How do I register for orientation? You need to log-in to your Admitted Student Portal to register for an open orientation date. Admitted Student Portal is sent via email to all deposited students about a week after your commit/deposit in CUNYFirst. Please check your spam/junk folders. Haven't see your portal? I applied for Fall, why did my admission change to Summer?

Change to Summer is completely normal! Students who wish to kick-off their Hunter studies earlier have the option to do so in the Summer, which is why the change happened. You do not need to start classes in the summer if you were admitted for Fall semester, it is OPTIONAL. You were admitted for the semester you applied for and can start then.

Application Fee Waiver Requests

Since you have to submit a CUNY Application to apply to Hunter, we at Hunter are unable to offer any fee waivers. It’s a CUNY application, so only CUNY has the ability to waive fees. Freshman Applicants CUNY allots each high school in New York State a number of application fee waivers. High schools distribute application fee waivers to students who have applied to CUNY. So please speak with your HS College Office to see if a waiver is possible. You can also reach out to CUNY directly stating your case to see if a waiver is possible. General Freshmen or Macaulay Application Status Students who submitted Macaulay or the General Freshmen application can only check if the application is complete. General Freshman and Transfer Admissions Interview Hunter College does not offer interviews for general applicants to the college. The review is conducted based on everything outlined in the How to apply section of our website. Macaulay Honors for First-Year Students Some students may be invited to interview, not all. Being invited or not invited to an interview is not an indicator of being selected for the program. Freshmen Honors Scholar Programs Scholar programs review applicants solely on the admission documents submitted with your application and the scholar program application submission. There is no interview process for scholars. Transfer Scholarship Applicants Scholarship committee reviews applicants solely on the admission documents submitted with your application and the scholarship application submission. There is no interview process.

Housing Community Each residence hall is staffed with current students (RAs) who offer a variety of student programming. Q: What is DegreeWorks? DegreeWorks is an online advisement tool that displays your progress toward completing your degree. You will need your CUNYFirst log-in credentials to access DegreeWorks Q: Why can't I see my transfer credits in DegreeWorks? You will see an update in DegreeWorks 2-3 business days after your credits are posted in your CUNYFirst. Changes made to CUNYFirst typically take 2-3 days to be uploaded into DegreeWorks. These changes include transfer credit evaluation, newly registered courses, grade changes, and changes to transfer credit equivalencies. Q: I am a new student, my major declaration has not been posted in CUNYFirst, how can I see what to register for? You can use “What If” located on the side bar of your DegreeWorks worksheet. What-If will show the courses you currently have completed as well as courses that are in progress and will apply them to different majors and minors. First you must select the Major or Minor and the current catalog year. Some majors also have concentrations, be sure to pick a concentration and an additional catalog year for the concentration. Can I send documents via Naviance?

Hunter College is a part of the City University of New York family. You can send documents via Naviance to CUNY. All documents that are sent via PDF delivery to "CUNY - Hunter College" through services like Parchment, or Naviance, eTrascript, etc., are delivered to CUNY processing center. One processing center for all CUNY applicants. They get thousands of documents daily, so it usually takes about 6-8 weeks for the documents to show up in CUNYFirst. All documents that are sent to Hunter College email usually take about 6-8 weeks to show up in CUNYFirst as well.

Does Hunter College have online degrees?

I applied to a specific major, why did it change to "Undeclared"? When can I declare my major?

The major change to "undeclared" is completely normal. Students are given the opportunity to change their course of study if desired. What is the SAT/ACT requirement?

Hunter College will be test optional for the Fall 2023 – Spring 2025 semesters. We strongly encourage students submit their SAT/ACT scores to help provide additional context to their application, especially students applying for merit scholarship programs (Freshman Honors, Macaulay etc.). However, students who do not submit scores will not be disadvantaged in the admissions process. Admission to Hunter is based on a comprehensive review of a student’s academic record including overall grade point average, strength of curriculum, and other factors such as co-curricular activities, community involvement, evidence of leadership, and special talents. How do I submit documents for my application?

Please review the "Send Documents" portion of the www.cuny.edu/apply website to ensure you send the correct documents and to the right place: www.cuny.edu/apply All documents that are sent via PDF delivery to "CUNY - Hunter College" through services like Parchment, or Naviance, eTrascript, etc., are delivered to CUNY processing center. One processing center for all CUNY applicants. They get thousands of documents daily, so it usually takes about 6-8 weeks for the documents to show up in CUNYFirst. All documents that are sent to Hunter College email usually take about 6-8 weeks to show up in CUNYFirst as well.

Should I be taking the SAT/ACT to prepare for Fall 2023 admission?

On campus housing.

How do I apply for housing? Fall housing application will be available in March. In the meantime, please fill out the Housing Interest Form to receive alerts/updates about the exact application release date. Housing Interest Form >> Do not forget to check the Living@Hunter housing website for the most up to date information. When will I know if I was offered housing? Housing is offered on a rolling basis to those who have filled out the interest form and submitted the application. Offers will begin to be sent out in April. What if I have to commit by May 1st, but still don't have a housing offer? Students who apply for housing before April 1 will receive housing notifications by May 1. All applications for housing received after April 1 will receive offers on rolling basis, which may be after May 1. Plan accordingly.

How do I check my financial aid status?

Go to CUNYFirst, and navigate to your Student Center page. On the left hand side you will see a 'Finances' tab. Under this, is a 'View Financial Aid' option. Click on Hunter, and it should give you all of the details about your financial aid package.

How do I defer my admissions to another semester?

To defer your admission please accept our offer of admission in CUNYFirst, submit a deposit to reserve your seat (if required), and wait for the Admitted Student Portal. You will be able to defer in the Admitted Student Portal.

How do I apply?

Take a look at the "How to apply" section of our website. The page lists required documents, application timelines, and deadlines for you to review. Check out "How to apply" page >> Go Hawks! The deadline has passed, can I still apply? Hunter will continue to accept application on space availability basis after the deadline. Applications submitted after the deadline will be reviewed in date order after the application is "complete", which means all required documents have been received. Do not delay, apply as soon as you can. No way to tell when the class will be full, unfortunately.

Error when registering for classes, what can I do?

There could be different reasons why you are seeing an error message, please review info for possible solutions below: Error: You have no met pre-requisites for the course >>> Transfers: Please review your Transfer Credit Evaluation in CUNYFirst. if the pre-requisite course did did not transfer as an equivalent to the pre-requisite and you believe it should, you need to contact the department for secondary review of the course with your syllabus. >>> Non-Degree Students: Please review "instructions on how to register" in that very same email that notified you of your acceptance and look at Step 6. You do not get a transfer credit evaluation as a non-degree student, thus, any pre-requisites you may have completed would need to be shown to the department to get approval for registration. They would not be on your record at Hunter automatically as a non-degree student Error: You do not have an enrollment date Please review the "How do I find my enrollment date?" question in the dropdown list Error: You have a hold on your record. Undergraduate Admissions

Procedures for undergraduate admissions in music.

Admission to all music major programs requires prior admission to Hunter College . You can begin the online application process by going to Hunter’s Undergraduate Admissions page and choosing your student status (Freshmen, Transfer, Non-degree to Degree, Second Degree, etc.).

Students must take three examinations before declaring a music major:

• Music notation, rudimentary theory, and basic aural & keyboard skills. This examination is prerequisite to MUSTH 220 (Music Theory 1). Students who do not pass it must take MUSTH 101 (Music Theory Fundamentals) or learn the material on their own, then repeat the examination.
• Elementary music history and literature. This examination is prerequisite to MUSHL 205 (Music History 1). Students who do not pass it must take MUSHL 101 (Introduction to Music) or learn the material on their own, then repeat the examination.
• Performance audition on an instrument or voice. This examination is prerequisite to MUSPF 401 (Private Instruction in Instrument or Voice). Students whose performance skills fall below New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) level 2, equivalent to about one year of study, must take MUSPF 211-212 (Voice 1-2), MUSPF 213-214 (Piano 1-2), or private lessons at their own expense (without credit), then repeat the examination.

Prospective majors should consult the Music Department's Undergraduate Adviser as soon as possible to discuss these examinations and any prerequisite courses they may need before beginning the major. All students who enter a Hunter music program with previous college credit in music theory, ear training, music history, or ethnomusicology must take a placement examination before beginning their course work. For more information on placement exams, contact the Undergraduate Music Adviser .

Admission to this program is conditional on passing an audition demonstrating a high level of skill in performance. Students interested in this program should normally audition before entering the College. If they are unable to do so, they may begin as 42-credit majors and transfer to the 60-credit program if they pass the audition the following semester. These programs are open to all students who have passed the examinations described in "The 60-credit B.Mus. Program."

Students are admitted to this program only after they have completed at least 60 credits of college work, including at least 29 credits in music (three semesters of music history, four semesters of music theory, and four semesters of musicianship). At least 12 credits (including six in music) must have been taken at Hunter College, and students must have a cumulative G.P.A. of at least 3.5 with no grade of less than B in any music course. They must have passed the Music Department's piano proficiency examination and an audition-interview demonstrating reasonable mastery of an instrument or voice. In addition, they must either have passed the L.A.S.T. (Liberal Arts and Sciences Test) or fulfilled the following requirements of the School of Education:

• Completion of developmental courses
• Grade of B- or better in ENGL 120 or a 200-level English course
• Application, on-site essay, and interview with the School of Education
• Proof of negative result on TB test
• Maximum of 6 credits taken with CR/NC grades, or else calculation of those grades as C/F for computation of grade-point average.

Students wishing to take courses without being enrolled in a degree program may register on a non-degree basis. All credits earned on this basis may be applied to a degree if the student subsequently transfers into a degree program.

Application Procedure and Fee

Applicants may apply to only  one  program for any given semester; please decide which of our programs is the most appropriate before filing the application. The deadline for applications varies by program. The earliest deadlines are January 15 for fall admission and September 1 for spring admission. Applicants are responsible for submitting their application and supporting application materials by the  deadline  for their desired graduate program.

Applying for admission to a graduate program at Hunter College is a fully online process. Hunter College offers a web-based application for graduate degree admission which can be accessed at:  http://app.applyyourself.com/?id=Hunter-G . Applicants are required to complete the core application form, upload a statement of purpose, upload scanned/electronic transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions previously attended, and complete any program-specific supplemental forms. Required letters of recommendation must be submitted online by the recommenders through the online application system. ( application requirements)

Admitted Students Submitting Official Transcripts

Admitted students must submit official copies of all academic transcripts. Official transcripts will be compared to the unofficial copies submitted along with the application. In the event of discrepancies or false reporting of any information Hunter College reserves the right to change/withdraw its offer of admission.

Applicants admitted to the School of Arts & Sciences, School of Education, and School of Nursing  must submit all official transcripts to:

Applying: Additional Materials

Applicants to some graduate programs may be asked for additional materials and may be interviewed by a member of the program to which the application is made.

Application Fee

A $75 application fee is required of all applicants. Applications submitted without the fee cannot be processed.  You can pay your application fee via credit card online when you are ready to submit your online application form or you can mail a check or money order to the Bursar’s Office.  Please make checks or money orders payable to Hunter College. If a check is written for you by someone else, be sure your name appears on the face of the check. Those currently attending Hunter as graduate non-degree students who are applying for degree status need not pay this fee. As the application fee is devoted to the administrative cost of processing all applications, it is not refundable under any circumstances, regardless of the outcome, the date of filing, the time of review and final decision, or, if for whatever reason, the application is withdrawn.
