Additionally, these benefits apply to all passengers made on a booking under the member’s name. To maintain your membership, you must meet the above criteria each year.

easyJet has 2 fare types: Standard and Flexi. Similar to other low-cost airlines, there are no separate cabins, only different standards of seating.

The airline’s fare pricing changes regularly according to demand (and more often goes up than down), so its best to purchase your flights as soon as possible to avoid higher fares .

Standard Fare

easyJet’s Standard fare only includes your seat and 1 under seat cabin bag . Any checked luggage, reserved seats, or additional cabin baggage must be purchased separately.

Flexi fares allow passengers to make free flight changes (restrictions may apply), and include the following benefits:

  • Speedy Boarding
  • Fast track security (selected airports)
  • Free reserved seat selection near the front of the plane

Inflight Inclusions, Amenities, & Seat Specs

easyJet only offers 1 cabin type — due to the short duration of its flight routes, there are limited inflight amenities. Standard services of a short-haul carrier are available, such as refreshments and gift items to purchase from their Bistro & Boutique magazine.

Although there are no separate cabins, you can choose from preferred seating options that offer some extra perks.

If you select a Standard fare ticket, then you have the option to select seating for a fee (detailed in the extra fees section) in the following categories:

  • Standard seats: Choose your seat toward the middle and back of plane
  • Up Front seats: Choose a seat in rows 2-6 (or 2-5 on some aircraft). Includes an additional personal item, dedicated bag drop, and Speedy Boarding. (This seat selection is free for Flexi fares and easyJet Plus members.)
  • Extra Legroom seats: Includes all benefits of Up Front seats, but at a seat located in the middle or at the front of the plane with extra legroom.

easyJet currently has 2 types of aircraft: the Airbus A319 and the Airbus A320.

Airbus 319: 156 passengers

Airbus A320 (version 1): 180 passengers

Airbus A320 (version 2): 186 passengers

easyJet does not specify seat width or pitch for individual aircraft and seating types, but it does state that seats have a minimum pitch of 29”/72.5cm and a minimum width of 17.5”/44cm.

easyJet Seating Plan

Unlike its rival Ryanair , easyJet is focused on improving customer satisfaction as one of its main corporate initiatives. In their 2018 Annual Report (see page 28), easyJet states they improved customer satisfaction from 71% to 71.2%.

This is based on the results of their customer satisfaction survey — although the change is minimal, at least it’s going in the right direction!

Having said that, customer service seems to be the biggest gripe passengers have with the airline, especially dealing with the call center. easyJet seems to be trying to embrace online chat to take the pressure off their long call waiting times, but many customers report that this service is an automated system that makes it difficult to get some answers.

That said, Tripadvisor features some great reviews from happy easyJet customers, with a traveler rating of 66% “Excellent” or “Very Good,” 16% “Average,” and 18% “Poor” or “Awful.”

No official statistics can be found on the UK’s Civil Aviation Authority website .

Consumer Rankings, Ratings, Etc.

There are many different rating and review sites out there, so we’ve highlighted a few of the most popular.

Skytrax Ranking : 3 Star Airline (out of 5)

Skytrax Customer Rating : 6/10

easyJet Skytrax

Tripadvisor Airline Review Rating : 3.5/5 (average from 40,710 reviews)

Kayak Customer Rating: 6.6/10 (average from 6,932 reviews)

AirHelp.com Overall Rating:   5.66/10 (Assesses on-time arrivals, quality of amenities, and how well an airline resolves compensation claims)

Safety and Performance

easyJets has a 4/7 safety record as awarded by AirlineRatings.com . This assesses whether the airline has an IATA Operational Safety Audit Certification, combined with information from the world’s aviation governing bodies plus government and crash records.

easyJet does not have an IATA Operational Safety Audit Certification, which brings down their score according to AirlineRatings.com. However, the airline has had no fatalities in its flight history and hardly any accidents.

Awards and Notable Mentions

Business Traveller Awards 2018: Best Low-Cost Airline

Buying Business Travel Awards 2017:  Best Short Haul airline

Charity Partnership

easyJet Charity Partnerships

easyJet has partnered with the children’s charity Unicef since 2012 and has raised over £10 million. Donations are encouraged from customers onboard through spare change initiatives, which are used to support Unicef’s global vaccination efforts.

Local donations are also made to charities nominated by employees, including cash donations and flight vouchers. easyJet also supports emergency appeals through onboard collections for tragic incidents, such as the Manchester terror attack and Grenfell Tower fire.

Final Thoughts

You’ve never going to get glitz and glamour flying easyJet, but what you will get are reasonably priced flights, flexibility with seating and baggage options (great if you’re traveling light), and generally punctual arrivals and departures.

easyJet has a diverse route offering, serving some of the bigger and busier international airports (unlike its rival Ryanair, which is known for flying into smaller regional airports).

If you fly regularly with easyJet, then it’s worth investing in their easyJet Plus membership. With seat selection fees up to £29.99 per way, you would nearly cover your membership fee in 3 return flights.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the baggage allowance for easyjet.

All passengers are allowed 1 under seat cabin bag for free . An additional personal item to go under the seat in front of you is free for Flexi fares, Up Front or Extra Legroom Seats, and easyJet Plus members.

Standard carry-ons must not exceed 56cm x 45cm x 25cm, and the free cabin bag (if applicable) must be smaller than 45cm x 36cm x 20cm.

EASYJET HELPS THE NATION FIND THEIR WINGS

easyJet ‘pilots’ talking billboard and aptitude test in new pan European recruitment campaign to find the next generation of pilots

  • New nationwide online pilot aptitude test shows people if they could have what it takes to become an airline pilot
  • With more than 90% of airline pilots being men, the campaign targets female audiences to encourage more women to join the profession
  • Innovative new ‘talking billboard’ features a real-life easyJet pilot to provide insights on the career and debunk myths about the job
  • easyJet is looking for 200 aspiring pilots to join its Generation easyJet Pilot Training Programme this spring and hundreds in the coming years with the aim of tackling stereotypes and encouraging more people to consider a career in aviation
  • Reaction Speed test: https://easyjetpilot.maptq.com/?loginid=oxywoci5x7fk
  • Sense of Direction test: https://easyjetpilot.maptq.com/?loginid=zdo45dcpk8zv

A new nationwide pilot aptitude test has been launched today by easyJet to encourage Brits to find out if they have what it takes to become a pilot, following new research revealing half of Brits (50%) don’t know what qualifications are needed to become an airline pilot and learn to fly a commercial jet.

The online test assesses some of the key skills required to become an airline pilot and has been designed to encourage more people to consider the career. With no prior aviation knowledge or flying experience required, easyJet is giving people the opportunity to test their aptitude for some of the key skills needed to be an airline pilot, like sense of direction and reaction speed.

To launch the campaign, easyJet is also ‘piloting’ a talking billboard - featuring a real-life easyJet pilot strapped to a billboard in Central London today.

The test and ad are part of a new first-of-its-kind pilot recruitment campaign from the airline, ahead of the opening of its 2024 Pilot Training Programme in the coming weeks. The airline’s pilot training programme takes aspiring pilots with little to no flying experience to operating a commercial passenger jet in around two years with its intensive, industry-leading training course.

The interactive campaign aims to debunk prevalent myths and misconceptions about the job, after research from easyJet found that 57% of those polled believe that a university degree is required to become a pilot, and 80% think that 20/20 vision is a necessity, when neither are in fact needed to apply.

The new test is being rolled out online targeting female audiences, in a bid to encourage more women to try the test and consider the job. The new campaign forms part of easyJet’s ongoing drive to encourage more women to join the profession, as more than half (59%) of British adults surveyed still believe there are misconceptions that a pilot is a job for a man. New research from the airline also revealed twice as many men (32%) considered becoming a pilot compared to women (15%).

Captain Sarah Ackerley was spotted answering questions from the public, providing advice and insight into her career, and encouraging more people to take the test via the QR code on the billboard.

Ann McKenzie was one of those who took up the challenge - she said: “I’ve always loved travelling and seeing the world, but I didn’t think I’d discover that I have the right skills to become a pilot on my Wednesday morning commute. I might have to think of a career change after getting such a strong test result and quizzing a female pilot!”

The interactive ad was launched after a recent survey of 2,000 British parents and their children from the airline showed that visible role models play a critical role in people’s job ambitions, particularly for young people.

When asked why they believed that pilot is a role for men, the top reason given by children was that they had never seen a female pilot (41%) and of those young girls surveyed, nearly half 47% said they believe a pilot is a job for a man.

easyJet Captain Sarah Ackerley, said: "Tackling gender stereotyping within aviation has been a long-standing mission for easyJet and I’m excited to be part of this latest campaign that’s allowing people to get a real insight into what skills are really important to do this job, and encourage more women into the profession. It’s an immensely rewarding career that I’m proud to champion and I hope by more people taking our new interactive test, they can challenge themselves to discover a talent they never knew they had and I hope to see them flying with us in the future.”

The new campaign builds on ongoing work by easyJet to inspire the next generation of aviators and encourage more women into the career. easyJet has been tackling this industry challenge for a number of years through initiatives including recruitment campaigns, its pilot school visits programme and Summer Flight School.

As a result, today 7.5% of easyJet’s pilots in in the UK are women, compared to the UK industry average of 6.5% with around 300 women including 99 Captains now flying for the airline, which will continue its efforts to see these numbers further grow.

To apply to easyJet’s Pilot Training Programme, aspiring pilots need to be aged 18 or over by the time they begin training and have a minimum of 5 General Certificate of Secondary Education (GCSE) of Grade C or above (or equivalent), including Mathematics, Science and English language – no higher qualifications or degrees are required.

BA, easyJet and Wizz Air resume flights to and from Israel

Virgin Atlantic to restart services in September, almost a year after airlines suspended flights owing to Gaza war

Major European airlines have started to resume flights to and from Israel. Wizz Air, easyJet and British Airways are now all flying to Tel Aviv, and Virgin Atlantic is planning a resumption this year.

Wizz Air said on Wednesday it had restarted flights to Israel from six airports in March, and planned to resume operations on further routes during the next three months. This will include the resumption of flights from Gatwick to Tel Aviv, as well as 16 other paused routes.

Most big airlines suspended services to Israel and some surrounding areas after the start of the war in Gaza in October. They are only now returning.

BA resumed flights to Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion airport on Monday, but with a reduced service of one daily plane four days a week. EasyJet restarted its services to Israel on 25 March, returning to its prewar schedule from London Luton, Amsterdam, Berlin, Basel, Geneva and Milan.

In January, easyJet revealed that the Middle East crisis had cost it more than £40m in lost trading as flights were suspended and demand weakened.

Ryanair has also been significantly affected by the war, and revealed on Wednesday that it had been forced to cancel 950 flights since October. The airline resumed flights to Ben Gurion at the start of February but suspended them again at the end of the month after a dispute over which terminal it could use.

Ryanair complained that the airport had closed its low-cost terminal 1, which meant the airline was being forced to use terminal 3, where the fees are higher.

Virgin Atlantic has said it plans to resume flights to Israel in September after initially earmarking March for a restart. The airline said: “After careful consideration, we have taken the difficult decision to extend our pause on flying to and from Tel Aviv up to and including 4 September 2024.

“We sincerely apologise to our customers for any inconvenience caused and our teams will be in contact with anyone affected to discuss their options, which include rebooking to a later date or a full refund.”

after newsletter promotion

Virgin Atlantic posted annual accounts on Wednesday that showed a loss of £139m for the year to 31 December, an improvement on the £206m loss it made in 2022. It said continued cost discipline and cash protection meant that it expected to return to profitability next year.

Oliver Byers, Virgin Atlantic’s chief financial officer, said the continued losses were largely due to interest charges incurred on loans taken on during the pandemic, as well as £100m of debt repaid to lenders in 2023.
