How to Write an Essay on How You Spent Your Summer Vacation

Last Updated: January 4, 2020

Writing an essay on how you spent your summer vacation is a classic way of starting a new school year. Think about this essay as an opportunity to tell a story about your summer while reflecting on the experiences you had. Choose a memorable moment you had this summer and start crafting your essay, giving as many details as possible.

Choosing a Topic

Step 1 Look back on mementos you kept from the summer.

  • These can also make nice visual aids if you are asked to present your essay.

Step 2 Make a list of the things you’ve done over summer vacation.

  • A list might be full of things like babysitting, attending a camp, working at a local store, taking a road trip, etc. This type of brainstorming can help you pick major events and other important moments from your summer.

Step 3 Write about a memorable moment.

  • For example, maybe you spent your summer traveling around Japan. Think of a memorable moment you had while traveling — maybe you walked up a mountain in the pouring rain — and write about this moment, adding lots of details.

Step 4 Create an outline...

  • For example, if you're writing about spending time at the beach, your outline could remind you to talk about the sandcastle building contest you entered, the dolphins you saw, and the ice cream you ate every day.
  • Details might be what the other sandcastles looked like, how far away the dolphins were, and what kind of toppings were on your ice cream.
  • Your outline is just to help you organize your thoughts — it can be written by hand or typed.

Crafting the Essay

Step 1 Focus on your feelings, interactions, and thoughts.

  • Instead of saying that you worked in a pet store, ate a PB&J sandwich, and walked home every day, talk about more than just your actions. You could talk about which pets are your favorites to work with, how it felt to eat the same sandwich every day, or what you thought about on your walk home.

Step 2 Use your 5 senses to explain your experiences.

  • Using sensory details like these will help your readers visualize and engage with your writing. These help your audience make your experiences feel real to them, even though they weren't there.

Step 3 Describe activities you did in each place you went.

  • For example, instead of saying “I went to the beach this summer,” try saying “I spent my summer swimming in the frigid water at Virginia Beach.” The more details you can provide, the more engaged your reader will be.

Step 4 Choose precise, descriptive adjectives.

  • Instead of saying “the burger was really good,” you could say, “the burger was juicy and filling.”

Step 5 Revise and edit your essay carefully.

  • Don't just rely on spellcheck. It will help catch some errors, but it will miss some things, too.
  • Ask a parent or other adult to read over your essay too, if you'd like.
  • Setting your essay aside for a little while will give you a fresher perspective when you go back to revise it.

Structuring Your Essay

Step 1 Start with a strong introduction.

  • Make sure your conclusion doesn’t just copy the introduction.

My last holiday was a five-day trip to Prague in the Czech Republic. I know Prague well because I lived there when I was at university, more than ten years ago.

Instead of staying in a hotel, I stayed with one of my old friends. It was so much fun, and a little bit like my old life. I wanted to do all the same things I did in my university days, so I visited the university. It has changed a lot and looks more modern. I also went to the supermarket near my old house. I loved seeing all the different foods. I was really happy to find my favourite cheese and chocolate biscuits but they were a bit more expensive than I remember!

We did some touristy things too. We walked up beautiful Petrin Hill and around the castle. The views of the city are amazing up there. We walked across the historic Charles Bridge. My friend's flat is very near the TV Tower so we saw the famous baby statues climbing up it. Those things haven't changed, of course.

1. Try to make your writing interesting for the reader. To do this, you can make it personal with your own memories and experiences.

2. Use adjectives to add detail to your descriptions.

3. Write clear and simple sentences and organise your ideas in short paragraphs. Give each paragraph a different topic.

4. Use so, but, and, because and other linking words.

Where was your last holiday?

I want you to know that I am very happy and enjoying my vacation quite a bit. The destination on this vacation has been the Colombian Caribbean coast, We arrived two days ago, this is a very nice experience. Yesterday I discovered the window to the world that is located in Barranquilla, as well as the boardwalk, they are very warm places but above all very visited, as the afternoon fell I went to visit some of my husband's brothers. Tomorrow we will get up very early to travel a few kilometers and be able to visit Cabo de la Vela, in La Guajira, we will leave at 6 am, because we must be in Uribia Guajira at 3 pm, there the tour guide will be waiting for us, who will be the one in charge of directing this adventure. I also had the opportunity to visit Cartagena de Indias and its beautiful beaches, I really liked getting to know the beach, the sea and the people who live there, But what I liked most was being able to visit Cabo de la Vela and learn a little about the reality of the Wayuu culture, being able to enjoy the beautiful landscapes and sunsets that this beautiful place offers.

My last was holiday three-week trip to Fez in Morocco. Fez it’s my hometown so I know it well because I lived there for 26 years. I went to visit my family there and I stayed at home, every day I was invited by my sisters and brothers, they made me delicious dishes and we had a good time together. I’ve been seeing my friends every day in the café, we’ve been seeing football matches and we’ve been talking about different topics. In this holiday I made many things important for me, I had driving courses to be confident when I’m going to buy a car, in the same time I had English courses.

My last holiday was a three-day trip to Thua Thien Hue in Vietnam. I always want to go there, so in the summer of last year, I decided to take a trip to Hue with my family.

We booked a small hostel near Hue Walking Road. We stayed in a twin room, which was clean and had full amenities. The owner was very friendly; he showed us good restaurants, attractions, and how to deal with sellers in the market. We tried local foods such as Bun Bo Hue, Banh Xeo, Banh Bot Loc, etc. The food in Hue is cheap and amazing; I thought that I could eat it all day!

We did some touristy things too. We visited Hue Capital and had a chance to learn more about Vietnam's history. The architecture is very majestic and beautiful. We also went to Thien Mu Pagoda. It is one of the most sacred temples in Vietnam, so we prayed for health and happiness and wished everyone good luck. In the evening, we walked across the historic Trang Tien Bridge. It was so beautiful at night; there were a lot of people walking there.

It was three amazing days. I felt so relaxed and hope to visit more places in Vietnam.

My last holiday was a two-day trip to Baguio in the Philippines. I had lived there before for five months. So I decided to go back for just a visit on my holiday. Unfortunately, there was heavily raining as we got off the bus. Otherwise, getting a taxi was super hard, and we were waiting for around an hour. Fortunately, I got home safely and I made so much fun with my friends. I visited the old places that I often did because it made me happy and refresh. In conclusion, I had so much fun spending my last holiday in Baguio.

I remember last year when I went with friend to the beach in summer. My Lastsummer holidays was 2days and 3 nights trip to Ngwe Saung Beach in Myanamr . Ngwe Saung, is a beach resort located 48 km west of Pathein, Ayeyarwady Region, Myanmar. In 2014, the town of Ngwesaung had 10,732 people. The beach is 5hours drive with no traffic away from the principal city of Yangon. Ngwe Saung is well know for An unspoilt 15 kilometres stretch of silvery sand and modern amenities have made Ngwe Saung a popular destination for less budget conscious tourists from Lower Myanmar. I booked for our stay at a hotel near the beach, name was "Grand Paradise Hotel ". My friend and i prepared everything we needed on our trip as light food and soft drinks to have on the way to the hotel. And also we prepared necessary clothing for the sea, sun cream and some essential medicines. After 5hours of driving we arrived the hotel at 12PM afternoon and went to our rooms to rest change clothes and take all what we need to go to the beach. This Hotel is near the beach, all services was good and room are cleaned, wide and nice. We put our bags on the table and went to swim in the sea and then went out for lunch that my friend ordered from a fish restaurant . The Crab ,Lobster and fish was fresh and tasty and we enjoyed our meal very much. After lunch we sat under the canopy enjoying the sea view, refreshing breaths ,listening to music and playing fun games. OH really nice Ngwe Saung beach Myanamr.

My last holiday was far away in time in different reasons. We were at black sea coast on September so there where not so much other people. We was drinking a wine that was cheap there and going some excursions

My last holiday. Last summer, in particular on the last weekend of June, I decided to visit Granada, an amazing city in Spain. I visited Granada for the second time with my family, my wife, and two daughters. I was so happy because I visited Granada sights, especially Alhambra Palace, and Civilization Museum. We arrived at the hotel by bus at 11 a.m. The hotel was wonderful and clean, and the food they offer was delicious. My family really liked the traditional typical dishes of Granada, in particular the dish named Baella. During the holiday, I met some of my Spanish colleagues and they invited us to visit their house which is located in a nice village in the city suburb. Really, I liked this place for the large landscape, calmness, and the kind people who live in. On the fifth day of our holiday, we walked around the city and saw the old city which has been built above the mountain. So, you can see the whole city from above it. Despite the enjoyment that we have got, the negative thing about that holiday was that we spent so much money and also many friends need to buy some things from there, so I bought some souvenirs and I hope that I can keep one for myself to remind of that divine place. By and large, this holiday was great and unforgettable thanks to my Spanish friend, Gaspar, who provided me with a Guidebook which makes my trip easy and coy.

My last holiday was four days on São Miguel dos Milagres with my family. We stay on the beach house of my grandpa. There is a pool, and four rooms in that. There we go to the beach, to some interesting restaurants, to a beach clube and to an ice cream shop. I love that travel and i'd love go back to São Miguel dos Milagres.

On the first weekend in March, we took an amazing trip to Barcelona. We went by train from Atocha station and the journey lasted two and a half hours.

When we arrived at the historic Barcelona Sants station, we took the metro to Plaza de Tetuan, which is where we had the apartment. We left our baggage and went to visit the city centre, Las Ramblas, Plaza Catalunya, La Boqueria Market, Paseo de Gracia, etc. On Sunday, we saw the beautiful Sagrada Familia which is my favourite landmark. Later, we went to the incredible Nou Camp stadium to see the Barça game against Valencia. After the game we visited the official store and did some shopping but everything was very expensive. On Monday, before returning to Madrid we went back to the Nou Camp to take a guided tour of the trophy room, changing rooms, benches, and the VIP box.

At the end, we went to the apartment to take the suitcases and so, we took the metro to the Sants station where we boarded the high speed train back to Madrid.

I go to Thailand for a camping holiday, It was fun I go caving on the first day, I see many bets are sleeping on top of the cave.(no time to finish)

How to Write a Summer Vacation Essay

Summer break is a great time to kick back, relax and enjoy yourself and, if you’re lucky, to go on an awesome trip! But how can you translate your amazing vacation into a narrative essay for English class or work it to fit a common application prompt? Here’s some tips to help you out:

Save Mementos From Your Summer

Even if you’re not the sentimental type, make sure to document your summer travels. Take pictures, write diary entries, save train stubs. This is the best way to ensure that you’ll remember your summer well enough to look back and write about it later.

Write an Outline Before Writing Your Essay

Regardless of whether you spent your summer break in Madison, Wisconsin or Madrid, Spain, you should plan out what you’re going to write before diving in. Make a list of what you’ve done over the summer so that you can later narrow down a focus for the essay itself. Keep in mind that the best essay topics aren’t always on the most exciting activities an essay about getting stuck in traffic on the way to the airport on the way to Denver could work better than an essay on hiking the Grand Canyon and looking out at the incredible view.

Be Specific

Since you’re going to keep a record of your trip and come up with an outline before writing your essay, you should be able to put some detail into your essay. Be as specific as possible when it comes to your word choice. If you’re talking about some gelato that you ate in Italy, don’t say that it was “delicious.” Instead, say that it was “creamy and chocolatey, with a note of vanilla.”

Focus on Feelings About Your Trip, Not What You Did

If you spent the summer on the beach in Cape Cod, you shouldn’t write about what you did. You should write instead about how you felt while there. An essay that reads “I went to beach, then had lobster for dinner” is not quite as exciting as one that goes, “As I went for a walk on the beach, I thought about how lucky I was to be able to enjoy nature.” Feelings translate better into text than events, and you should try to place those feelings into context.

Stick to Writing About a Small Moment

With any essay you write especially a short one it’s important to focus a narrow moment in time. Don’t write about your entire week in Paris. Instead, write about the moment you got lost in the city at midnight and fumbled your way home in the dark. You don’t have to pick a particularly glamorous moment from your trip, but you should pick one that meant something to you.

Edit Your Essay Carefully

The shorter the essay, the more important precision is. Regardless of length, make sure to carefully read over what you’ve written to make sure every sentence conveys the message you most want displayed. The editing process matters just as much as the writing process, even if it seems less so.

500 Words Essay on Summer Holiday

The concept of summer holiday.

The summer holiday, a period of respite and relaxation, is a universal concept that transcends geographical and cultural boundaries. It’s a time when the relentless pace of life slows down, allowing individuals to break free from their monotonous routines and immerse themselves in activities of their choice. The concept of a summer holiday is deeply ingrained in our societal fabric, providing a much-needed break for students and adults alike.

The Historical Perspective

The tradition of summer holidays has deep historical roots. In agrarian societies, children were needed on the farm during the summer, which led to the school year being structured around this requirement. Over time, as societies modernized, the summer holiday became a time for relaxation and leisure, a break from the rigors of academic pursuits. The tradition has evolved, but the core idea of a summer break as a period of rest and rejuvenation remains.

The Psychological Benefits

From a psychological perspective, summer holidays are crucial. They provide a respite from the stress and strain of academic or professional life, allowing the mind to relax and rejuvenate. This period of relaxation can lead to increased productivity and creativity upon return to work or school. Furthermore, a change of scenery and routine can provide fresh perspectives, leading to personal growth and development.

Summer Holiday Activities

The activities people engage in during their summer holidays are as diverse as the individuals themselves. Some prefer to travel, exploring new cultures and environments. Others may choose to engage in hobbies or passions that they otherwise do not have time for, such as painting, reading, or gardening. Still others may use this time to engage in volunteer work or internships, using their break to contribute to society or gain professional experience.

The Societal Impact

Summer holidays also have a broader societal impact. They stimulate the tourism industry, leading to economic growth and job creation. They also promote cultural exchange, as people travel and interact with different cultures. Moreover, the summer holiday season often sees a surge in community events and festivals, promoting social cohesion and community spirit.

The Future of Summer Holidays

In an increasingly global and digital world, the concept of the summer holiday is evolving. With the advent of remote work and learning, people are no longer confined to specific time frames or locations for their holidays. This flexibility is likely to redefine the traditional concept of a summer holiday, potentially leading to more personalized and meaningful holiday experiences.

In conclusion, the summer holiday is a multifaceted concept with deep historical roots and significant psychological, societal, and economic implications. As we move forward, it will be fascinating to see how this tradition adapts to our changing world. Despite these changes, the essence of the summer holiday as a time for relaxation, exploration, and personal growth will likely remain unchanged.

Summer Vacation Essay 6 (400 words)

I just have happily completed my summer vacation this year. I was very happy and enjoyed it a lot by forgetting all the pressure of school days. My parents kept this plan hidden from me to give me a surprise. And I was really surprised when I heard about the plan for my summer vacation. It was a long tour of all India’s cultural heritages and beautiful tourist places.

I have captured all the memorable moments on my smartphone to keep them with me forever. My sweet family members are also captured in the clicks. We went swimming, morning walk in the cool natural air, wandered on the roads full of greenery, played football on the ground, and did many joyful activities in between the tour whenever we got time. I have noticed and tried to learn something good from the people of all cultures and traditions of India. I was excited to join the cricket academy from the end; however, when I heard about the plan from my parents, I shouted, jumped many times, and forgot about cricket.

I am very happy because my inner soul is satisfied. During the tour, I have also done a lot of shopping with my parents at various places in India. I think it was the best summer vacation of my life. Now, we are back at home and started doing my project work. I have to help my sister and brother complete their holiday homework. Two weeks are left more in opening our school. After completing our school holiday homework, we will go to the home town to meet our grandparents. We can go there by bus because it is quite a short way of 200 km. Later, we will go on a short tour of Pradarshani and nearby historical places of the village. We will eat lots of mangoes, bael, papaya, litchi, banana, cucumber, and kakadi, including other summer fruits and homemade ice cream, at my grandparent’s home.

There is also a lake where migratory birds come every year. We will enjoy seeing them in the early morning and evening. This summer vacation is full of huge fun for me, but I have to take care of my health too so that I cannot fall sick and join my school properly.

Spain holiday rules in 2024 for Brits travelling to Benidorm, Alicante, Majorca and more

If you're planning a summer holiday in Spain this year there are some important new laws you should be aware of.

People holidaying in places like Benidorm, Alicante, and Majorca face paying a hefty price if they don't follow certain rules - and an unwanted fine could ruin your holiday.

Luckily, the travel experts at Slingo have made a guide for 2024 so you can have fun in the Spanish sun without getting in any trouble.

READ MORE: Tenerife holidaymakers issued warning over £1.2k fine for common mistake

Dom Aldworth from Slingo told the Express: "Everyone knows that the British public love a holiday, and now that it's nearly spring, UK tourists will be starting to think about where they want to travel to this summer. However, before you pack your suitcase, it's important to educate yourself on any travel rules, especially as new regulations are announced every year. This way you can enjoy your summer holiday, whilst staying safe and being respectful to local laws."

As reported by Bristol Live , here's some key advice to take note of.

If you're in Benidorm, which is in the Costa Blanca area, you shouldn't go swimming at night or hang out on the beach from midnight till 7am. If you break the rule, which applies to swimming or resting and playing on the beach, you could get fined between £650 and £1,020.

The experts say: "This rule has been introduced to reduce the risk of any swimming-related accidents during the times when lifeguards are not available. In order to not waste the resources of local emergency services, it's best to keep your beach activities to the daytime."

In addition, if you're thinking about taking your clothes off on a beach in Spain that isn't specifically for nudists, you might want to think again. You could get a fine of £560 if you do.

But, there are lots of beaches for nudists in the holiday spots of Spain, "so if you wish to sunbathe naked, there are places to do this respectfully".

In Benidorm, it's also not okay to drink alcohol or smoke cigarettes on the beach. If they catch you, you might have to pay fines of £650 and £1,700 respectively.

The gov.uk website tells British people going to Spain this summer to only use taxis that are registered. If you use an unlicenced taxi service, you could get fined up to £510.

Travel experts say: "This is due to transport risks, so make sure you book your taxi or airport transfer through a licensed firm."

Noise pollution

In Alicante, on the Costa Blanca, they're being strict with tourists who make too much noise. If you play loud music on the beach or talk too loudly where you're staying, you could get a big fine.

The experts said: "These regulations are tighter versions of rules the city council implemented in March 2019, and could cost Brits up to 30,000 euros (£25,667). Everyone wants to have a good time on holiday, but you can have fun and respect others at the same time."

Unlicensed parties

The travel experts said: "If you're travelling to Majorca or Ibiza this summer, be wary of where you're partying. Authorities are closing in on any unlicensed or unruly parties and will issue a fine to anyone involved in the organisation and marketing of the event, as well as attendees. This could result in a £25,000 fine."

These parties often take place in villas and private homes, lacking proper safety measures such as emergency exits, capacity limits, and trained security personnel that official venues are required to have.

Five Takeaways From Nikole Hannah-Jones’s Essay on the ‘Colorblindness’ Trap

How a 50-year campaign has undermined the progress of the civil rights movement.

holiday summer essay

By Nikole Hannah-Jones

Nikole Hannah-Jones is a staff writer at the magazine and the creator of The 1619 Project. She also teaches race and journalism at Howard University.

Last June, the Supreme Court ruled that affirmative action in college admissions was not constitutional. After the decision, much of the discussion was about its impact on the complexions of college campuses. But in an essay in The Times Magazine, I argue that we were missing the much bigger and more frightening story: that the death of affirmative action marks the culmination of a radical 50-year strategy to subvert the goal of colorblindness put forth by civil rights activists, by transforming it into a means of undermining racial justice efforts in a way that will threaten our multiracial democracy.

What do I mean by this? Here are the basic points of my essay:

The affirmative-action ruling could bring about sweeping changes across American society.

Conservatives are interpreting the court’s ruling broadly, and since last summer, they have used it to attack racial-justice programs outside the field of higher education. Since the decision, conservative groups have filed and threatened lawsuits against a range of programs that consider race, from diversity fellowships at law firms to maternal-health programs. One such group has even challenged the medical school of Howard University, one of the nation’s pre-eminent historically Black universities. Founded to educate people who had been enslaved, Howard’s mission has been to serve Black Americans who had for generations been systematically excluded from American higher education. These challenges to racial-justice programs will have a lasting impact on the nation’s ability to address the vast disparities that Black people experience.

Conservatives have co-opted the civil rights language of ‘colorblindness.’

In my essay, I demonstrate that these challenges to racial-justice programs often deploy the logic of “colorblindness,” the idea that the Constitution prohibits the use of race to distinguish citizens and that the goal of a diverse, democratic nation should be a society in which race does not determine outcomes for anyone. Civil rights leaders used the idea of colorblindness to challenge racial apartheid laws and policies, but over the last 50 years, conservatives have successfully co-opted both the rhetoric and the legal legacy of the civil rights era not to advance racial progress, but to stall it. And, I’d argue, reverse it.

Though the civil rights movement is celebrated and commemorated as a proud period in American history, it faced an immediate backlash. The progressive activists who advanced civil rights for Black Americans argued that in a society that used race against Black Americans for most of our history, colorblindness is a goal. They believed that achieving colorblindness requires race-conscious policies, such as affirmative action, that worked specifically to help Black people overcome their disadvantages in order to get to a point where race no longer hindered them. Conservatives, however, invoke the idea of colorblindness to make the case that race-conscious programs, even to help those whose race had been used against them for generations, are antithetical to the Constitution. In the affirmative-action decision, Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr., writing for the majority, embraced this idea of colorblindness, saying: “Eliminating racial discrimination means eliminating all of it.”

The Supreme Court’s decision undermines attempts to eliminate racial inequality that descendants of slavery suffer.

But mandating colorblindness in this way erases the fact that Black Americans still suffer inequality in every measurable aspect of American life — from poverty to access to quality neighborhoods and schools to health outcomes to wealth — and that this inequality stems from centuries of oppressive race-specific laws and policies. This way of thinking about colorblindness has reached its legal apotheosis on the Roberts court, where through rulings on schools and voting the Supreme Court has helped constitutionalize a colorblindness that leaves racial disparities intact while striking down efforts to ameliorate them.

These past decisions have culminated in Students for Fair Admissions v. Harvard, which can be seen as the Supreme Court clearing the way to eliminate the last legal tools to try to level the playing field for people who descend from slavery.

Affirmative action should not simply be a tool for diversity but should alleviate the particular conditions of descendants of slavery.

Part of the issue, I argue, is that the purpose of affirmative action got muddled in the 1970s. It was originally designed to reduce the suffering and improve the material conditions of people whose ancestors had been enslaved in this country. But the Supreme Court’s decision in the 1978 Bakke case changed the legally permissible goals of affirmative action, turning it into a generalized diversity program. That has opened the door for conservatives to attack the program for focusing on superficial traits like skin color, rather than addressing affirmative action's original purpose, which was to provide redress for the disadvantages descendants of slavery experienced after generations of oppression and subordination.

Working toward racial justice is not just the moral thing to do, but it is also crucial to our democracy.

When this country finally abolished slavery, it was left with a fundamental question: How does a white-majority nation, which wielded race-conscious policies and laws to enslave and oppress Black people, create a society in which race no longer matters? After the short-lived period of Reconstruction, lawmakers intent on helping those who had been enslaved become full citizens passed a slate of race-conscious laws. Even then, right at the end of slavery, the idea that this nation owed something special to those who had suffered under the singular institution of slavery faced strident opposition, and efforts at redress were killed just 12 years later with Reconstruction’s end. Instead, during the nearly 100-year period known as Jim Crow, descendants of slavery were violently subjected to a dragnet of racist laws that kept them from most opportunities and also prevented America from becoming a true democracy. During the civil rights era, when Black Americans were finally assured full legal rights of citizenship, this question once again presented itself: In order to address the disadvantage Black Americans faced, do we ignore race to eliminate its power, or do we consciously use race to undo its harms? Affirmative action and other racial-justice programs were born of that era, but now, once again, we are in a period of retrenchment and backlash that threatens the stability of our nation. My essay argues that if we are to preserve our multiracial democracy, we must find a way to address our original sin.

COS Takes Its Spring/Summer 2024 Collection On a Roman Holiday

See all the looks from the show here—plus, which pieces you should shop now.

Every item on this page was chosen by an ELLE editor. We may earn commission on some of the items you choose to buy.

The London-based brand is known for elevated classics and laidback pieces that look as chic in meetings as they do at happy hour—and this season is no exception. The 33-look show included included pieces from both COS’s main and Atelier lines. Under design director Karin Gustafsson, the slate fused fluidity and structure. Voluminous garments billowed in neutral hues of stone, black, white, and sand, with bold pops of red. Textiles alternated from translucent to woven to denim , all of which were expertly tailored, even if the effect was airy and oversized. Details and silhouettes got experimental at times with pleated shoulder pads, textured leather, and hand-painted accents.

The show was held at Corsie Sistine, a restored portion of Santo Spirito, a 15th-century hospital—Europe’s oldest, in fact. Editors, such as myself, Italian fashion critics with notebooks in hand, and global influencers decked out in the brand’s designs ducked out of the grey rainy afternoon and into the ancient building lined with frescoes courtesy of Umbro-Roman artists of the 1400s.

“I love the androgyny,” said Pamela Anderson from the front row, observing that this collection is for those whose style transcends gender. “I’m drawn to COS’ true minimalism and simplicity—and some punk British elements,” she finished. Timeless sets that lend themselves to a mix-and-match capsule wardrobe and steal-from-his-closet menswear were foundational to the show.

That punk element Anderson alluded to came in the form of sporty sunglasses , chunky silver jewelry , open knits, and mesh, which carried into the details of the very pair of pointed toe slingbacks she wore . Hoods were a common theme, notably adding a fresh a take on the classic trench coat and adding a bit of street style to the collection.

Of course, COS also debuted a variety of new iterations of its viral quilted bag, which you’ve likely seen tucked under the arm of many a fashion girl.

A portion of the collection is available to shop now in-store and online, with additional drops (including Atelier) coming over the next few weeks. Below, see ELLE’s curated shopping edit from the spring/summer line.
