Vacations are a great time to relax and enjoy. A family vacation is even more special as it strengthens the bond among family members.

The Journey

The journey is filled with laughter and fun. We play games, share stories, and enjoy the beautiful landscapes passing by.

Exploring New Places

Visiting new places together is exciting. We learn about different cultures, try new foods, and make unforgettable memories.

A vacation with family is precious. It allows us to spend quality time together, creating a treasure trove of beautiful memories.

250 Words Essay on Vacation With Family

Vacations with family hold a special place in our hearts, offering a unique blend of relaxation, bonding, and shared experiences. These moments are not just about escaping daily routines, but also about creating memories that last a lifetime.

The Importance of Family Vacations

Family vacations offer an unparalleled opportunity to strengthen bonds. The shared experiences, laughter, and even disagreements foster understanding and empathy, contributing to a more profound familial connection. They also provide a platform for parents to model adaptability and problem-solving skills to their children, thus helping them grow.

Creating Lifelong Memories

Family vacations are a treasure trove of memories. The joy of exploring new places, the thrill of trying different cuisines, or the serenity of watching a sunset together, all become part of our collective memory bank. These memories often become stories that are recounted at family gatherings, embedding themselves into the fabric of family history.

Education Beyond Textbooks

Family vacations are also an opportunity for experiential learning. Visiting historical sites, interacting with diverse cultures, or exploring nature’s wonders can supplement classroom knowledge, fostering a holistic understanding of the world.

In conclusion, vacations with family are more than just leisure activities. They serve as a catalyst for strengthening relationships, creating lasting memories, and fostering personal growth. They are an investment in shared experiences that enrich our lives and deepen our understanding of each other. Despite the occasional challenges, the rewards of these shared journeys are truly priceless.

500 Words Essay on Vacation With Family

The essence of vacationing with family.

Vacationing with family is an experience that transcends the boundaries of mere enjoyment. It is a time of bonding, understanding, and creating memories that last a lifetime. It is an opportunity to escape the monotony of daily life, to explore new places, and to immerse ourselves in diverse cultures and experiences.

Learning and Growth

Family vacations serve as a platform for learning and growth. They provide a break from the structured learning environment of schools and colleges, offering a more experiential form of education. Visiting historical sites, for instance, can bring history lessons to life, making them more tangible and memorable. Similarly, interacting with people from different cultures can foster a sense of empathy and understanding that textbooks often fail to impart.

Strengthening Bonds

Vacations also play a crucial role in strengthening familial bonds. In today’s fast-paced world, quality family time is often sacrificed for work or academic commitments. A family vacation provides an opportunity to reconnect, to engage in shared activities, and to create shared memories. These experiences can foster a sense of unity and strengthen emotional connections, which are integral to maintaining healthy family relationships.

Creating Memories

The memories created during family vacations are invaluable. They serve as a repository of joy and nostalgia that can be revisited in times of distress or change. They remind us of our roots, of the love and support that our family offers, and of the adventures we’ve shared. These memories are not just snapshots of past vacations, but are part of our identity, shaping our perceptions and our understanding of our family and our place within it.

Building Resilience

Family vacations also help in building resilience. Travel often involves facing unexpected challenges – a missed flight, lost luggage, or a sudden change in plans. Navigating these challenges as a family can foster problem-solving skills, flexibility, and resilience. It teaches us to adapt, to remain calm in the face of adversity, and to work together towards a common goal.

In conclusion, vacationing with family is more than just a leisure activity. It is a multifaceted experience that promotes learning, strengthens bonds, creates enduring memories, and builds resilience. It is an investment in personal growth and familial relationships, yielding dividends that last a lifetime. As we navigate the complexities of adulthood, these vacations serve as a reminder of the simple joys of life and the comfort of family. They remind us that amidst the hustle and bustle of life, it is essential to pause, to explore, and to cherish the company of our loved ones.

My last holiday was a five-day trip to Prague in the Czech Republic. I know Prague well because I lived there when I was at university, more than ten years ago.

Instead of staying in a hotel, I stayed with one of my old friends. It was so much fun, and a little bit like my old life. I wanted to do all the same things I did in my university days, so I visited the university. It has changed a lot and looks more modern. I also went to the supermarket near my old house. I loved seeing all the different foods. I was really happy to find my favourite cheese and chocolate biscuits but they were a bit more expensive than I remember!

We did some touristy things too. We walked up beautiful Petrin Hill and around the castle. The views of the city are amazing up there. We walked across the historic Charles Bridge. My friend's flat is very near the TV Tower so we saw the famous baby statues climbing up it. Those things haven't changed, of course.

I want you to know that I am very happy and enjoying my vacation quite a bit. The destination on this vacation has been the Colombian Caribbean coast, We arrived two days ago, this is a very nice experience. Yesterday I discovered the window to the world that is located in Barranquilla, as well as the boardwalk, they are very warm places but above all very visited, as the afternoon fell I went to visit some of my husband's brothers. Tomorrow we will get up very early to travel a few kilometers and be able to visit Cabo de la Vela, in La Guajira, we will leave at 6 am, because we must be in Uribia Guajira at 3 pm, there the tour guide will be waiting for us, who will be the one in charge of directing this adventure. I also had the opportunity to visit Cartagena de Indias and its beautiful beaches, I really liked getting to know the beach, the sea and the people who live there, But what I liked most was being able to visit Cabo de la Vela and learn a little about the reality of the Wayuu culture, being able to enjoy the beautiful landscapes and sunsets that this beautiful place offers.

My last was holiday three-week trip to Fez in Morocco. Fez it’s my hometown so I know it well because I lived there for 26 years. I went to visit my family there and I stayed at home, every day I was invited by my sisters and brothers, they made me delicious dishes and we had a good time together. I’ve been seeing my friends every day in the café, we’ve been seeing football matches and we’ve been talking about different topics. In this holiday I made many things important for me, I had driving courses to be confident when I’m going to buy a car, in the same time I had English courses.

My last holiday was a three-day trip to Thua Thien Hue in Vietnam. I always want to go there, so in the summer of last year, I decided to take a trip to Hue with my family.

We booked a small hostel near Hue Walking Road. We stayed in a twin room, which was clean and had full amenities. The owner was very friendly; he showed us good restaurants, attractions, and how to deal with sellers in the market. We tried local foods such as Bun Bo Hue, Banh Xeo, Banh Bot Loc, etc. The food in Hue is cheap and amazing; I thought that I could eat it all day!

We did some touristy things too. We visited Hue Capital and had a chance to learn more about Vietnam's history. The architecture is very majestic and beautiful. We also went to Thien Mu Pagoda. It is one of the most sacred temples in Vietnam, so we prayed for health and happiness and wished everyone good luck. In the evening, we walked across the historic Trang Tien Bridge. It was so beautiful at night; there were a lot of people walking there.

It was three amazing days. I felt so relaxed and hope to visit more places in Vietnam.

My last holiday was a two-day trip to Baguio in the Philippines. I had lived there before for five months. So I decided to go back for just a visit on my holiday. Unfortunately, there was heavily raining as we got off the bus. Otherwise, getting a taxi was super hard, and we were waiting for around an hour. Fortunately, I got home safely and I made so much fun with my friends. I visited the old places that I often did because it made me happy and refresh. In conclusion, I had so much fun spending my last holiday in Baguio.

I remember last year when I went with friend to the beach in summer. My Lastsummer holidays was 2days and 3 nights trip to Ngwe Saung Beach in Myanamr . Ngwe Saung, is a beach resort located 48 km west of Pathein, Ayeyarwady Region, Myanmar. In 2014, the town of Ngwesaung had 10,732 people. The beach is 5hours drive with no traffic away from the principal city of Yangon. Ngwe Saung is well know for An unspoilt 15 kilometres stretch of silvery sand and modern amenities have made Ngwe Saung a popular destination for less budget conscious tourists from Lower Myanmar. I booked for our stay at a hotel near the beach, name was "Grand Paradise Hotel ". My friend and i prepared everything we needed on our trip as light food and soft drinks to have on the way to the hotel. And also we prepared necessary clothing for the sea, sun cream and some essential medicines. After 5hours of driving we arrived the hotel at 12PM afternoon and went to our rooms to rest change clothes and take all what we need to go to the beach. This Hotel is near the beach, all services was good and room are cleaned, wide and nice. We put our bags on the table and went to swim in the sea and then went out for lunch that my friend ordered from a fish restaurant . The Crab ,Lobster and fish was fresh and tasty and we enjoyed our meal very much. After lunch we sat under the canopy enjoying the sea view, refreshing breaths ,listening to music and playing fun games. OH really nice Ngwe Saung beach Myanamr.

My last holiday was far away in time in different reasons. We were at black sea coast on September so there where not so much other people. We was drinking a wine that was cheap there and going some excursions

My last holiday. Last summer, in particular on the last weekend of June, I decided to visit Granada, an amazing city in Spain. I visited Granada for the second time with my family, my wife, and two daughters. I was so happy because I visited Granada sights, especially Alhambra Palace, and Civilization Museum. We arrived at the hotel by bus at 11 a.m. The hotel was wonderful and clean, and the food they offer was delicious. My family really liked the traditional typical dishes of Granada, in particular the dish named Baella. During the holiday, I met some of my Spanish colleagues and they invited us to visit their house which is located in a nice village in the city suburb. Really, I liked this place for the large landscape, calmness, and the kind people who live in. On the fifth day of our holiday, we walked around the city and saw the old city which has been built above the mountain. So, you can see the whole city from above it. Despite the enjoyment that we have got, the negative thing about that holiday was that we spent so much money and also many friends need to buy some things from there, so I bought some souvenirs and I hope that I can keep one for myself to remind of that divine place. By and large, this holiday was great and unforgettable thanks to my Spanish friend, Gaspar, who provided me with a Guidebook which makes my trip easy and coy.

My last holiday was four days on São Miguel dos Milagres with my family. We stay on the beach house of my grandpa. There is a pool, and four rooms in that. There we go to the beach, to some interesting restaurants, to a beach clube and to an ice cream shop. I love that travel and i'd love go back to São Miguel dos Milagres.

On the first weekend in March, we took an amazing trip to Barcelona. We went by train from Atocha station and the journey lasted two and a half hours.

When we arrived at the historic Barcelona Sants station, we took the metro to Plaza de Tetuan, which is where we had the apartment. We left our baggage and went to visit the city centre, Las Ramblas, Plaza Catalunya, La Boqueria Market, Paseo de Gracia, etc. On Sunday, we saw the beautiful Sagrada Familia which is my favourite landmark. Later, we went to the incredible Nou Camp stadium to see the Barça game against Valencia. After the game we visited the official store and did some shopping but everything was very expensive. On Monday, before returning to Madrid we went back to the Nou Camp to take a guided tour of the trophy room, changing rooms, benches, and the VIP box.

At the end, we went to the apartment to take the suitcases and so, we took the metro to the Sants station where we boarded the high speed train back to Madrid.

I go to Thailand for a camping holiday, It was fun I go caving on the first day, I see many bets are sleeping on top of the cave.(no time to finish)

Essay About Vacation With Family

The first time I went on vacation with my parents, I was extremely excited. I was 14, fresh out of middle school, and I felt like I was the only child my age who hadn't gone on a vacation.  So when my dad said that we were going to Tybee Island, a beach in Georgia, I couldn't be happier. It was also a bonus that the vacation was at the beach, being that I absolutely love the sun and the heat! This trip to the beach was going to be a fun, family bonding experience that left me relaxed and jovial.

The week before, my mother and I went shopping for our trip. We bought bathing suits, beach clothes, towels, sandals and anything else we needed. The beach was four hours away, so we decided to drive. My father flew down from New York and rented a car to drive us to Tybee Beach. We left for the trip at around 8 in the evening. I have never driven with my dad for a long period before so I was super excited. During the drive, we ate snacks and listened to music only I liked. As we got closer to the beach, it started to storm heavily. It was frightening as the roads were wet and we couldn't see very far ahead. I decided to sleep the rest of the way. When I awoke, we had arrived!

Our first morning there, my dad and I got up early to go walk on the beach. We played in the water, laid on the beach, and collected seashells. It was very delightful to spend quality time together as I don't see him very often. After the beach, we sat by the hotel pool and laid in the sun.

My mom had stayed in the hotel because she wanted to sleep in. My mother and I decided to walk around the gift shops near the beach.

The rest of the week was filled with great experiences as we explored the island. On one of the days of the trip, we did a tour ecology tour on the south side of the beach. The tour guide showed us parts of the beach where organisms were hiding. We also were allowed to help pull in a net from the ocean to show us the different species of fish that were located in Tybee (we threw the fish back into the ocean). The tour ended with the guide pointing out the dolphins that were swimming near the shore.  The next day, we did a dolphin tour on a huge boat ride. It was very exciting to be on the boat in the ocean and we saw plenty of dolphins.

On the last night of the trip, my parents and I went to a nearby seafood restaurant and we ordered a feast. After we ate, we took one final walk on the beach and then we went back to the hotel. That day was one of the happiest days I've had in a long time. It was a very good time in my family's life. The drive home was blissful as we all reflected on our joyous trip.

Editor’s Note: We know that many of you are looking for help writing travel experience essays for school or simply writing about a trip for your friends or family. To inspire you and help you write your next trip essay—whether it’s an essay about a trip with family or simply a way to remember your best trip ever (so far)—we enlisted the help of Professor Kathleen Boardman, whose decades of teaching have helped many college students learn the fine art of autobiography and life writing. Here’s advice on how to turn a simple “my best trip” essay into a story that will inspire others to explore the world.

Welcome home! Now that you’re back from your trip, you’d like to share it with others in a travel essay. You’re a good writer and a good editor of your work, but you’ve never tried travel writing before. As your potential reader, I have some advice and some requests for you as you write your travel experience essay.

Trip Essays: What to Avoid

Please don’t tell me everything about your trip. I don’t want to know your travel schedule or the names of all the castles or restaurants you visited. I don’t care about the plane trip that got you there (unless, of course, that trip is the story).

I have a friend who, when I return from a trip, never asks me, “How was your trip?” She knows that I would give her a long, rambling answer: “… and then … and then … and then.” So instead, she says, “Tell me about one thing that really stood out for you.” That’s what I’d like you to do in this travel essay you’re writing.

The Power of Compelling Scenes

One or two “snapshots” are enough—but make them great. Many good writers jump right into the middle of their account with a vivid written “snapshot” of an important scene. Then, having aroused their readers’ interest or curiosity, they fill in the story or background. I think this technique works great for travel writing; at least, I would rather enjoy a vivid snapshot than read through a day-to-day summary of somebody’s travel journal.

Write About a Trip Using Vivid Descriptions

Take your time. Tell a story. So what if you saw things that were “incredible,” did things that were “amazing,” observed actions that you thought “weird”? These words don’t mean anything to me unless you show me, in a story or a vivid description, the experience that made you want to use those adjectives.

I’d like to see the place, the people, or the journey through your eyes, not someone else’s. Please don’t rewrite someone else’s account of visiting the place. Please don’t try to imitate a travel guide or travelogue or someone’s blog or Facebook entry. You are not writing a real travel essay unless you are describing, as clearly and honestly as possible, yourself in the place you visited. What did you see, hear, taste, say? Don’t worry if your “take” on your experience doesn’t match what everyone else says about it. (I’ve already read what THEY have to say.)

The Importance of Self-Editing Your Trip Essay

Don’t give me your first draft to read. Instead, set it aside and then reread it. Reread it again. Where might I need more explanation? What parts of your account are likely to confuse me? (After all, I wasn’t there.) Where might you be wasting my time by repeating or rambling on about something you’ve already told me?

Make me feel, make me laugh, help me learn something. But don’t overdo it: Please don’t preach to me about broadening my horizons or understanding other cultures. Instead, let me in on your feelings, your change of heart and mind, even your fear and uncertainty, as you confronted something you’d never experienced before. If you can, surprise me with something I didn’t know or couldn’t have suspected.

You Can Do It: Turning Your Trip into a Great Travel Experience Essay

I hope you will take yourself seriously as a traveler and as a writer. Through what—and how—you write about just a small portion of your travel experience, show me that you are an interesting, thoughtful, observant person. I will come back to you, begging for more of your travel essays.

Are you required to write an essay about your summer vacation or your holiday break? This can be a tough assignment to tackle at first glance. But if you think about it, there are lots of interesting things that happen on your vacation that others might enjoy reading about. The key to success is to zero in on the experiences, people, or situations that made your vacation unique.

Summer vacation can be busy or lazy, funny or serious. You may have traveled with your family, worked every day, fallen in love, or coped with a difficult situation. To start your essay, you'll need to choose a topic and tone.

Family Vacation Essay Topic Ideas

If you traveled with your family, you may have some great stories to tell. After all, every family is crazy in its own way. Want some proof? How many Hollywood films have themes about family holidays or trips? Those films are popular because they enable us to glimpse inside the crazy family lives of others. Alternatively, you may have a more serious story to tell.

Consider these funny topics:

  • Why I'll Never Go Back to (insert place name)
  • How (insert name) Drove Me Crazy in Five Days
  • Traveling to (insert city) Then and Now
  • The Hazards of Traveling With a (person or thing)
  • Why You Shouldn't Take a Dog to (insert place)
  • I Left (insert city) But My (lost item) Stayed
  • Why I Couldn't Sleep in (place name)

If your family vacation involved something more serious, think about one of these topics:

  • The Love I Left Behind in (insert place)
  • Saying Good-Bye to (insert person or place)
  • Exploring (place's) Secrets
  • An Emotional Trip

How to Write the Essay

Once you've chosen your topic and your tone, think about the story you want to tell. In most cases, your essay will follow a typical story arc:

  • The hook (the funny, sad, or scary sentence that grabs the reader's attention)
  • The rising action (the beginning of your story)
  • The climax (the most exciting moment in your story)
  • The denouement (the aftermath or ending to your story)

Start by writing out the basic outline of your story. For example, "I started cleaning a guest's room and found that they'd left behind a wallet with $100 in cash. When I turned it in without taking a single dollar for myself, my boss rewarded me with a $100 gift certificate and a special award for honesty."

Next, start fleshing out the details. What was the room like? What was the guest like? What did the wallet look like and where was it left? Were you tempted to just take the money and turn in the wallet empty? How did your boss look when you handed her the wallet? How did you feel when you got your reward? How did others around you react to your honesty?

Once you've told your story in all its detail, it's time to write the hook and conclusion. What question or thought can you use to grab your reader's attention? For example: "What would you do if you found a wallet loaded with cash? That was my dilemma this summer."

Dream Family Vacation and Its Benefits Essay

Introduction.

Leisure is a very essential aspect of every individual’s life. It entails taking a break from daily activities and demands and having some fun with friends and family. Vacation is a period spent for rest and leisure-related activities such as recreation and travel, putting aside aspects of work, or any other activity that occupies our routine practices for instance studies. There are various ways through which a vacation could be spent depending on what an individual or a particular group of people deem enjoyable. Some may consider having a good time indoors while others would prefer traveling to cool entertainment places the latter option is most preferred.

Vacations go hand in hand with some spending since people tend to consider enjoying what they have not been having on normal occasions. The expenses could, for example, include traveling costs, lodging, food, and drinks as well as charges on other forms of recreation like swimming among others. This essay looks at the worth of spending on a vacation in an effort to justify expenditure with my family on the planned vocational trip.

The family vacation

I personally consider a vacation to be a healthy and important aspect to every individual irrespective of age or social status. Having been busy for most periods of the year, I have decided to spend an interesting vacation with my family (parents and siblings) for the purposes of breaking the boredom and relaxing. I have opted for a short trip, one week long, to the coastal region where entertainment facilities are adequate.

This step is driven by my belief that a family that spends time together for instance on vacations establishes strong bonding that is essential for a healthy family. Initially, I have to persuade my family members to agree on going out for the vacation since it is not an ordinary aspect and it is thus received with some form of resistance as most of them cannot clearly understand the essence of heavy spending instead of just staying at home.

According to my, the vacation is worth the spending since every person is to enjoy the trip to the maximum. Change is just like rest and the variation in family time spending will contribute a lot to each family member. The young siblings will for example have some ample time to spend together and engage in different activities that will help them appreciate each other as a result of having time to understand one another.

For our parents, the vacation will offer ample time for bonding and sharing much, in an environment that is away from home an aspect that may in one way or the other strengthen their relationship. To us, the youths, we will have an opportunity to interact with other youths and share experiences that could be beneficial for growth and development or social well being.

Vacation also benefits the family as a whole in that it makes it easier to understand one another as there is a close involvement hence allowing for the learning of what each person likes and dislikes and hence learning how to treat them in different situations to promote peace and harmony in the family. Vacation in a different place apart from home also helps individuals to be themselves and have fun because the environment is not controlled unlike when in the house, school, or work.

The vacation involving my family will help in physical and mental relaxation and reduction of stress levels that accumulate in our daily schedules at work, as well as studies for those in learning institutions and it, will also promote a healthy lifestyle that is achievable through the incorporation of work and leisure. Adventure and discovery of new places and cultural diversity is also a positive attribute that will be gained among the family members through the visit of places and meeting of new individuals. Vacation has a long-term effect on the improvement of life as it helps in refreshing one’s mind and hence enhancing an individual’s concentration and performance in different activities leading to improved productivity.

A vacation is a significant aspect that should be spent in the best way possible. It is however a concept that many individuals take lightly attaching very little importance to it. The most controversial element is the spending associated with vacations where most people do not find any justification for spending on aspects that could otherwise be avoided, to save on money for other basic activities.

This is attributed to the deterioration of the general economy which necessitates some considerable thoughts before engaging in any form of activity. All in all, I consider spending on vacation to be worthwhile as it is associated with various benefits as mentioned earlier in this essay and it only requires appropriate planning and budgeting. For this reason, I managed to persuade my family to engage in the vacation and have some time together in a relaxed mode, and the benefits we achieved surpass the spending involved to a great extent.

Essay: How to Survive a Family Vacation

Writer Catherine Myer discusses how she survived an international trip with her family

essay on a family vacation

My dad likes to call our five-person family “a wolf pack” any time we travel together. This is mostly due to our history of fitting all of us into one hotel room.

Traveling as a family of five has always had its difficulties — needing to add an extra seat to even-numbered tables, for starters. But my family is well-accustomed to the five-person travel style.

Recently, my family spent Christmas and New Year’s in Rome in a two-bedroom, one bathroom apartment. Here are my tips, rules and other general advice on how we survived.

I’ve learned how to share a bed.

As the middle child , I’m always tasked with sharing a bed with one of my siblings while on vacation. This has never made sense to me because I am quite possibly the worst person to share a bed with.

In the mornings, my siblings used to wake up to our pillow divider crushed beneath the weight of my flailing limbs. They complained to my parents about elbows in their sides or stolen blankets during the night.

I, in turn, would complain about being shaken awake and forced back to my side of the bed by insistent shoves or kicks. I never mentioned my siblings’ whispered threats because I definitely said worse things back to them.

During our time in Rome, I shared a bed with my sister — accomplished with only minimal bloodshed. I was complimented on my newfound ability to stay on my own side of the bed.

So, I’ve found that learning to share a bed makes the night much more enjoyable for both parties — and certainly less violent.

Splitting food is a given.

My family likes to try bites of everyone’s food. Meal decisions are discussed soon after our menus are opened, and negotiations are struck — “I’ll give you some of my food if I get to try yours.”

The problem is my family shares a similar taste in food, meaning we all tend to order the same things. This then prompts one person, usually my dad, to order a different dish they end up not liking.

The result is a fork prodding at your plate every once in a while and an envious compliment about how you “chose the best dish.” So it’s not all bad. I especially like to smugly rub it in my family’s faces when I am crowned with the best meal.

We can always find the museum benches.

While the Vatican Museums are jaw-droppingly gorgeous and endlessly interesting, spending nine hours inside them can be overwhelming, even for the most experienced of museum-goers.

Not for my dad, though. Museum fatigue is an unknown affliction to him. While Dad continued to gaze at Carlo Crivelli’s “ Madonna with Child and Saints ,” the rest of us desperately searched for benches to rest our weary feet.

“It’s beautiful — shockingly modern,” he told us. “I’d like to purchase a print of it.”

It was just another medieval painting to us.

But the art was clearly significant to him, so we used our expert museum knowledge to find somewhere to sit and wait. Dad eventually meandered over to us, satisfied with his time spent in front of Crivelli, and we were well-rested enough to continue walking.

We know how to have fun.

In a similar manner to number three, my dad likes to explore areas travel writer Rick Steves lists for “overachievers.” This includes the Etruscan exhibits in the Vatican Museums.

These rooms were practically empty of visitors — drastically different to the hoards of people we had to push through elsewhere in the museums. Glass cabinets lined the walls, filled with pottery, rocks and more pottery.

“The ceiling is more interesting than the exhibit,” I told my dad, jokingly. He paid me no mind.

I decided to gasp loudly at every pottery sherd.

“I’ve never seen anything like this,” I sarcastically whispered to my mom.

I posed next to the displays of miscellaneous Etruscan artifacts and forced my dad to take dramatic photos of me. I giggled over the Etruscan vases detailing men peeing into chamber pots or nursing a hangover.

essay on a family vacation

Overall, traveling as a family of five means compromising. I consider myself extremely lucky to have a family well-versed in such a practice. Every trip is magnificent and practically perfect in every way.

We’re already planning our next Christmas and New Year’s trip. I’m even looking forward to sharing a bed again.

essay on a family vacation

Sample Essay on the Value of a Family Vacation

In this mechanical world, we tend to forget the importance of a family and the time which we need to spend with it. We need to acknowledge that a family is built upon the pillars of love, compromise, trust, and responsibility. However, a family vacation is something which gives us the opportunity to take a break from our offices, schools, colleges, and universities and invest that time in developing a strong relationship with our family members.

Reality Check

Due to the increase in social media networks, the use of mobiles, and the latest technologies, families are already suffering the most. We have become too obsessed with online interactions that we have lost contact from reality. So, a family vacation can give you a reality check on the things you are missing out in this modern world.

Much Needed Break

There would be hardly any person who is not burned out from the daily hectic routine of his life. So a family vacation is a break from all tensions, worries, and frustrations for a while. You get an escape from your strict schedule which is literally no less than a blessing. However, you must make sure that you make your family vacation as relaxing and carefree as possible to be able to forget about the stress of your life. It would also help refill your energy to enable you to come back stronger and resume your life again.

The memories you can make with your family on a vacation would be long-lasting and mood freshening. You must make sure that you enjoy every single second of your vacation. If you see the places which you adore you can capture them to be able to see them again whenever you feel stressful and depressed because of your professional life. Also, such memories would really help develop a stronger relationship between you and your family members.

Experiences & Learning

A family vacation can give you a chance to explore and have new experiences in your life. If you have kids with you, you must make sure that they also get to learn a few good things from the vacation. Moreover, this way you can teach them a lot about history and geography more than they learn from their books and traditional classroom settings.

Problem-Solving Skills

When you plan a vacation with your family, you might have to find solutions for a lot of different situations. It can really help improve your problem-solving skills. Again, if you try to involve your children in the process, it would help them take calculated decisions, use their creativity, and learn a way of having clear communications. So, any obstacle which might come your way during your family vacation would end up teaching you something positive and great about your life. So, you must take special time out of your schedule to plan a family vacation. You should also make sure that you make the most out of it through proper planning and investment.

Beach Trip With Family

Pleasant description On a lovely summer weekend when sun was playing hide and seek with the clouds, and the temperature was low I accompanied with my mother and my small brother to the beach, the aroma of the sand and roaring of the waves triggered my excitement. I carried our stuff and found a nice place, where I placed the mat for mother and used our umbrella shade to get some cover if needed. There were peaceful trade winds that blew offshore; thus, keeping the waters serene and buzzing our ears. I applied sunscreen on my body and in the meantime my brother started to build a sand castle. He called for help but I took my surfing board and hurriedly jumped into the water and started surfing over the waves. Though I was alone but I was enjoying this peaceful and calm feeling, the water splashing from my surfboard making a shower on my back persuading me to dive in. I was joining my mother and brother in short intervals, and helping them in their sand castle. At last I dived into the water and swam like never before, I tried different styles even I floated on the waves; it was amazing and a memorable experience as I watched the seagulls and aquatic birds flying, making unique and attractive patterns on the sky. It was not just these things; there were plenty of other things that I enjoyed. We tasted different drinks and cocktails while sunbathing to refresh our taste buds and met new people. While on the beach, we enjoyed different servings including grilled cheese and stuffed steamed fish. It was a memorable and fun packed trip with my family, and we enjoyed the tropical paradise without any restrictions.

Unpleasant description

Despite the fact that the beach was lovely and clean, it was overcrowded, may be because of the two reasons that it was a weekend and secondly the weather was perfect for a family picnic. This made the place little untidy and congested, kids were adding more to this by throwing garbage and disrupting the hygienic and healthy environment. The lack of restriction in the beach resulted in drinking; entertainment was so loud and awful. Due to this some people caught into a fight and exchange of words, bachelors were also a part of this crowded the place, many of them were enjoying but few were there to spoil the picnic of others through their cheap and immoral acts, and of course their favorite ogling. Some of the beach lovers reserved their place for beach football and volleyball, creating more difficulty for the people on the beach.

Rhetorical analysis

I decided to describe a beach trip with my family because I know there is a lot that I observed, and I am able to describe it in detail. My trip to the beach offered me the opportunity to observe several things, whether pleasant or unpleasant. While explaining the pleasant and unpleasant descriptions, I considered the concepts in the writer’s toolbox so as to make a description of the beach. Since it was my first time on this beach, I ensured that I observed everything considering what I liked and what I disliked. The trip to the beach with my family was a great experience; however, there were some things that I did not like. In the pleasant description, I used words such as peaceful trade winds that blew offshore to indicate how peaceful the environment was and a nice place to stay. In the unpleasant description, I used words and made statements such as overcrowded, disrupting the hygienic environment and immoral acts that helps to portray the unpleasant environment. In both descriptions, I considered using different words and tones in order to distinguish the two descriptions in the same place and time. I tried to present the whole scene that I experienced at the beach and used those vocabulary which best fits for the situation, and I have described the necessary things, those which I believe should be included. I discussed nature, the birds, their pattern and every inspiring masterpiece of nature. Manipulation of word choices is essential when demonstrating the positive and negative aspects of anything, and I believe that I have chosen the words appropriately. I tried to use excellent and proper sentence structures in order to provide a better and clear description to ensure understanding of the beach and persuade the reader to visit that beach at least for once in his lifetime.

After completing this assignment I realized that how difficult is for an author to write a story and attract the readers, it is very difficult to plot each and everything properly and to describe it to its best. It is not easy to write even a single page, it takes a thorough understanding, brainstorming and pondering of the topic. A well-organized piece of writing is the one where readers develop interest in the writing on their own. I have made efficient use of my limited skills and knowledge in ensuring a detailed description of this place. Before beginning I thought it would be difficult but later I realized that once you start writing thins get easier and it is much easy to describe a place that I am familiar with than an imaginary one. I have also learned that it is possible to write about one place offering two different perspectives, and how to handle and describe them using suitable words. When describing the two descriptions, I manipulated words so that to describe the beach in two different ways. In order to describe one place in two different ways, it requires excellent planning and proper integration of the writer’s toolbox that acts as a guide. As a writer, it is essential to integrate different human senses so as to indulge the reader. I also experienced that we neglect many things in our life regarding them as unimportant and useless, but a writer’s mind is totally different. A writer grasps the hidden things resting in a particular situation and makes it an interesting piece of writing for the reader. I believe presenting your real life experiences or imagination in the form of writing surely enhance your senses and your abilities, as a writer works and write on almost all the topics. I have read articles of same writers but on different topics with the same command, grip and knowledge of the subject. Moreover, this assignment motivated me to continue writing my personal experiences or imaginary thoughts and I believe it will surely help me later in life.

essay on a family vacation

A laid-back family vacation? Here are the 7 best US islands for fun-filled escapes

I sland travel holds a lot of appeal for families. Maybe it's the gorgeous ocean views and pristine beaches that lure us to the most idyllic U.S. islands. Maybe it's the laid-back coastal vibes that make them such a great family vacation idea . I have many fond memories of visiting Martha’s Vineyard, Amelia Island and Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island as a child. For my own little one, there’s something especially magical about taking a ferry to reach our destination.

Of course, not all island vacations in the U.S. need to be accessible by ferry to be charming, but the country's best islands for family vacations are typically surrounded by large bodies of water, which makes them feel remote and removed from the hustle and bustle of daily life. If you're dreaming of a passport-free island vacation with the kids, these are the U.S. islands that have a special appeal to families.

1. Whidbey Island, Washington

Just north of Seattle and easily accessible by ferry, Washington's Whidbey Island is one of the longest islands in the United States, stretching about 40 miles. Though there are several scenic towns on this island, my family's favorites are Langley and Coupeville, both of which offer easy access to kid-friendly activities like hiking, water sports, or a simple day at the beach.

AT THE WATER'S EDGE: 16 best lake resorts and hotels in the U.S. for families

In Langley, stay at the spacious Langley by the Sea rental home for spectacular waterfront views, a fenced backyard, a state-of-the-art kitchen for home-cooked meals, and a large family room perfect for reconnecting with the kids over a classic board game . A quick five-minute drive away, downtown Langley bustles with lively shops and eateries. Stop by Sea Biscuit Bakery for a grab-and-go breakfast and select from one of many house-made pastries and hot breakfast sandwiches. Family-friendly Penn Cove Brewing serves up tacos, sandwiches, and salads. Ultra House offers ramen and Asian fusion with a twist and offers a kids menu.

The town of Coupeville is best known as the film location of the 1998 movie classic "Practical Magic," starring Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman. It’s also a hidden gem for families looking to explore the coast of this fabulous U.S. island vacation destination. Ebey’s Landing National Historical Reserve sits along Puget Sound with more than 30 miles of hiking trails for all skill levels. Stroll along the beach looking for seashells and sea glass, or bring a picnic to enjoy on the beach.

In Coupeville, make Harrington’s Hideaway your home base. The two-bedroom home has a bathtub for those traveling with small kids, in addition to private beach access and a fenced yard where kids can play. Dinner options are aplenty in this little coastal town. Molka Xete serves excellent casual Mexican food, while Gordon’s Fusion dishes out eclectic flavors including jambalaya, carne asada and vegan burgers. Fare Market has a great selection of takeout items on its menu.

FAMILY FUN: 7 charming coastal towns in the U.S. that are perfect for a family vacation

There are plenty of family-friendly activities on the water in Whidbey Island. For families with young kids, I recommend a Family Fun Loop Kayak Tour (ages six and up) with Whidbey Island Kayaking . The 90-minute family tour offers ample opportunities to spot wildlife. Get even further out onto the water on an open deck boat with the one-hour Deception Pass Wildlife Tour , where you can expect to see bald eagles, seals and possibly a whale. For a thrilling land-based adventure, zip-line through an Old Growth forest with Canopy Tours NW .

2. Amelia Island, Florida

Situated off the Sunshine State's northern coast, Amelia Island is one of the most romantic getaways in Florida for couples , but it's also an especially great island for families. The island's most family-friendly amenities can be found at Omni Amelia Island Resort , which has a splash pool, a family pool and daily activities such as pickleball, a tennis clinic, and arts and crafts. This popular resort also has plenty of kid-friendly dining options, including both casual and fine-dining restaurants, which makes it a great option for tired parents after a long day of fun in the sun. Larger families might consider one of the many vacation rental options on the island as well.

SUNSHINE STATE: 10 dreamy Florida beach resorts for families

Lounging on one of Florida's best family beaches is a great way to spend the day. Parents and kids can build sandcastles, go for a swim, or rent a paddleboard or float. But Amelia Island has an adventurous side, too. You can book a river cruise and ecotour to learn more about the wildlife on Cumberland Island, just north of Amelia − don't be surprised if you spot a dolphin or wild horses during your tour. Visit the Historic District on Centre Street for art galleries, vintage shops, and the family-owned Villa Villekulla Toys toy store.

3. Fripp Island, South Carolina

At the southern tip of South Carolina, Fripp Island is just 3,000 acres and is best known for explorers and pirates seeking treasure. Because of its remoteness, it exudes a kind of laid-back charm you can find only on the best island vacations in the U.S., but that doesn't mean there isn't a lot for families to do here.

MAKE MEMORIES: 22 best family vacation spots in the U.S.

Fripp Island Resort has family-friendly amenities along with special packages for those traveling with kids. Kids can partake in Camp Fripp , which offers educational and creative workshops that include painting, tie-dye, and learning about area wildlife. There’s a swim-in movie night along with live entertainment throughout the week. If you want to get on the water, book a kayaking tour or a pontoon cruise. The world-class golf course is great for active adults looking to get some swings in, while weekly activities for adults, kids, and families keep non-golfers busy.

Dining options on this tiny island range from delis and cafes to the High Tide Pizza Food Truck and the Big Fripp Dipper Ice Cream Truck. Nothing screams summer like a good old-fashioned ice cream cone. Fripp Island Golf and Beach Resort also offers vacation rentals with a home-away-from-home feel where you'll have the convenience of a fully equipped kitchen and outdoor grill for BBQs.

4. Mackinac Island, Michigan

One of the most popular Midwest family vacations , idyllic little Mackinac Island is the quintessential U.S. island destination for active families. Visiting the thickly forested island is like traveling back in time to an era of car-free roads, horse-drawn carriages and stately Victorian homes. There are more than 70 miles of trails to explore either by bicycle or on foot, plus an adorable downtown and ample coastline for water sports. Great Turtle Kayak Tours provides lessons, tours, and rentals for kayaking, paddleboarding and snorkeling . Its most popular tour is of the underwater coastal caves.

FUN IN THE SUN: 11 best family beach vacations in the U.S.

Mackinac Island's Grand Hotel is generally considered one of the best family resorts in the U.S. , but an equally good option for families is Mission Point Resort . Mission Point's flexible kids club is available from 4:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., allowing parents ample time to enjoy dinner and some alone time. The club has activities to keep little ones busy and serves them dinner.

The resort also has an outdoor pool, a heated swimming pool, and two hot tubs. There’s a putting course, lawn games, tennis courts, and bicycles to rent. Head to Admiral Dave’s Arcade for a variety of games and entertainment, or take a history tour of the resort and the island. Don’t miss movie nights at the historic movie theater.

5. Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island, Maine

Home to Maine's Acadia National Park and the charming seaside town of Bar Harbor, Mount Desert Island is the sixth-largest island in the United States. This budget-friendly family vacation destination is popular with all ages because there's a lot to do year-round, but it's especially unique among island vacations in the U.S. because it's just as much fun in the fall and winter as it is during the warmer months.

SEASIDE ESCAPES: New England vacations: 11 charming coastal towns in Maine, Massachusetts, more

It’s also an excellent family vacation spot to witness and learn about wildlife and diverse ecosystems. Visit the Oceanarium and Education Center , which showcases a 29-foot lobster boat , nine tanks featuring local marine habitat, and a large touch pool full of sea cucumbers, crabs and other underwater species.

When visiting Acadia National Park, kids can participate in the park’s Junior Ranger Program and be sworn in as Junior Ranger. Acadia Quest is another fun initiative to encourage little ones to learn about national parks and explore nature. Simply download the app, go through a series of challenges, and document your experiences on social media. The national park has a variety of hiking and walking trails suitable for different levels. From the flat Wonderland Trail that opens to tide pools to the lush Jesup Path and Hemlock Path Loop , there’s a lot of Great Outdoors to explore on this U.S. island.

Stay at the Acadia Inn in Bar Harbor, where the rooms are spacious and affordable and hotel specials include the Kid's Kampout package, which provides tiny guests with a tent, lantern, and mat for an indoor camping experience. The hotel also offers bath kits that include tear-free shampoo and rubber duckies.

6. Vashon-Maury Island, Washington

Home to fewer than 11,000 full-time residents, Vashon-Maury Island is actually two islands in the Puget Sound connected by an isthmus built by homeowners in 1913. Make Vashon Inn your home base while visiting this U.S. island destination. Its four nicely appointed suites are roomy, comfortable, and set up like a private home or apartment with a kitchen, dining area, and living area. Larger families needing more space can rent two separate suites right next to each other.

UNUSUAL OVERNIGHTS: 13 best lighthouse hotels where you can spend the night

I also recommend Vashon Inn because it's just a three-minute walk to the island's sweet downtown, where you’ll find a delicious bakery , tons of restaurants , and cute shops selling local crafts. You can arrange for a horseback riding excursion that weaves through trails in an old growth forest, or take the kids on a morning hike to burn off some energy. There are many easy trails to explore. One of my family's favorites is the Judd Creek Trail , an easy 1-mile loop. Kayak and e-bike rentals are available on the island from Vashon Adventures , which offers tours and classes suitable for all ages.

If you’re interested in UFOs, visit the site of a purported UFO landing (commonly referred to as the Maury Island Incident) at the Vashon Municipal Airport. For something more terrestrial, plan a relaxing day looking for sand dollars and seashells at the beach. Visit a local llama farm (by appointment only) for a unique island vacation experience.

The variety of dining choices also make Vashon one of the best islands in the U.S. for families. In addition to a fleet of food trucks, you can't go wrong with Pure Organic Kitchen and Juicery for its speedy service and fresh ingredients. Vashon Pizza has an amazing Helena Greek pizza. Extra hungry? Go for the cheese bread with all the dipping sauces. And you'll regret it if you miss Glass Bottle Creamery , which makes some of the best ice cream in the world (I'm not exaggerating). The creamery sources its eggs, cream and milk from local farmers. Dairy-free and vegan options are also available.

7. Maui, Hawaii

You can't talk about the best islands in the U.S. without mentioning the Hawaiian Islands . They're all wonderful to visit, but Maui is my pick for families yearning for an unforgettable tropical escape with a well-earned reputation for kid-friendly activities and abundant natural beauty. From the moment you set foot off the plane, perpetual sunshine and sprawling mountains greet you.

HASSLE-FREE HAWAII: 10 best family resorts in Hawaii

Make the Grand Wailea your family's base camp on this island adventure. The 40-acre property has spectacular ocean views, spacious rooms and a memorable luau suitable for children of all ages to go along with its nine pools, 2,000-foot lazy river with waterslides, tennis courts, beachfront access and daily kids activities. Enroll the little ones in the Grand Passport Program , which is a guide that helps them navigate all the resort's fun offerings.

Explore the island via a Hele Wai Eco Reserve or hiking tour through the hotel’s concierge. These off-site tours offer families a kid-friendly exploration of Maui’s local flora and fauna, and opportunities for spotting wildlife. Or, rent a car and get out into the real Maui, exploring the island's scenic roads (you'll often see whales breaching off the coast), driving to the top of the towering Haleakala volcano, or taking in popular attractions such as the Maui Ocean Center and Maui Arts and Cultural Center.
