Introduction.

Lined paper, ruled paper or writing paper (whatever you call it) is a type of paper that features horizontal lines printed on it. The lines are aimed at separating the lines of your hand-written text in order to make it easy for you to write and then read the text. In comparison with the traditional blank piece of paper or dot grid paper, lined templates make your hand-writing look smooth and ordered.

These templates are often used for calligraphy, noting music, and writing. The simple reason why ruled templates are so useful and popular is that a lot of people aren't good enough at writing in a straight line without a guide. And it's no wonder why. Most of us are so used to typing the text with the keyboards that we totally forget how to write in the longhand.

Printable Writing Paper

Our free printable paper comes in a wide variety making it suitable for K-12 students and college students. To print out some lined paper all you need is to download one of the PDF templates we offer here.

We thought about this a lot: which templates to add in the beginning. So we started with basic lined paper, college paper and graph paper. Later on we will also add practice handwriting paper and kindergarten writing paper which are in high demand among parents.

6 Printable Lined Paper Templates

When choosing a quality writing paper template you should look for things like fine horizontal lines and a gray of red vertical line on the left. The former will guide the writer without interfering, while the latter will mark the margin of the page. We tried to keep these two things in mind when we designed the following printable lined paper templates.

3 Printable College Ruled Paper Templates

Unsurprisingly, college-ruled paper templates are mostly used by American high school and college students, hence the name. But this type of printable paper is also suited for office use. The main difference between college-ruled and wide-ruled or narrow-ruled paper is the space between the lines.

5 Printable Graph Paper Templates

An important element in establishing the quality of a graph paper template is the thickness of the grid lines. Ideally, the lines should be visible, but not distracting and a gray or light blue color is preferred. The most popular type, the quarter inch grid paper, is used in calculus while, more specialized ones like graph paper with axes for drawing functions. Printable Lined Writing Paper Template PDFs for School

Maybe today isn’t your day. Perhaps you left your backpack on the bus, your lunch on the counter, and your homework on your desk. Now you’re on the way to class, horribly unprepared for the school day ahead. Unfortunately I can’t help you get your backpack back, but I can at least give you the ability to take notes in class. All you need is access to a library printer, and one of these free printable lined writing paper templates. Download one of the 6 sheets below, and you’ll be able to take notes just like normal. Of course you’ll still need a pencil, but you can probably borrow one from a friend, or find one lying around in the hallway.

The lines on these printable lined writing paper templates are spaced 0.375″ apart. The first printable is your standard notebook paper sheet. Next we have a yellow notebook paper sheet, like you see in legal pads. The third printable notebook page has black lines. The fourth and fifth writing pages are landscape format.

Downloading Instructions: Click on a lined writing paper template. The corresponding PDF version will open in your browser. After if loads, save it to your computer or send it right to your printer.

ENCOURAGE YOUR STUDENTS TO PRACTICE WRITING WITHIN THE LINES

One of the first things that young children learn when they are learning how to write is to stay within the lines. This can be a challenge for some students, as they may be used to marking all over the page. However, it is important to encourage your students to practice writing within the lines, as it will help them to develop their fine motor skills and improve their handwriting.

There are a few ways that you can help your students to stay within the lines. You can start by having them trace the bottom line, middle line (dotted line) and the top line with their finger.

Review where the letters go on the line. One example can be to teach your students the letters that go in the sky, grass and dirt to help with letter sizing.

Make sure your students have plenty of practice time. Remember to practice lowercase letters and uppercase letters. Research indicates that practice sessions are necessary to improve handwriting.
