Descriptive Essay: My Favorite Teacher

My favorite teacher is my history teacher, and he is by far the best teacher that I have ever had. He has the ability to make a subject that many students find incredibly boring come to life through his enthusiasm and passion for history, and his love of being a teacher. Going to his lessons is something we look forward to, not dread, like we do with most other lessons.

It’s ever so funny to watch him get excited about something, which happens in every lesson. It’s easy to know that he’s getting excited because he begins bouncing up and down slightly in a way that no other sixty-something year old would ever managed without looking completely ridiculous. He has this dark (with more and more grey streaks these days), springy hair that lines the edge of his growing bald patch, and the hair bounces up and down with him like thousands of tiny little springs. Then, he takes on his whole new persona, often going into role and becoming the character or figure he is talking about, doing the voices, the actions, and parading up and down the room gesticulating wildly, but all the while there’s a gentle ‘bounce, bounce, bounce’, as though the springs are not just on his head but on the soles of his shoes too.

A teacher that doesn’t take himself too seriously always will be a big hit with teenagers, although he’s not afraid to impose his authority if he has to. I’ve only ever heard him properly shout once (although thankfully it wasn’t it me), but it isn’t an experience that I would like to repeat. When he lost it, the room suddenly became more silent than I’d ever known it to be before. We all sat slightly paralyzed, not even anting to breathe too loudly, because hearing such a jovial and jolly little man lose his temper was a huge shock. It certainly had the right kind of impact though, because he’s never needed to shout since.

It is actually this teacher that I have to thank for my love of history. In his lessons, history does not mean copying out of textbooks and writing pages and pages of notes. History is alive; history is something tangible, that you can see, hear and feel, and we can live it through dressing up and acting out scenes or taking trips to important places of historical interest. And although he’s getting on in years and may not be teaching for much longer, he will have an important place in history for many of his students, because there has never been a teacher able to bring a subject to life in quite the same way he does.

I am a student of 10th Class of a reputed private school. There are many great teachers in my school but everyone has that one teacher they are especially grateful to. Likewise, my favourite teacher is Mr Manish Khandelwal Sir. Manish Sir teaches us Maths, and he has a really attractive personality. He is very polite and humble and we all the students love him. He is also a person trusted the most by parents and teachers, as he constantly strives in creating a balanced environment in working hard at academics and having fun doing so.

Manish Sir is my favourite teacher because he is very humble, kind and polite. I love his way of teaching. He loves all students and doesn't believe in punishing them. He focuses more on conceptual clarity than burdening students with excessive homeworks. He never scolds students and never expresses his concerns in the form of anger. Instead, he talks to the students personally in a calm manner, in a way that helps us improve and wants to put in more effort.

He asks students to be honest with him and always gives equal attention to all the students. He never makes fun of any students and gives extra attention to the weak students. Whenever a student fails to understand any question or equation, he puts extra effort to make him understand, and never tends to lose patience. He calmly explains no matter how many times he has to repeat the same question or statement. He is focused on making us understand every concept with utmost clarity and that is the reason why all students love him.

One of my most favourite qualities of Manish sir is that he keeps track of every student in the class; how they are performing or what are the things they are good at. He constantly keeps an eye out for everyone in the class and helps them to improve themselves and guides them throughout the learning process. He is one of the best teachers in our school who keeps constantly motivating their students and guiding them in all spheres of life. Manish sir is especially known for not showing even the tiniest amount of favouritism. He treats all his students with an equal amount of fondness and love and cares for every one of us deeply.

He is very experienced and full of life. He tends to keep the entire class on a positive note and never exhibits any behaviour that deteriorates other people. Apart from being good at mathematics, he also preaches the importance of having sound knowledge in English and literature.

He loves reading books and always encourages students to spare some time to read novels instead of doing mindless activities like watching tv or playing video games. He also advises us to get more physical activity and play with other people our age and interact more as it would improve communication. He advises students to pursue their hobbies or interests. He understands students' problems and always provides them with a helping hand. He explains everything with examples and makes every concept so interesting to learn for students.

We students love to attend his class because he is very understanding. He covers each topic in detail and gives his full attention in class. He would be the first one to notice if even a single student loses track or starts dozing off. He would just suggest an alternative method or a simpler explanation instead of blaming the student for not paying enough attention to the class. He knows how to draw students' attention in class. He never assigns us too much homework, and after class, he provides us with regular assignments to assess our understanding of a particular topic.

The assignments are often designed to be more informative and research-oriented rather than just making us write down questions or paragraphs from the book and memorise them. By actually going through related articles and books, we gain a greater amount of knowledge and this way, we tend to remember what we learn for a long time as well.

In case if any student fails to do the assignment or performs poorly in a particular chapter, he doesn't shout at them but instead makes them understand the concept again. This way, we students understand that whatever he is doing is for our own benefit and we tend to work harder to improve ourselves. These are a few of the things he does that makes him different from the other teachers and appears approachable to everyone around him. I have never seen a humble and polite teacher like him, and one day I will try to be like him in my career.

Manish Sir is not just a great teacher but also my ideal person. He has all the favourite teacher qualities, and everyone loves him. I am lucky to be his student, and I will always follow his principles in my life. Even after leaving this school, he will remain my favourite teacher, and I will never forget him. I will always remember what he has taught me through example, and I will try to be a great person like him in the future.

Great philosopher Plato says, “A teacher is the physician of mind.” He leads the students from the dark valley of ignorance to the heights of learning and glory.

A scientist works on the physical body of man, but a teacher works on his mind and soul. That is why a wise man says,

A teacher must have the wisdom of Solomon, the patience of job and the courage of David.

Such a person is called an ideal teacher. He is the friend, philosopher, and guide of his students. He takes a personal interest in their studies and helps them at every step inside as well as outside the class. It is a great privilege and honor to be the student of such a teacher.

I have received lessons from a number of Teachers/Professors. All of them are able and efficient. I love and respect all of them. Out of those professors and teachers, I am much charmed by the towering personality of Mr. Shariq Javed. He has a broad forehead, fair complexion, sharp features, dark brown eyes, straw smooth hair and cheerful disposition with a smile on his face.

He is a very polite, urbane, well-dressed, well-mannered, soft-spoken, energetic and studious person.

Qualities of my teacher

He possesses all the sterling qualities of head and heart which make one an ideal teacher. I adore and like him for his good qualities of learning, teaching, patience, forbearance, fortitude, kindness, devotion and dedication.

He is highly qualified in the knowledge of the physical world. Coming of a noble family, he is a thorough gentleman.

He teaches us the subject of Physics. He is an unfathomable ocean and treasure of knowledge and wisdom. His method of teaching is so attractive and easy that we easily grasp and perceive his point. He has full command over his subject.

He analyses every topic and interprets each point thoroughly. He even briefs us the background of the topic and explains it with the help of examples. He has so sweet magical voice and charming way of teaching that the students wish for prolonging of his class.

Besides his particular subject, he also tries to develop our self-respect, build our character and inculcate in us the qualities of a great man. He guides and directs us on how to lead a successful life. He teaches us manners and etiquette.

She is the best teacher in the school and all the students like her.
She is a helpful and supportive person.
I like my class teacher very much because of her friendly and caring nature.
I love studying English because she teaches English and she is my class teacher.

The personality of my teacher

Ms. Meena Gupta is 46 years old. She is very smart and beautiful. She knows dancing too. She is very simple and always wear very simple clothes. She always looks sober. Her manners are pleasing and everybody likes her tone. She is a very soft-spoken person. She is a very experienced English Teacher.

Ms. Gupta has done her postgraduate degree in English and History. She is soft-spoken and very strict at the same time. The best part of her is that she does not punish physically. I have never seen her giving punishment in that way. She maintains discipline in her class very well. I find her positive influence.

She is also a board member of our school. She prepares children for various dance and music competitions. As an English teacher, she always encourages students to take part in various English debates and quiz. Under her guidance, our school has won many Awards and Prizes in different competitions and events. She is a true asset to the school.

It feels like we are watching a TV series. She has also studied English literature. She always tells us to read an English newspaper and novels. She always shares the benefits of knowing the English language. She shares her experience with her when she travels to different countries.

Her talks are very interesting. She always teaches in a story manner. We always feel listening to her repeatedly. Although she is simple and sober, she is a very humorous woman. Even some teachers get jealous of her and her popularity among the students.

Once she took us to the seminar of a very well known English teacher. She told us that the man in the seminar was her teacher. She introduced us to him. At that time, we got to know that our English teacher was a very good student in her college too. Her teacher shared interesting stories about our teacher’s college days.

Qualities of my teacher

She is very supportive and always helps needful students. She treats everyone equally. She put extra effort into weak students. I have always seen her busy in her work. She never wastes time. She takes extra classes whenever she gets a chance. We love the extra classes taken by her. She is very reputed outside the school also. She always helps needy and poor people. She takes care of every student in the class personally. She always shares feedback from the students to their parents. Even every student’s parents like her. Whenever the parents want to give feedback about the children, they always go to our class teacher instead of going to the principal.

She understands every student’s situation. Sometimes I fail to submit my homework. Without getting mad like other teachers, she always listens to my problem and situation. Without giving physical punishment, she advises me. She is a great human being. She is an ideal teacher in every student’s eye.

Whenever she teaches us, we feel blessed. We feel that the class should take a longer time. Because of her, 80 percent of students in our class get more than 90 marks out of 100.

She always suggests a new English book that comes in the market. She always shows us useful English language videos. I think I will not get a better teacher in my life than her. She is a true ideal. She always tells us not to forget her after school and we say we will not get out of the school in a humorous way. However, deep down, we feel that we are going to miss her. Her lectures, her way of talking, her valuable life lesson, everything.

I know that after passing the school, it will be tough to find a teacher like her. Still, many of her past students come and visit her very often. They tell us fascinating stories about their school life with our teacher. They tell us how they were annoying. Still, Ms. Gupta never gave physical punishment to them. I am sure that after school, I am not going to see anybody like her. She is ideal for everyone. I have never seen such an inspiring and motivational personality in my life to date. I admire her and always will try to be like her and follow lessons taught by her. She has a special place in every student’s heart. We all are thankful to her. I will never forget such a valuable contribution to my life. She will be my favorite teacher for my entire life.

My favourite teacher – Essay 2

My favourite teacher is Mrs. Usha, our Science teacher. She is also our class teacher. In fact, everyone in the class likes her very much. Mrs. Usha knows her subject very well. Under her guidance and patient care, even the weakest students have improved their Science.

When I entered standard Eight I used to find writing Science and chemical formulas which is very difficult, but Mrs. Usha made everything sound so easy that now I have no difficulty in writing formulas.

Mrs. Usha is very polite and kind. She is also firm and does not tolerate indiscipline. She doesn’t give us much homework. Yet we do well in Science. I have improved just because of her.

She also conducts a lot of formula games and quiz in class to memorize the formula in easy manner. She made Science subjects so much easy, that I play with the formula.

She uses many pictures and charts to explain things to us. She also tells us interesting stories. This is the part we like best.

Her explanation gives us a good idea about the subject. We all like to attend her class, and we rarely miss her class. Mrs. Usha make a chapters, like a story and present over us, the way she explain us is so interesting that we forget that it is a part of the lesson.

Next year when we go to the ninth standard, she will not be teaching us Science, and all of us shall miss her. But she has laid the foundation for us that will remain with us all our lives.

I’m glad that I got such a wonderful teacher who helped me a lot. She is like my mother who help me a lot.

When you are assigned a descriptive essay, you’ll normally be given a specific prompt or choice of prompts. They will often ask you to describe something from your own experience.

Make use of figurative language, sensory details, and strong word choices to create a memorable description.

Use figurative language

Figurative language consists of devices like metaphor and simile that use words in non-literal ways to create a memorable effect. This is essential in a descriptive essay; it’s what gives your writing its creative edge and makes your description unique.

Take the following description of a park.

This tells us something about the place, but it’s a bit too literal and not likely to be memorable.

If we want to make the description more likely to stick in the reader’s mind, we can use some figurative language.

Here we have used a simile to compare the park to a face and the trees to facial hair. This is memorable because it’s not what the reader expects; it makes them look at the park from a different angle.

You don’t have to fill every sentence with figurative language, but using these devices in an original way at various points throughout your essay will keep the reader engaged and convey your unique perspective on your subject.

Use your senses

Another key aspect of descriptive writing is the use of sensory details. This means referring not only to what something looks like, but also to smell, sound, touch, and taste.

Obviously not all senses will apply to every subject, but it’s always a good idea to explore what’s interesting about your subject beyond just what it looks like.

Even when your subject is more abstract, you might find a way to incorporate the senses more metaphorically, as in this descriptive essay about fear.

Choose the right words

Writing descriptively involves choosing your words carefully. The use of effective adjectives is important, but so is your choice of adverbs , verbs , and even nouns.

It’s easy to end up using clichéd phrases—“cold as ice,” “free as a bird”—but try to reflect further and make more precise, original word choices. Clichés provide conventional ways of describing things, but they don’t tell the reader anything about your unique perspective on what you’re describing.

Try looking over your sentences to find places where a different word would convey your impression more precisely or vividly. Using a thesaurus can help you find alternative word choices.

However, exercise care in your choices; don’t just look for the most impressive-looking synonym you can find for every word. Overuse of a thesaurus can result in ridiculous sentences like this one:

On Sunday afternoons I like to spend my time in the garden behind my house. My cat crosses the garden nimbly and leaps onto the fence to survey it from above. From his perch he can watch over his little kingdom and keep an eye on the neighbours. He does this until the barking of next door’s dog scares him from his post and he bolts for the cat flap to govern from the safety of the kitchen.

With that, I am left alone with the fish, whose whole world is the pond by my feet. The fish explore the pond every day as if for the first time, prodding and inspecting every stone. I sometimes feel the same about sitting here in the garden; I know the place better than anyone, but whenever I return I still feel compelled to pay attention to all its details and novelties—a new bird perched in the tree, the growth of the grass, and the movement of the insects it shelters…

Sitting out in the garden, I feel serene. I feel at home. And yet I always feel there is more to discover. The bounds of my garden may be small, but there is a whole world contained within it, and it is one I will never get tired of inhabiting.

On the last day of my nursery school, I started crying at the very thought of leaving her and having a new teacher. I had fallen sick due to crying for hours together. I skipped my food. My parents were not able to do anything. They called for her to make me feel better. My teacher travelled a few miles across the city and reached the hospital. She, then, said that she would never forget any of her students and asked me to write to her. I started writing to her every week from then on and she replied to every letter of mine. Till date, I look at my teacher as my second mother and she guides me in all my difficult situations.

There are many activities given at the end of every lesson and she makes us participate in all of them. Not only that, but she also encourages us to take part in drama and poem competitions. Since her first day, she made a rule for us.

All of us has to speak in English during the English period. Every student tries to talk in English even if the sentence sounds improper. She has taught us to never laugh at each other’s mistakes. This has improved our spoken English in a great way. Now, we are able to talk in English with more confidence.

Another great quality of hers is that she treats every child equally. After explaining the lesson to us, she asks each one of us different questions about the chapter. Sometimes, we also love to talk about our personal lives, like what do we like about our lives, how our parents work hard for us, and things like that.

When we get confused or need an emotional support, she is the best person to talk to. Her advice and suggestions are always positive. Last month, on teacher’s day, all the students wished her and brought presents for her. We also sang a song to her.

I made a beautiful greeting card for her and a red rose with it. She accepted it with a smile and thanked us for everything. I feel grateful to have such a gentle and great teacher in my life who supports me in every way.

Actually, one of his children is my age and I know him through tennis practice because he comes to train with us sometimes. I like him because his sense of humor gives a good learning experience for the students. He is a math teacher and he is very good at what he does. Students tend to make fun of him because of his accent but he make fun of it himself, which gets even funnier. This teacher has been a great mentor to me and other student ever since we joined high school. I met him on a personal level one day after class when I needed clarification on a topic I had not quite understood. The teacher was kind to me and guided me through it. Since then, he took his own initiative to do follow-ups on me and I became really good in math due to his efforts.

Coincidentally, he also coaches my tennis team and we meet out on the field. We have won several awards as a tennis team under him. I feel connected to the teacher through his mentorship and he has become like a school parent to me because whenever I have an issue, he is free to help me out.

He has also been a role model to me through his way of doing things. He is dedicated to his work and he is an achiever. Through following his footsteps, I have been able to dedicate myself into studies and sports, which has helped me to achieve my goals.

New method teachers: the tutors under this model are student-oriented. They are more concerned about their learners and their various levels of understanding. They accept and promote contributions in class unlike the old method teachers. New method teachers encourage the inquisitiveness of their students.

Attributes of My Favorite Teacher:

Personally, I see my teacher as a mini-god because he leaves his mark on me. He influences my life in ways that enables me affect changes wherever I find myself.

He is a perfect example of the new model teachers. Basically, he is student-oriented. In the classroom, he employs the Eclectic mode of teaching (this is the combination of all the modes of teaching “discussion mode, play way mode, role play mode, question mode” so as to facilitate standard learning).

He comes into the classroom; starts the lecture with a recap of what was discussed in the previous class, gives room for the students to ask questions that arose from the last class, answers them and then starts a new topic.

To start a new topic, he starts with a mind-capturing introduction that attracts the attention of all students. Once he is through with introducing the topic, he gauges our reaction in order for him to know if his students are on the same page with him or left behind.

Then, he moves on to the discussion mode of teaching, whereby he throws questions to his students and accommodates both relevant and irrelevant answers, at the end of this model, he sieves through the answers provided, pick the relevant ones and add his own iota to it, he also always applaud the courage of all who answers his questions.

He moves either into the role play method or the play way method, here he selects students to either act out the lessons from the day’s topic or summarizes what he has taught for the day. The use of this particular mode enlightens the students more on the topic being discussed.

Finally, he moves over to the questions and revision mode, where he personally go through all he has taught over the course of the period. During this mode, he entertains questions from students on their personal areas of difficulties. Occasionally, he gives assignments to back up his teachings.

During his teachings, he pays close attention to the expression, mood, sitting posture and carriage of his students. This tells him when his students are lost, sad, worried, hungry, sick, away in dream land or simply tired.

Once he is done processing the information gotten from our faces, he either finds a way of brightening the mood of his students, bringing them back from the dream world, or ending his class without breaking his stride or alerting the whole population of students to what is currently going on.

It is only normal for a human being to reflect his mood whenever he is talking or interacting, but my teacher hardly ever allow his bad, horrible moods interfere with his teachings.

Outside the classroom, my teacher is approachable, fatherly, and jovial. He entertains all and no one is excluded from his open arms, smiles and affections.

He is a good counselor who is always ready to help me out of my tight corners. He gives twenty first century advises in a fatherly way.

Although, due to my teachers lenient ways with students, some students tend to be lazy, disrespectful, stubborn or rude. He has a way of being firm, maintaining class control while teaching.

In conclusion, my teacher has all the attributes and more of a new method teachers. He is capable of combining all modes of teaching, he is compassionate, passionate, and friendly. From my interactions with him, I can confidently say that he is one of the best teachers around.
