100,000 for the grand-prize winner.

Rachelle Lambert of the Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières came away with third-prize for her essay and presentation on further funding and encouragement of sustainable energy, micromobility, and enabling communities to pursue sustainable initiatives.

Second place was shared by Liam Adamson of Mount Royal University in Alberta with a presentation on Indigenous knowledge and the harmony it fosters between humans and the environment, and by Matrine Rose of the University of Saskatchewan, who presented on the power of harnessing mineral resources to create more batteries for electric vehicles.

Bringing home the top prize was Robert Williamson of the University of Calgary, who focused on the Government’s ability to foster innovation as a way to strike the right balance between the economy and the environment.

“Government policy plays a critical role in determining how our nation responds to environmental threats,” said Williamson in his presentation. “It also determines how our economy performs overall, but often the balance [falls] on one side and we sacrifice one for the other. I believe we can strike a balance between the economy and the environment, and the key to do so lies in the powerful tool of innovation. To achieve any environmental goals, you must either change the technology we use or change how people live their lives, which is easier said than done. The best mechanism to accomplish these asks is through innovation. Economically, innovation is also undoubtedly a key driver in economic growth and prosperity.

“So, if I were the Prime Minister, it would be my goal to maximize innovation by implementing policies that do so and in the process sustainability and economic benefits will also be maximized. Some examples: first I would increase funding to research and development across both private and public sectors. I would also focus on special investments for green tech and sustainable process research. This would spark a wave of innovation in Canada that benefits both the economy and the environment. It would next be my goal to increase participation in the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) fields by allocating resources to educational institutions as well as incentivizing and bringing in more skilled immigrants to Canada to join our talent pool of innovators.”

A focus on STEM fields, “breeds new generations of problem-solvers to create new solutions.

“As these solutions come to fruition, new goods and services are created, which increases productivity in our society. Higher productivity means greater output with the same amounts of input, which is essential to sustainable development,” he said. “If I were the Prime Minister of Canada, it would be my goal to maximize innovation and as a consequence both the economy and the environment are enhanced because to solve a problem you have to look at it from the next level… and this is exactly what innovation does.”

Stronach said he feels it’s “important to interface with students” to hear how they would address important questions.

“Our contestants all wrote essays and were fairly close when we compared notes separately,” he said of the judging process. “Robert spoke without notes, he was relaxed, and I think he had a good presentation.”

Williams said he was more nervous waiting for the results than he was making the speech itself.

“This is an incredible opportunity from Mr. Stronach and Sarit and just to hear the next generations and their opinions – I think more companies should do that. I am super-excited – and I’m super-excited because we all get one of the Sarits, too.

“I think everyone had great points. Everyone had the common goal in mind to make Canada a better place. I think everyone had great things to say. The awesome thing was everyone had such diverse views as well, nothing was super-similar.”

Native American students have chance to win $2,000 scholarship Essay contest recognizes Native American youth

sarit scholarship essay contest

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. —The Frank Harrison and Harry Austin Voting Rights Essay Contest offers Native American college students a chance to win a $2,000 scholarship.

This voting rights essay recognizes American Indian youth who are determined to uplift the voices of their peers and community members by participating in civic engagement efforts.

Jason Beard, youth engagement coordinator for the Inter Tribal Council of Arizona, said the essay contest is important because it’s essential to get youth to vote and to be engaged even in non-election years.

Beard said the contest is in its second year and that much work remains to be done.

“The youth need to hear the cool things we are doing,” Beard said. “This is a cool engaging way for the youth to hear what people are doing and reward winners to help them advance in their post-secondary education.”

Beard said the essay contest is important because they want to get the youth engaged.

“It starts with the youth,” he said. “If we can get them to vote in county and state elections, that’s a big deal. We want them participating and talking to friends and family. This is one of the big steps to enhance voting.”

Beard said a good number of Native American college students are involved in voting and issues involving voting.

“A lot of Native students are excited about it,” he said.

He believes Native American voters made a difference in last year’s election in Arizona.

“But there is still room to grow,” he said. “We want to do creative things to get communities involved.”

Beard said he hopes the contest will inspire more native youth to get involved because it can help them with their post-secondary education.

“Just asking questions sparks the process, putting thoughts on paper inspires them,” he said.

Beard said suffrage is the most important right of a democracy and ensures voices are heard.

“This is the best way to pay homage to those who fought for the right to vote,” he said. “I’m really fortunate to work on this program.”

If any Native American college students are unsure if they should submit an essay, he wants to encourage them to do so.

“We will be looking at every application. It’s not just about winning but about getting information out so please, please participate,” he said.

Beard, who is non-Native, earned a degree in American history from St. Martins University in Washington State. He also works on ITCA’s summer EBT program and works with 20 schools to provide food programs during the summer when some youth would not otherwise get meals.

Beard said the vote does not stop after Election Day. He said it is “a new beginning towardd the future of your community.”

Beard said the Arizona legislature continues to meet on issues that directly impact everyone’s family and friends.

“As citizens, it is your duty to follow your vote and ensure local, state and federal officials are acting on the issues that are most important to you,” Beard said.

History of Native Americans right to vote

On July 15, 1948, a court decision by the Supreme Court of Arizona granted American Indians the right to vote due to the commitment of Frank Harrison and Harry Austin.

Today, Native Americans celebrate their achievements by participating in local, state and federal elections. In Arizona, tribal communities were among those who showed up to the polls in record numbers during the 2020 general election.

Frank Harrison and Harry Austin were pivotal in achieving voting rights for American Indians in Arizona. The Scholarship Essay Contest seeks to honor their legacy.

These 3 Catering Assistant cover letter example s should provide you with a good steer on how to write your own cover letter, and the general structure to follow.

Our simple step-by-step guide below provides some more detailed advice on how you can craft a winning cover letter for yourself, that will ensure your CV gets opened.

How to write a Catering Assistant cover letter

A simple step-by-step guide to writing your very own winning cover letter.

How to write a cover letter

Write your cover letter in the body of an email/message

You should write your cover letter in the body of the email (or messaging system if sending via a job board) and never attach it as a document.

The reason for this?

You want your cover letter to start connecting with the recruiter from the moment they open your application.

If they have to open a document to read it, it will slow things down and they may not even bother to open it.

Write cover letter in body of email

Start with a friendly greeting

Cover letter address

To build an instant connection with the recruiter reading your cover letter, start with a warm greeting.

It should be friendly but not casual – keeping it professional at all times.

  • Hi, hope you’re well
  • Hi [insert recruiter name]
  • Hi [insert department/team name]

Avoid overly formal greetings like “Dear sir/madam ” unless applying to very traditional companies.

How to find the contact’s name?

Addressing the recruitment contact by name is an excellent way to start building a strong relationship. If it is not listed in the job advert, try these methods to find it.

  • Check out the company website and look at their  About page. If you see a hiring manager, HR person or internal recruiter, use their name. You could also try to figure out who would be your manager in the role and use their name.
  • Head to LinkedIn , search for the company and scan through the list of employees. Most professionals are on LinkedIn these days, so this is a good bet.

Identify the role you are applying for

Once you’ve opened up the cover letter with a warm greeting to start building a relationship, it is time to identify which role you want to apply for.

Recruiters are often managing multiple vacancies, so you need to ensure you apply to the correct one.

Be very specific and use a reference number if you can find one.

  • I am interested in applying for the position of Catering Assistant with your company.
  • I would like to apply for the role of Sales assistant (Ref: 406f57393)
  • I would like to express my interest in the customer service vacancy within your retail department
  • I saw your advert for a junior project manager on Reed and would like to apply for the role.

Highlight your suitability

The sole objective of your cover letter is to motivate recruiters into to opening your CV. And you achieve this by quickly explaining your suitability to the roles you are applying for.

Take a look at the job descriptions you are applying to, and make note of the most important skills and qualifications being asked for.

Then, when crafting your cover letter, make your suitability the central focus.

Explain why you are the best qualified candidate, and why you are so well suited to carry out the job.

This will give recruiters all the encouragement they need to open your CV and consider you for the job.

Cover letter tips

Keep it short and sharp

When sending a job application to a recruiter or hiring manager, it is important to remember that they will normally be very busy and pushed for time.

Therefore, you need to get you message across to them quickly (in a matter of seconds ideally). So, keep your cover letter short and to-the-point. A long waffling cover letter will overwhelm recruiters when they are running through hundreds of emails in there inbox, but a concise one will get their attention.

So, keep your cover letter to just a few sentences long, and save the extensive detail for your CV.

Sign off professionally

To round of your CV, you should sign off with a professional signature.

This will give your cover letter a slick appearance and also give the recruiter all of the necessary contact information they need to get in touch with you.

The information to add should include:

  • A friendly sign off – e.g. “Kindest regards”
  • Your full name
  • Phone number (one you can answer quickly)
  • Email address
  • Profession title
  • Professional social network –  e.g. LinkedIn

Here is an example signature;

Warm regards,

Jill North IT Project Manager 078837437373 [email protected] LinkedIn

Quick tip: To save yourself from having to write your signature every time you send a job application, you can save it within your email drafts, or on a separate documents that you could copy in.

The cover letter is kind of a test for you. It tests to see whether you can craft a compelling narrative about yourself. By testing your cover letter writing abilities, the company is trying to assess whether or not you would be able to craft compelling narratives on behalf of that company in the future.

Many companies will let you optionally attach a cover letter along with your application. If you take this as a challenge for yourself and do so, it will showcase your firm commitment to the company, and allows you to tell a story about yourself as a leader and as a collaborator. A solid cover letter will leave a long-lasting impression in the recruiters mind and will help make you stand out from other candidates.

And here's the most important reason of all: the process involved is more important than the output. When you get into the cover letter writing process, you're compelled to figure out the story about yourself, and how you are the best solution for the company's pain.

You're advised to conduct pre-interview research about the company so that you know exactly what you're meant to tackle, and you know exactly how to position yourself throughout the interview. Once you've written your Catering Assistant cover letter, you'll have a mental reference point about how you want to talk about yourself across all of your interviews, and that's incredibly valuable!

Structure of the Catering Assistant cover letter

The most effective and impact making cover letters consists of three core parts.

The first part is the introduction. The first paragraph should include the following key details: which company you're applying to, what role you're applying to, and a summary of how you will add value to the company.

Many cover letters fail to mention either the job title or the name of the company. This provides a clear indication to the employer that you're using the same cover letter for many companies, which further indicates that you aren't serious enough or you don't care enough about making a good impression. If this is the case, it's better to not write a cover letter at all! And, always make sure you're sending the right cover letter to the right company.

Most of the time, applicants take advantage of cover letter examples or cover letter samples , and forget to clean it up. You need to ensure that you've put in all the hard work in personalization of your cover letter - be professional!

It shouldn't really be about you - rather, it should be about how you're excited about what the company is doing, and about how you're the perfect fit to solve their needs. And if you feel that you can't directly address the job requirements on the company website, you may need to consider applying for a different role instead.

The second part is the narrative. The second paragraph includes your story where you tell about yourself, and where you showcase that your past experiences have made you capable enough to be the best suited candidate available for that specific position.

Use it to address questions that might come up in an interview, such as “what was your proudest moment”, “how did you overcome failure”, and “tell us about a time when you took an initiative from start to end successfully.”

Always remember to customize your cover letter to the specific employer and the specific role that you're applying for rather than using a standard one for all which lands in the bin.

Finally, the last part is the conclusion. In the last & closing paragraph, summarize what value addition you'll bring to the company and why you're the perfect fit for the specific role. Express your excitement about being a part of the team in the near future. Remind them that they should reach out to you to schedule an interview so that they can learn more about how you're the best person to solve their problems.

With a cover letter created with the above structure, you're definitely gonna leave a solid impression that will grab the attention of hiring managers which significantly increases your chances of getting a job interview.

Must Read: Tips for Customizing your Cover Letter

Before you write a single word of your cover letter, you must first prepare your thoughts and pen down on a blank paper.

Ask questions to yourself like: What are your strengths? Where do you stand as a Catering Assistant? Which of your work experiences is the best so far for the companies you've worked with?

Similarly, conduct research on the company . What is their product, their competitors, their mission, and what is their culture? What problem statement are they trying to solve with the Catering Assistant role that you're applying to?

So now you must be having 2 stories - one for you and the other of the company. Write down both the stories on a paper. Review your two stories and your pre-interview research, and use that to hammer out your introduction and your conclusion. !

Now bring the whole thing down to a single page eliminating all the unnecessary and unrequired stuff. When the hiring managers assess your cover letter or your resume, they do not evaluate you on the basis of your sum of your experiences but on the average of your experiences. Hence, try to eliminate or cut out every single irrelevant word you've put in as it's gonna bring down the averages of your experience.

One of the simple ways to make sure that your cover letter stands out from the numerous other candidates' cover letters is to personalize your cover letter which helps you grab the hiring manager's attention. Express your enthusiasm about the job showcasing why you're the perfect fit for that specific role and how excited you are to be the part of the team.

Make use of the job description to which you are applying for which will help you to write a cover letter that clearly demonstrates how your skills, experience, or background make you the best available candidate to be a Catering Assistant for the company. You should demonstrate exactly how much you are interested in the organization and the position, showing that you are able to meet the needs of the company.

Don't forget to learn about the organization. Take some time out to peruse the company's website and learn their values, mission, and then incorporate that information in your cover letter. Let the recruiters know how you came across this position and detail how your ideals are in line with the organization's goals and how your plans for your career can benefit their objectives.

Always make sure you only focus on the skills in the cover letter which the organisation demands and have highlighted in their job description. Specifically, the ones that are listed as being required separately, do not forget to put them in. Give a brief on these skills by offering concrete examples of how you are using or have used them with any success story(if any).

Proofreading & Iterating - Once you're finished writing your cover letter, edit your cover letter and ask for the feedback from your friend or of you have any consultant/mentor, and repeat this process until you and your reviewer agree and are satisfied that you are the best fit for the job from all other candidates that are applying. Learn to use grammarly .

Key points to remember - don't worry too much about the salutation or the greeting. It doesn't matter whether you use "dear sir or madam" or "dear hiring manager" or "to whomsoever it may concern" - the ultimate goal is to demonstrate that you're the stand out candidate out of everyone who's applying for that job posting. Just focus on the core value that you're bringing to the company! If you experience difficulty in composing your cover letter professionally, you can hire an essay writer at CustomWritings to have your cover letter or job application paper written from scratch.
