Today more people are travelling than ever before. Why is this the case? What are the benefits of travelling for the traveller?

Over the last couple of decades, a growing number of people have started to travel, something that is unprecedented in human history. This essay will look at the reasons for this, along with its benefits for travellers themselves.

One of the major reasons for this is the lower cost of air travel. The emergence of no-frills airlines such as WizzAir and AirAsia have made it much cheaper for people to take short-haul flights, enabling many people to travel who previously wouldn’t have been able to afford it. Even the cost of long-haul flights has come down due to increased competition amongst airlines.

Not only have flights become cheaper, but the market for these flights has become wider. A few decades ago, travellers were mostly from Europe and North America, but demand for travel has since increased in new markets such as East Asia and the Middle East and it’s not uncommon to find large numbers of Chinese tourists in European travel destinations.

This trend undoubtedly has many benefits for the travellers themselves. First of all, people get exposed to new experiences, such as different kinds of food and different attitudes to life. For example, people who travel to Thailand come across a much slower and gentler way of life than they would find at home.

Travel also helps people forget the stresses and strains of everyday life. Lying on a beach reading a book while listening to the sounds of ocean waves lapping up against the sand is a great way to relax and refresh oneself.

To conclude, cheaper and wider access to air travel has helped to fuel the increase in travel, something which brings benefits such as exposure to a different way of life and the chance to relax.

International English Language Testing System (IELTS) is a standardized test that non-native English speakers appear for to study or migrate to a country where English is mostly spoken. Candidates appearing for IELTS may be asked a question on tourism essay IELTS in Writing Task 2. Candidates will have to write IELTS essay on tourism in a minimum of 250 words. The examiner will assess your abilities to respond to the topic by providing an opinion and justifying it with arguments. The essay may require you to summarize information, outline any problems, discuss the premise, or identify solutions. You will have to be logical while giving reasons and examples in the essay.

Answer:

Several individuals still feel that tourism leads to strained relationships between countries instead of helping visitors get acquainted with new regions and cultural aspects. In my opinion, tourism is still a harbinger of positive experiences and strengthens shared empathy and cross-cultural bonds despite a few unfortunate incidents hogging newspaper headlines at times.

The main reason behind people advocating against tourism as a means of global peace and understanding is linked to sudden issues that snowballed into major controversies. Let us take a fictional example. Suppose residents belonging to a particular country get ridiculed and culturally attacked in the country where they live and work. In these cases, the percentage of such incidents, if mapped closely, would be overwhelmingly low to justify mass protest. Yet, some of these unfortunate incidents often mushroom into bigger problems. Several organizations may call for a boycott of the country, while some countries may stop sending tourists altogether. These reactions, while natural, prove to be irrational, since the host country will always deal strongly with perpetrators of violence. After things settle down and positive steps are taken by the authorities towards boosting health and safety, tourists will return in higher numbers. This is just an illustrative example and shows that irrational and bigoted reactions can never take away from shared empathy, mutual trust, and the power of good relationships between countries.

Visitors’ experience and interactions with local citizens in other countries are mostly based on discovery, warmth, and friendliness. This contributes immensely to building knowledge and insights regarding new cultures, traditions, habits, daily life and beliefs, and the history and development of any nation. Tourism is the biggest driver for global cooperation, interaction, mutual understanding, and cultural exchange. Every country and its citizens wish to create a positive impression or image of themselves in the minds of visitors. To conclude, I will state that people should keep these aspects in mind when they are traveling or considering the relevance of tourism. Rising above prejudices is the need of the hour.

Furthermore, demand for transportation goes up sizably, leading to a sharp plunge in air quality levels at popular cities/regions.

Secondly, global tourists also come with risks of spreading contagious and infectious ailments throughout the country. Several viruses often spread in this manner in several nations. Suppose there is an outbreak of any infectious disease in a particular country and this coincides with the arrival of tourists in large numbers from another nation. People may start blaming these people and their government for their woes, however unjustified it is. This example illustrates why many nations are firmly against the development of global tourism any further.

Yet, several solutions may help in bettering the current scenario. Governments should continue awareness measures for enlightening tourists on their visits to various countries. They should release stringent dos and don’ts or codes of conduct while making provisions for health tests and documentation to minimize infections risks. Travelers should be incentivized for responsible waste disposal, usage of public transport, and undergoing medical check-ups at airports and international borders. A travel pass or some other rewards can be given to ensure that most international travelers adhere to these new regulations.

To conclude, negative perceptions about global tourists are still widespread in mainstream society. However, the situation can be turned around with the above solutions.

How to promote tourism in India essay?

Tourism is the lifeblood for any nation, not just from an economic and employment perspective, but also from a socio-cultural point of view. India, in particular, has a thriving tourism sector, while boasting of immense diversity and a rich historical and cultural legacy that has charmed the entire world. Tourism also adds considerably to our GDP as a nation, increasing our economic capabilities, adding to community income, enhancing employment and entrepreneurship and facilitating invaluable cultural exchange with people from other countries. However, I believe, that there should be a four-pronged strategy towards promoting tourism in India, with a view towards retaining its appeal for foreign travellers.

I suggest a renewed emphasis on digital marketing. Governments can consider new-age technologies like virtual walkthroughs and 3D views in order to promote major landmarks. More marketing initiatives digitally will help us reach out to wider audiences, thereby giving the tourism industry a major boost.

I also suggest a more localized focus where States and regions have the autonomy to market their landmarks, cultures and cuisines. This will help them come up with innovative offerings for tourists.

I feel that heritage structures, monuments, parks, forts, water bodies, etc. may be outsourced to responsible government/private agencies or companies for maintenance. It can be made a part of the CSR activities of companies, thereby ensuring their preservation. We also need to build better infrastructure including roads, washrooms and other public amenities.

Tourism is one of the most important facets to our nation and also ensures how we are perceived globally. With the latest technology, an innovative mindset and zeal to excel, we can certainly promote our tourism sector more effectively.

Why tourism is important essay?

Tourism is one of the most essential economic and cultural pursuits for any country. It not only adds to the country’s revenues but also fosters knowledge exchange and helps countries get global exposure in turn. I believe that tourism is not only important but indispensable for the continued progress of any country.

Tourism is a big contributor to the GDP of the nation. It ensures higher revenues for the Government and local communities alike. It puts more money into the hands of local communities who are dependent upon the sector. Tourism also ensures the creation of more employment opportunities, while boosting sectors like hospitality, travel, transport, culture, food and beverages and more. Tourism is also a big stimulant of entrepreneurship in the country.

Tourism builds positive relationships between countries. It facilitates cultural exchange and exposure. It enables the growth of infrastructure, cultural activities and ensures the continued preservation of priceless treasures and natural landmarks which are big draws in a country.

I would like to conclude by stating that tourism is immensely important for any country. Governments and authorities should encourage tourism in order to be a part of a peaceful and united global community of nations.

Should countries encourage tourism essay?

Tourism is one of the biggest global sectors today, accounting for a major chunk of global revenues, employment and socio-cultural events or experiences. The question is, should countries encourage tourism? I would like to opine that they should encourage the growth of tourism for multiple reasons, which are enumerated below.

First and foremost, tourism enables cultural exchange and bonds between nations. The world gets to know more about a country’s cultures, unique experiences and heritage. This enables more knowledge gathering and dissemination, while contributing immensely towards scholarship and research at the same time.

Second, tourism contributes significantly to the country’s coffers by way of revenues. It also contributes towards generating more employment and entrepreneurship opportunities while driving various product and service-based industries alongside. Tourism also has the potential to transform entire communities and help them embrace sustainability. It is with these opinions that I would like to conclude by saying that in today’s fragmented and increasingly digitized world, the age-old adage Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam holds greater relevance. Today more people are travelling than ever before. Why is this the case? What are the benefits of traveling for the traveller?

Each year, millions of people visit other countries and spend their leisure time there. Actually, the number of travelers is growing year after year. There are many reasons behind this trend and the most important among them is the rise in the income and living standards of people.

People are traveling because they can afford it. Thanks to advances in technology, air travel has become considerably cheap; as a result, more and more people can visit foreign countries. In addition, people have become more curious. They read about foreign countries on the internet and watch programmes on television. This exposure makes them want to visit those countries so that they can experience everything first hand. They want to taste exotic dishes they have never eaten before and celebrate unique and colourful festivals they have only seen on TV. Traveling, after all, is the best way to learn and discover new things.

Traveling benefits people in many ways. To start with, it is a good way for people to learn about the world. When they travel they get exposed to various cultures. They get to learn new languages and interact with new and interesting people. This exposure makes them tolerant and enhances their world view. Take myself as an example. I have been in France for a year as an exchange student. During this period, I have learned a great deal about the French culture. For instance, I have visited lots of museums and galleries in Paris and as a result, I now appreciate beauty in a more sensitive way. In addition, I have become more appreciative of differences. I now understand that customs, traditions, languages and skin colour are all unique to a country and need to be respected. In short, my travels have made me a better and more tolerant person. Every traveler has similar stories to share.

To conclude, more and more people are traveling because of their natural curiosity and also because they can afford it. In my opinion, this is a positive development because it promotes learning and understanding.

Let us try to analyse IELTS writing task 2 by one of the candidates preparing for IELTS:

A lot of people are travelling nowadays than before.

What are the reasons for this and what are benefits of travelling?

Candidate’s Response:

Travelling has become more economical and easy today than compared with the older days. In contrast to this, earlier period making a travel plan itself, used to be a tedious task as it included many factors like firstly setting up a budget, arrangement of various place bookings etc.

Today, people are travelling more than ever before due to easy connectivity and reach of many places. Moreover, people have more flexible jobs so they can take time out from their busy lives and and just have a weekend get away to any nearby places. Travelling has also become more affordable due to entry of many multinationals in the country and also mainly due to the reason of too much of competition. So everyone tries to give a better deal to the customer either by offering discounts or by giving an all in all customized package.

Besides the above points, people have also become more open minded in terms of exploring new places. They are willing to spend money and time to visit their favourite destination.

Lately, what we have seen that the trend a lot people travel alone and have started exploring new places. They stay with the locals of that particular place, eat what local people eat and explore the local area around. Due to this, they understand the local culture without spending too much money. Travelling to distant places makes people more independent also.

To sum up, we must all take out time to travel around different places big or small, luxurious or not and find our own space in this world.

Some people think that parents should teach their children how to be good members of society. Others, however, believe that school is the best place to learn this. Discuss both views and give your own opinion.

Some people believe that children should be taught by their parents about how to function as useful members of society, while others believe that sending children to educational institutions is the best way for them to study this. Although the latter opinion can be beneficial in some cases, I believe that family upbringing plays a more important role in educating children to be good parts of the community.

Schools can be considered suitable places for children to learn to be good citizens. With standardized educational methods, schools can foster children’s cognitive development so that they are able to contribute to society in the future. For example, Trung Vuong school and Vinschool are well known for having nurtured successful alumni such as Professor Ngo Bao, Professor Nguyen Hung who have devoted their talents to the development of the country. However, these people only represent a small fraction of the total number of students attending schools, and thus sending children to schools cannot be the best method of educating them to be good members of society.

I believe that parents play a more important role in teaching them how to be good citizens. In Vietnam, the average class size is 20 students, which makes it difficult for educators to provide proper schooling for each student. One to one lessons at home, on the other hand, allow children to progress faster. Furthermore, parents form stronger bonds with their offspring and thus, it is easier for them to shape children’s personalities at an early age. For example, by telling stories such as Robin Hood, Cinderella before bedtime, parents can instil a sense of compassion and integrity into them. These children are likely to become good members of society when they grow up.

In conclusion, although sending children to schools can be seen as a way of teaching them how to be good citizens, I believe that domestic upbringing has a bigger impact on determining who they are in the future.

There is an increasing trend around the world of married couples deciding not to have children. Discuss the advantages and disadvantages for couples who decide to do this.

An increasing number of married couples around the world choosing to remain childless. The main benefits of not having a child for couples are that they can focus on their careers and have more time for themselves. The main drawbacks are that they could not fit into their peers’ group and have no one to look after them when they get old.

One primary advantage of remaining childless for married couples is that they can focus on their work. This is because they have less responsibility and distractions in their lives compared to the couples that have a child. Another advantage of this is that they have more spare time. Looking after a child is a full-time job for parents and taking most of their time, while child-free couples have lots of free time after work. For example, many couples stop going out late with their friends after having a child as they have to stay at home for looking after their children.

One disadvantage of couples deciding not to have children is that they can struggle to hang with their peers after most of them have children. Most parents prefer to spend more time with other couples that have children as well. Moreover, do not have anyone to look after them in their elderliness is another disadvantage. Children are the ones who take care of their parents when they get old because their parents did the same for them when they were young. For instance, the vast majority of the people who live in care homes have no child.

In conclusion, the main benefits of staying child-free for couples are that they can be more career-oriented and have more free time for themselves, and the main drawbacks are that they could have problems about fitting into their friends’ group and having no one to take care of them when they become older.

Some would say that parents should teach their offspring how to be good members of society, while others are of the opinion that school is the best in this regard. This essay agrees with the latter point and will show that, despite the practical experiences that parents give their children, school lessons can give deep insights into what it takes to be good citizens.

Some believe that parents can educate their children about being good members of society based on their life experiences. This is because the life experiences that parents can give their children are straightforward, down-to-earth, and so they can easily apply what their parents teach them in reality. For example, many children in Thailand become more polite, honest, and caring to everyone as a direct result of the practical lessons that their parents give them at home. However, I believe that parents now are so busy and do not spend much time with their children teaching them.

Lessons at school can provide children with valuable insights into being good members of society. In class, students can receive lessons about different traits of a truly good person that society needs, and then they put what they learn into practice by creating real-life problems and solving them together. For instance, after receiving lessons in civic education at school, many Vietnamese students are more willing to help their neighbors and even strangers, and they feel extremely happy after doing something good for others. For this reason, I believe that school lessons are more influential to young children.

In conclusion, despite the practical experiences that parents can give their children at home, this essay believes that school lessons can help students deepen their understanding of being good members of society.

In many professional sports, there is an increase in the number of athletes using banned substances to improve their performance.

What are the causes of the phenomenon and what are some of the possible solutions?

In many professional sports, it is becoming commonplace for athletes to abuse prohibited substances to boost their overall performance. This essay will discuss how stiff competition and lax testing systems are the main cause of this problem, and the most suitable solutions are imposing heavier punishments on violators and revamping testing facilities.

The main cause of this problem is the fierce competition that exists in any sports. In other words, most many professional athletes feel that they have to take substances like steroids to give themselves an advantage over other strong opponents. Another reason is the lack of strictness in testing procedures. Many athletes who take advantage of banned substances can still get off scot-free due to the holes in testing systems. For example, a high-profile mix martial artist named Jon John who is notorious for using PED described how easy it was to get away with cheating in an interview in 2015.

A viable solution is to heavily punish lawbreakers. If sports clubs and establishments raise the fine for using banned substances, many athletes will think twice before making attempt to cheat. Another the way to deal with this issue is to upgrade testing amenities. This will eradicate any holes existing in the system and ensure that the test result is highly accurate. For instance, after the UFC had made major investments to provide their staff with the latest testing equipment, many fighters in their organization got caught.

In conclusion, strong competition and ineffective testing systems are the main cause of this problem, and the most suitable solutions are enforcing harsher punishments on violators and reforming testing facilities.

Details of politicians’ private lives should not be published in newspapers. To what extent do you agree or disagree?

It is thought that the information regarding politicians’ personal lives should not be shared in print media. This essay strongly agrees with this suggestion because publishing these details could be harmful to their families, and obtaining this type of information might require breaking the law.

First and foremost, what makes that the details related to private aspects of politicians’ lives should not be shared in newspapers is that it could be harmful not only to these individuals but also to their families. This is because revealing some details from their personal lives could expose them to unwanted comments or allegations, which might lead to a great deal of distress. In Poland, for instance, in 2015, the vice-prime minister committed suicide due to not handling the pressure caused by the paparazzi invading his and his family’s private life.

Furthermore, obtaining this type of information, in most cases, means breaking the law. This is because the right to privacy is one of the most fundamental policies in society, and anyone who wants to access the lives of politicians must obtain their consent. However, not only are paparazzi hired to invade properties belonging to politicians to take photos without their permission, but also politicians’ colleagues and relatives are bribed to share confidential facts from their lives. For instance, an accident in which Princess Diana was killed was partly caused by the paparazzi who followed her car, trying to take photos of her and her boyfriend against their will.

In conclusion, I strongly support the suggestion that politicians’ lives should not be subject to the interest of newspapers because revealing personal facts from politicians lives could destroy their family life and the process of obtaining these details often required wrongdoing.

Some say that music, art and drama are as important as other school subjects, especially at the primary level. Do you agree or disagree? Some people believe that arts-related subjects are as important as other school subjects, especially for primary school children. I totally agree with this statement because this can help children to discover their talents from an early age and can increase their confidence.

One of the reasons I agree that creative subjects have the same importance as other school courses in primary school is that it allows students to find out their potential talents early on. That is to say, school-age is the most convenient time for students to learn more about their interests by trying different activities as they are young enough to pursue their hobbies. They will probably not have any other chance later in their lives to discover that because they will be busy with difficult exams when they get older. For example, most famous singers were discovered by their music teachers at school from a young age, and they claimed that they could not be that successful if their teachers did not find out their talents when they were young.

Moreover, music, art and drama subjects help students to boost their confidence. That is because creative lessons teach students how to perform in front of lots of people and give them a chance to socialise with other students. As a result, students can realise their real potential and act more confidently. For instance, many psychologists suggest to students who are struggling with social anxiety to take drama lessons as it helps to enhance confidence.

In conclusion, this essay completely agrees that music, art and drama have the same value as other subjects in primary school because it allows children to discover their hidden talents early on and increases their self-confidence.

Some individuals believe that the right place to teach children how to become good citizens is the school, while others argue that parents should be the ones responsible for that. Although parents might influence their children more than anyone else, I believe that educational institutions are more trained and equipped to teach children how to become successful members of the community.

Parents influence their children more than anyone else. This is due to the fact that mothers and fathers are the ones who raise and spend most of the time with their children which dramatically influences the way children act and think. If parents act in a good manner, their children will indirectly imitate them. This fortifies the fact that no one might exert such a strong influence on their children. For example, a study in Britain showed that children are two times more influenced by their parents than their teachers. However, I believe that this is not enough and that school should be the place teaching children to become good people in society.

Schools are trained to build good citizens. Teachers spent their undergraduate years studying how to deal with children and train them to become better individuals in their communities. For this reason, educational institutions should be the place where children can safely acquire the needed behaviors to become better individuals in the future. For example, a recent study in the USA showed that 90% of schools train teachers how to help students to become better citizens. For this reason, I believe that the best place to do this is the school.

In conclusion, although parents have a strong influence on their children, I believe that the best place to create better citizens is the school because tutors are trained to do that.

It is argued that newspapers ought not to publish the details of private lives of politicians. This essay strongly disagrees with this view because politicians build a public image through such news and they could be held accountable for any wrongdoings.

On the one hand, politicians can gain public trust by building a positive image through newspapers. Being the focus of media, sometimes details of their personal interests end up on the front pages of newspapers, which allows them to gain popularity among masses, especially when their interests match with the general public. Recently, the pictures of a famous politician of Milan, while playing football with local school children were published in many newspapers, and he instantly became famous among school and college students. Hence, it helps them gain popularity by depicting themselves in a positive way.

On the other hand, publishing details of private affairs disclose the corruption of politicians and make them accountable. Many politicians usually hold a public office and are entrusted with managing public funds. If they do not spend the money on the wellbeing of people and are involved in corruption, newspapers expose their private life and put them under accountability. For example, when details of the lavish spending of the Mayor of London, while on a vacation, were revealed in the SUN, it prompted questions from many sections of the society, eventually exposing his corruption with the public money. Therefore, it is important that newspapers publish these details.

In conclusion, private matters of politicians should be published in newspaper because it allows them to gain popularity and expose their corrupt affairs.

Some say that music, art and drama are as important as other school subjects, especially at the primary level. Do you agree or disagree?

Some people believe that arts education is as significant as the study of other subjects, especially for primary students. I completely agree with this viewpoint because some educational content could be better illustrated in the forms of arts, and the study of arts is one key consideration which fosters all-rounded growth of young students.

The arts could deliver information to students, especially to those attending primary schools, in a way that words in textbooks sometimes cannot. Children may become bored and tired if they have to read or listen to too much educational content in textbooks. A colorful painting or a catchy song, on the other hand, can be much more appealing and thus more effective in conveying information to these children. For example, the Ghen Covy song has been taught at most schools in Vietnam and has become one of children’s favorite songs. This song has effectively highlighted the importance of hand washing as a means of disease prevention, and has made it easier for many children to remember every step of hand sanitization for its catchy melody and appealing dancing moves.

Nowadays, many people are commuting more than past. This is because people now can afford travel expenses. There are two main benefits of traveling such as people can gain knowledge and embrace other cultures.

One of the main reasons why the number of tourism has increased is that travel is much more affordable than it used to be. This is partly because of salary rises and partly because the price for essential goods such as food and clothing has fallen. Many families now have two income earners rather than one, they have fewer kids and often have a car. All of these factors increase the likelihood of people becoming tourists. For example, in the past, it might have cost the average person a year’s salary to travel from India to Singapore, but these days it is possible for Indian tourists to enjoy their holidays in another country for the cost of half a month’s pay.

This growth in travel means that many people can now enjoy the benefits of traveling, Firstly, traveling can help to broaden people’s horizons and adds upon knowledge. People can travel to different places and can gain knowledge of other religions, cultures, and western lifestyles. Meeting different people from vast cultures and societies provides an education that is impossible to get in a traditional school, college, or a university. Secondly, one can explore and embrace the good qualities of other cultures through traveling. For example, foreigners visiting India are often fascinated by Indian customs and traditions and always try to imitate these valuable traditions.

In conclusion, greater affordability is the main reason for increased travel, and the benefits for travelers include enhanced knowledge and increased appreciation of other cultures.

While some think that adding more and and more sport centers is the most beneficial way to improve people’s health, others think that there are better ways to do this. Although increasing the the number of gyms would motivate people to exercise more and become healthier, educating them about health is far more effective.

On the one hand, building more sport centers would encourage people to start doing physical activities. People will have no excuse if there is a gym next to their work place or house. That is why increasing the number of sports facilities will ensure that the vast majority of people have easy access to sport centers and this would eventually improve their health. For example, in 2016, fifty new gyms were opened in Baghdad and a large number of people started exercising for the first time in their lives and they became healthier. However, I think that this is a temporary fix and better steps should be taken.

On the other hand, educating people about the importance of health is a better, long-lasting solution. The media should focus more on encouraging people to take good care about their health and warn them about the possible health diseases such as heart failure and diabetes. Even in schools, young children should be educated about health from a young age in order to grow as healthy adults. For example, people in Japan are one of the healthiest people in the world because they teach their students about the importance of health. I therefore believe that this is the best way to maintain and improve health.

In conclusion, while increasing the number of sports facilities can encourage people to exercise more and improve their health, educating them about health is better because it lasts longer.

In some nations, despite declining rates of dangerous crimes, people tend to feel less secure compared to the past. The most obvious causes are previously committed crimes and detailed description of such scenes on news can make people feel less safe, and the most viable solutions are more safety measures in place and detailed description of any serious crimes should be banned on news channels.

Sometimes, previously committed crimes can make people feel less protected. This is because they still have memories of horrible crimes in their minds and make them feel frightened. As a result, they find it difficult to trust anyone and feel less secure in strengers’ presence. In addition, watching detailed descriptions of any dangerous crimes on television can have a destructive effect on people’s mental health. In other words, a negative visualization of such crimes can result in crime happening in people’s heads and making them feel less safe. For example, 1 in every 30 adults in the UK feel frightened after watching detailed news of serious crimes on television, and not wanting to go out.

A possible solution to this issue is to put more safety measures in place in order for people to feel safe. This gives them a sense of security and a way to seek help if in any danger. Another possible solution is a ban on a detailed description of any serious crimes on television. This will help people keep away from a negative visualisation and their damaging effects on their mental health to make them feel unsafe. For example, recently in India a show called ‘crime patrol’ was prohibited on news channels because it had a negative psychological impact on people after watching it.

In conclusion, previously committed crimes and detailed news on any serious crimes can lead to people feeling less safe. However, this can simply be prevented by putting extra safety measures in place and compelling news channels to stop showing comprehensive details of dangerous crimes.

Some companies make their workers always wearing uniforms. The main benefits of this is that companies are shown as reliable for their clients and their workers feel safe wearing them. However, the key drawbacks are that their staff can feel uncomfortable on hot days and demotivated by wearing the same every day.

Companies in which uniforms are always worn show their clients that they can trust them. When employees look neat wearing their uniforms, clients trust in the services that are provided by a company because it shows professionalism and order. Another advantage is that workers feel protected. In some types of jobs, employees who work with dangerous products can feel safe wearing their uniforms all day because they prevent them from getting hurt. For example, builders demand their uniforms as a basic element for their protection before starting a construction.

However, employees can feel uncomfortable in days with high temperatures. On hot days, wearing uniforms can reduce worker’s comfort because they cannot change their clothes to avoid the heat. Another key drawback is that repeating the same clothing can demotivate workers. Employees can feel tired of always looking the same because they cannot choose what they want to wear. For instance, a recent survey showed that 60.3% of people who wear uniforms do not like to wear them, and they would like to make decisions about their outfit at work.

In conclusion, although having uniforms for staff makes a company looks reliable for its clients and provides safety for its workers, they can feel uncomfortable on hot days and unmotivated due to the fact that they constantly have to wear the same clothing.

In some nations, following a vegetarian diet is becoming more popular. Although having a vegetarian diet can help to protect animals, I believe that the disadvantages outweigh the advantages because they do not incorporate all the nutrients they need.

One benefit of not eating meat is that animals are being protected. That is to say, if more people start opting to eat meals that do not include meat, fewer animals will be tortured and killed. This is because animals are reproduced, kept in small and uncomfortable places, and then killed and sold to supermarkets and butchers for human consumption. For example, cow’s meat in Argentina is the basis of people’s nutrition, so thousands of cows are reproduced and killed every year just for human consumption. However, I believe that avoiding eating meat will not make a significant difference on animals’ protection.

One drawback of having a vegetarian diet is that the nutrients incorporated through this diet are insufficient. This is because meat has several vitamins and other important components, such as iron, that are very difficult to replace with fruits and vegetables. If people are not aware of this and do not visit a specialist, it can be dangerous and lead to several diseases. For example, many vegetarian people are anemic because of the lack of iron in their diet, so they need to be supplemented with iron tablets. Therefore, I believe that having a healthy and complete diet is more important than any other thing.

In conclusion, although animals can be protected if more people start following a vegetarian diet, I believe that having a balanced diet with all the nutrients and vitamins that a person needs is far more important. Therefore, I consider that the drawbacks of a vegetarian diet outweigh the benefits.

In many nations, governments give precedence to economic growth over other issues. The advantages of this are that numbers of employed residents will increase and residents’ standards of living will be improved. However, this can cause serious environmental problems and health problems.

One major benefit of prioritising economic development is that numbers of employed citizens will significantly increase. In other words, countries, where their economies are growing, require substantial workforces to produce sufficient supplies of goods in order to meet markets’ demand. As a result, more and more citizens are in employment. Moreover, this will also offer citizens a better quality of life. This is because, when economies are growing, governments will gain more taxes from trading and can spend them on people’s welfare. For example, Singapore has been improved its economy for the last 40 years. As a result, Singaporeans have excellent public transports and the well-organised health care system.

On the other hand, focusing only on economic development results in serious environmental damage. This is because, manufacturing processes generate CO2 and other fumes, sewage, and industrial waste which are released to environments and cause air, water and soil pollution. Furthermore, industrial pollution will negatively affect people’s health by precipitating respiratory diseases as well as some types of cancer. For example, Beijing, a big city in China, is facing smog which comes from manufacturing and incomplete combustion of logistic vehicles. This leads to an increase in the number of asthma-exacerbated patients.

To conclude, while prioritisng economic development will result in an increase in employment and a better quality of life, the serious downsides that come with this are environmental pollution and residents’ health issues.

Some organizations force their employees to wear uniforms whenever they are at work. The advantages of this approach are creating a sense of discipline and displaying their professionalism. The disadvantages are that it may hurt employees’ confidence and cause them to feel stressed.

One benefit of this measure is that it would result in them being more disciplined. Every time they put on that suit or dress, they would be reminded that they are working as part of the company and that they have a job to take care of, making them more responsible. Moreover, these employees will come across as more professional when they meet clients. This is because uniforms are often designed to be more suitable for business than casual clothes. For example, how appropriate staff members’ outfits are is often cited by clients as one of the reasons they choose to do or not do business with a company.

One drawback of this policy is that it tends to make each individual feel less confident. This is because they all have their own styles of fashion, so they may feel uncomfortable putting on something that had been chosen for them. This is compounded by the fact that they must wear these outfits daily, which can be highly stressful. In other words, it is terribly frustrating having to wear the same thing in a long period of time. For instance, many major companies in Vietnam have a scheme to change the design of their uniforms every six months to slightly reduce the frustration caused by wearing the same outfit repeatedly.

In conclusion, while having a dress code can instill a sense of discipline in the workforce and make them appear more professional in the eyes of customers, this may also come with a drop in employees’ self-esteem and an increase in their levels of frustration.

In many nations, governments put more focus on improving their economies than improving other sectors. Although, residents’ earnings will increase, I personally believe that the main drawback outweighs the main benefit as this will cause environmental pollution.

The main benefit of prioritising economic growth rather than other issues by governments is that people will earn higher income. This is because governments will support companies to run their businesses more effectively. As a result, companies will gain more profits and consequentially pay their employees bigger bonuses or higher wages. For instance, In China, businesses make huge revenue due to its strong economy. Therefore, Chinese citizens are paid higher and can spend money on luxuary products and travelling abroad. However, I personally believe that earning more money cannot offset pollution problems that happen after economic growth prioritisation.

The primary downside of putting more focus on economic development than other concerns by governments is that environments will be polluted. This is because there will be far more new-built factories for supporting the economic expansion. Without ecological concerns, the air will be polluted from carbon dioxide and fumes which are emitted from these factories, and rivers will be polluted by industrial sewage from manufacturing and chemical processes. For example, Beijing, China, is facing a hazardous level of the air pollution caused by fuel burning and chemical reactions from industrial areas. As a clean environment is extremely vital for a human life, I therefore think that the main drawback outweighs its key benefit.

To conclude, although people will earn higher income if the government prioritises the economic sector rather than other sectors, the serious drawback as pollution problems far outweighs the advantage.

In recent years, advancements in technology have changed how people connect with each other. This has turned people into making much more friends but has also reduced the depth of those relationships. In my opinion, this is a harmful change due to the fact that it makes human less able to communicate their personal feelings.

Technology’s influence has enabled people to make much more friends than they possibly could in the past. This is largely owing to social media, which revolutionizes communication and helps people to keep touch with each other regardless of their geographical locations. Another change in human relationships caused by modern technology is that the number of intimate relationships made has been substantially less significant. With so many people to care about, social media deters users from strengthening bonds. For instance, a stark difference can be observed in Vietnam, where most young adults 20 years ago – when the internet was underdeveloped, had much deeper connections than their modern counterparts.

The changes made to the types of relationships people make nowadays is largely a disadvantageous one, for it deters people from having deep connections. Lacking valuable bonds means that they have almost no one to confide during depressive episodes that are inevitable for most humans, and thereby increase the possibility of making unwise decisions. Examples of this can be found all over the world, where the cases of depression that cause suicidal behaviors are becoming more and more common, and one of the primary contributing factors is victims having no one to share their burdens with.

In conclusion, despite having much more ability to connect, people are making less meaningful relationships; thus, the quality of relationships diminishes and harms their wellbeing.

Nowadays, passion for a journey from one place to another has been increasing among people. This essay will first discuss that an increasing number of tour packages is the prominent reason behind this, and it will then explain that cultural awareness and being healthy are the two prime advantages of this.

Many tour companies around the world are enticing people to travel more than ever before. That is to say, people are being offered appealing and discounted tour packages, especially during the holiday season, to explore other places. Whereas in the past travelling was very expensive and people could not afford it; however, these companies have made it possible to visit one place to another by spending a small chunk of money. For example, Travel Magazine estimated that more than 40% of Australian people travelled nationally and internationally, in the year 2019, because of cheap tour deals they grabbed from the Flight centre.

The first major benefit of travelling is that it allows a traveller to know about different cultures. By visiting other parts of the world, people get an opportunity to experience the various culture, cuisines and languages. The other significant advantage is stress relaxation through holidays. This is especially true for a significant number of people who are working many hours a week to earn their livings. During holidays, they choose to travel to different destinations around the world, and this greatly helps them to relieve their stress and keep their health in a sound condition. For example, a recent study by the Indian Medical Institute concluded that frequent travellers are happier and more satisfied with their life than those who do not.

In conclusion, people travel more often than in the past because of the tour deals they are being offered, and travelling does not only provide a traveller with knowledge about a different culture, but it also helps them to stay away from a hectic schedule

In recent years, the operation of big corporations is ubiquitous in developing nations. The essay will first suggest that economic growth is the prime benefit, while the excessive use of emergent nations’ natural resources is the main drawback.

One evident benefit of the operation of transitional companies in less developed countries is the prosperity of the local economy. That is to say, multination companies provide an inflow of capital into developing countries. This investment not only creates job opportunities for the people in developing nations, but it also helps to build better infrastructure, such as bridges, roads, and transportation facilities, for them. For example, the role of Foreign Direct Investment in the year 2010 was undeniable because it uplifted the Indian economy so fast and increased GDP and created so many jobs for locals.

The prime disadvantage is that these companies use the natural resources of developing nations recklessly, which affects the environment. In other words, Smaller, less developed governments often trade an increase in revenue for access to natural resources. This extraction of raw materials, such as oil, diamond, rubber and fuel, can cause environmental externalities- polluted rivers and loss of natural landscape. For instance, many Chinese private enterprises have been heavily criticised for using the resources of countries like Vietnam, Thailand and the Philippine and for polluting the environment.

In conclusion, huge global companies benefit less developed nation economically is the prime advantage of this, and the extraction of raw materials for the sake of profit is the main disadvantage.

How To Use IELTS Writing Task 2 Sample Essays

IELTS Writing Task 2 sample essays can be a great resource for students preparing for the test. However, it’s important to use them correctly in order to get the most out of them. Here are some steps students can take to make the most of these samples:

Understand the question: Before looking at any sample essays, make sure you understand the question you’ll be answering on the test. This will help you focus on the relevant parts of the sample essays and understand how to apply the strategies used in them to your own writing.
Analyze the structure: Look at the structure of the sample essays, paying close attention to how the writer has organized their ideas. Make note of the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion and how they are linked.
Study the vocabulary: Take note of the vocabulary used in the sample essays and try to incorporate similar words and phrases into your own writing.
Practice with different topics: Use sample essays on different topics to get a feel for the different types of questions you might encounter on the test.

IELTS Topics: Travel and Tourism

One of the common IELTS topics that appears in the exam is that of travel and tourism. In today’s lesson, I will help you learn about this topic so that you can do well in your next test.

First we will look at a little vocabulary about travel and tourism , then we will explore some IELTS speaking and writing questions to give you an idea of what to expect.

Vocabulary about Travel and Tourism for IELTS

When you prepare for IELTS, you never need to know any specialist vocabulary, so for questions about travel and tourism you may find that you can give a brilliant answer with just simple language, as long as it is used with grammatical accuracy. Knowing the difference between “I went to London” and “I was going to London” is very important, for example.

Of course, there are other things to know. It helps to know modes of transport and related vocabulary. [You can learn about transport here .] Another interesting aspect is knowing things you might encounter while travelling, such as accommodation.

You should also know the necessary language to talk about types of travel or reasons for taking a trip. Sometimes, new words enter the language, such as “staycation,” which is a very recent portmanteau .

Travel and Tourism Questions [IELTS Speaking]

The topic of travel and tourism is really common in IELTS speaking. It could easily occur in any of the three parts of this test, so you should be prepared to answer a wide range of questions. [You can find some examples here .]

These questions will be pretty general and simple. It is entirely possible that the same basic question could be asked in a number of different ways.

Perhaps the most common question would be “do you like travelling?” This is very similar to “have you done much travelling?” Of course, the focus has changed slightly but the overall meaning is similar: it’s about you and travel .

I’ll give two sample answers to these questions so that you can understand better:

Q: Do you like travelling?

A: Yeah, I absolutely love travelling. I have visited many countries over the past few years, but of course this all stopped recently because of the virus.

Q: Have you done much travelling?

A: I have done quite a lot of travelling in my life. Altogether, I’ve visited about 50 countries and I try to spend a few weeks each year seeing new places.

Note: It is unlikely that these questions would be asked together because they are very similar. Also, I pretty much answered the second one in the middle of the first answer. I just included them to show how a “do you like travelling” IELTS answer example.

Vaguely Related: Space Travel

I definitely consider space to be a separate topic from travel, but there is some small degree of overlap here. For example, there is a reported IELTS speaking question that goes something like this:

Do you want to travel in outer space?
Would you want to travel in outer space?

You might also see this incorrectly reported as “do you want to travel in the outer space?” but this is not correct. We cannot say “the” before “outer space.” It is not a single, definite place. [Read about definite articles here .]

There are numerous possibilities for IELTS cue cards about travel. Here are two of them:

Describe a place you have visited.
Describe a place you would like to visit.

Of course, these would require basically the same sort of vocabulary to answer them, but the key difference would be the grammar. In the first instance, you are talking about the past, but in the second you are talking about a possible future.

Here is another one:

Describe a memorable holiday.

This is pretty similar to the first cue card above, but the word “memorable” must guide our approach. You can see my answer in this video:

In part three of the IELTS speaking test, the questions will become more difficult. These will include abstract topics like age, gender, ethics, and so on. You might encounter questions like this:

Q: Do you think men and women enjoy different types of holiday?

A: I suppose that in general they probably do have different preferences, but of course we should acknowledge the fact that everyone is different and so there are women who enjoy stereotypically male holidays and men that enjoy stereotypically female ones. To give an example, it could be argued that men prefer more active, robust holidays that involve uncertainty, adventure, and even danger. However, I know some women who love this type of thing and so it is not really smart to make assumptions about people.

Q: Do you think that travelling abroad always changes people’s perspective on life?

A: No, not at all. While it certainly is possible that travelling can change people’s perspectives, it is by no means guaranteed. In fact, when you travel to places like Thailand, you see that most tourists have no understanding of the local culture and just hold on to their own original views. The experience may change some people, but I think most people live in a little bubble when they go abroad, and this prevents them from really learning anything.

Notes: I described the sort of travel that men like in interesting terms: “men prefer more active, robust holidays that involve uncertainty, adventure, and even danger.” This is good, descriptive language!

Travel and Tourism Essays for IELTS Writing

Now we shall move on from speaking and instead look at the IELTS writing test. In this section, I will show you some questions about travel and tourism, then show you my sample band 9 answer.

Here is a question that features data about people travelling. I thought that this travel and tourism essay was really interesting, so I have included it here alongside my sample answer.

The line graph displays the numbers of tourists that visited an unnamed Caribbean island between 2010 and 2017. The tourists are divided into two groups – those staying on cruise ships and those staying on the island itself – and these had a loosely inverse correlation. The total number of visitors, however, rose more or less continuously throughout the eight-year period.

In the first year recorded, which was 2010, there were about twice as many tourists staying on the island as those staying on cruise ships. A year later, the number staying on cruise ships doubled to a half million, but this dropped back to around a quarter million in 2012. When the figures for tourists on cruise ships dropped, the number staying on the island rose quickly and over the coming few years, as this sudden increased levelled off, the number of people who stayed on board their ship continued to grow again.

Between 2012 and 2017, there were more and more visitors staying on cruise ships. From just a quarter million, this rose to two million, while the figures for those on the island levelled off at just one and a half million and then dropped slightly in the penultimate year, before finishing at one and a half. This meant that, for the final two years, more tourists stayed on cruise ships than on the island.

Notes on the Answer

In the introduction, I said “an unnamed Caribbean island.” It can sometimes be difficult to introduce something whose name you don’t know, and this is a really convenient way to do it. I strongly recommend you say “an unnamed ___” when this situation arises.

I have also used very few numbers in this essay. Instead of writing 250,000 or 2,000,000, I have said things like “a quarter million” and “two million.” This is much easier. [You can read more about IELTS and numbers here .]

Here is another travel and tourism essay question:

In future, more people will choose to go on holidays in their own country and not travel abroad on holiday.

Do you agree or disagree?

Sample Band 9 Answer

In recent years, people have coined the word “staycation” to describe the phenomenon of taking a holiday closer to home. This essay will argue that such holidays will become more common in the future.

First of all, it may seem as though international travel will become increasingly common, but in fact it is quite clear that it is an unsustainable trend. The carbon cost of flying to another country is enormous, and so many people have begun to ask whether it is ethical to continue doing this. Beyond just the personal level, it is clear that pretty soon governments will have to impose restrictions to limit the number of flights; otherwise, the world will suffer immensely from the burden of so many journeys.

In many parts of the world, people are probably ready to embrace this situation. Humans have had a terrible impact upon the world and many feel that it is time to undo the damage done. This involves some measure of personal sacrifice, which in this case could be forgoing the sort of international trips that used to be quite common. However, this is not all bad. Although foreign countries and exotic locations are exciting, there are treasures almost everywhere. Countries like the UK have poor weather, which is why so many people travel to warmer climates, but the natural beauty of the landscape and the extraordinary historical and cultural sites present myriad options for curious travellers. There will likely be a resurgence of interest in such trips.

In conclusion, it is quite possible that in the future people will realise how much damage humans have done to the world. Many of them may endeavour to make the sort of sacrifices necessary to counteract this ecological destruction, and one small step is embracing local travel.

Notes on the Essay

First of all, you can see that I incorporated the word “staycation” right at the beginning. When you use modern language like this, please don’t just jam it carelessly into your essay. Often, it is very informal, so you can only use it when properly introduced. In this case, I clearly explained its meaning and commented upon it from a sociological perspective.

You can see that a lot of my language related to the environment, and of course that is often tied to the topic of travel and tourism because of the negative impacts these have on our planet.

Write about the following topic:

Many people nowadays travel abroad for their university education.

Why do people do this? Would you consider doing this yourself and why?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your knowledge or experience.

You should write at least 250 words.

In recent years it has become normal for high school graduates to travel abroad for their university education. There are numerous positive aspects to studying in a foreign country, such as the discovery of new cultures, the possibility of learning more about oneself and the chance of learning a new language.

By travelling to a foreign country, it is certain that one will be confronted with foreign customs and traditions. Experiencing and understanding these customs and their origins provides students with an interesting chance to develop a more open-minded attitude towards others. Additionally, it is also extremely stimulating to learn more about the reasons behind certain traditions and practices.

A prime reason for students studying abroad is the prospect of finding oneself and growing as an individual. When living in a foreign country, students have to become increasingly independent and they are confronted with their strengths and weaknesses. Typically students develop increased self-esteem and also acquire or improve upon their skills of housekeeping and cooking, which are important for living independently later on in life.

When living in a foreign country students are exposed to a new language and in most cases attempt to learn it. If they already possess some knowledge about the language, they have the possibility of advancing and improving upon these skills with the native population. The ability to speak multiple languages offers students a higher chance of being successful on the international job market, which makes studying abroad an attractive choice.

Personally, I would like to study abroad in either Scotland or France, because I would like to experience the life and customs in these countries. Additionally, I would like to become more fluent in French, as I believe this will be beneficial for me later in life.

In conclusion, studying abroad offers the possibility for students to grow and develop as individuals and to acquire valuable skills that will be useful in adult life.

1 do you like travelling.

Yes. Travelling just changes your mind and refreshes you and makes you forget the busy work schedule. When you start enjoying yourself for some time, you get charged up.

2 Whom do you often spend the holiday with?

I often spend my holidays with my cousins at my grandma’s place in Hyderabad which is the capital of Telangana state. We enjoy each other’s company.

3 Have you done much travelling?

Yes. I have. Places which I visited have a very rich heritage and are colourful like Jaipur which is also known as the pink city, Hyderabad which is also a great metropolitan city, Nagpur famous for its oranges, Delhi famous for its shopping centres and food, Punjab famous for its lively atmosphere and etc.

4 What kind of places have you visited in your life?

I have visited almost every type of place where people enjoy their life, places where people have a lot of opportunities to express their creativity, places which are well known for their educational facilities etc.

5 When you visit new places, what do you like to do?

Whenever I visit a place the first thing I do is search about the history or past of that place ,then record the experiences I get there. I write about what I did , what I liked etc. I just jot down in my travel diary so that whenever I open and read it I can relive those memories.

6 Do you prefer travelling alone or in a group?

I prefer travelling in a group as it’s always safe and most affordable. Also when we go on a trip as a group we are bonded with different type of people and make a lot beautiful ,sour and sweet memories.

7 Do you often travel abroad?

I haven’t travelled abroad yet. First I want to tour all places within my country.

8 In which seasons do you prefer to travel?

I prefer travelling in winter because the weather and atmosphere remains cool and soothing and it feels good to travel when it’s cool and soul-satisfying.

9 What is the best season to travel in your country?

The best time to travel in India is in the span of November to February when it is mixed weather. In this period it’s cold and dry simultaneously.

10 Would you say your country is a good place for travellers to visit?

Yes , definitely. India is considered to be one of the best countries to travel to because of its rich and diverse culture. The way the people in India welcome others with such a warm heart is tremendous to be felt.

11 What would you recommend a foreigner to visit in your country?

Each and every place in my country is significant for a particular thing. I would rather suggest a foreigner to tour all over India because there is not even a corner here that isn’t unique.

12 What places would you like to visit in the future?

I would like to visit New York and also Switzerland. These are my most favourite and desired destinations because of their scenic beauty and also the people who are very generous and sweet.

13 How much time do you spend travelling on a normal day?

On normal days I don’t spend much time as you know I’m pursuing my studies and working simultaneously. So it is really difficult to travel on normal days.

14 What do you do while you are travelling?

When travelling in a car I just sit back and enjoy the scenery. When on the train I really prefer sleeping and if I’m travelling by flight I would prefer reading a novel with my music on.

15 Do you think your hometown is a good place for a holiday?

Yes , definitely. My hometown is the best place to visit on a holiday as it has the best scenic views and a lot of places to roam around. Also my hometown is kind of famous for its delicious food and shopping areas.

16 Are you planning any vacations at the moment?

Yes, I am actually planning a vacation at the moment. I’ve been considering taking a trip to South Korea, which is known for its unique food and beautiful landscapes. I believe it would be a great opportunity to unwind, explore a new culture, and take a break from my daily routine.

17 Can you easily find your way around new places?

I would say that I’m quite adept at finding my way around new places. I enjoy exploring unfamiliar destinations, and I usually start by researching the area before I arrive. I rely on maps and navigation apps on my phone, which are incredibly helpful. Additionally, I often ask for directions from locals, which not only helps me find my way but also allows me to interact with people and learn about the local culture.

18 Can you tell me about the kind of things that you usually do on holiday?

I spend most of my time with my family members because my holidays are the only time I am available to them. I also pay visits to my extended family members. We as a family love to talk a lot, play games, watch films and go shopping.

I love to visit places, but due to my busy schedule, I am unable to go out on a lot of trips on holidays. Before the global pandemic started, I visited Sikkim with my family. I don’t clearly remember the exact date ,but it was in the month of May, 2019. It was summer, but the weather was very soothing there. Sikkim is one of the smallest states of India situated in the North eastern part. Since my childhood I was drawn towards mountains more than I was towards the sea. Mountains always used to be peaceful and calm and I think that is the most attractive part of it. We started our journey from Pelling which is a small town in the northeastern Indian state of Sikkim, at the foothills of Mount Khangchendzonga. The town is filled with monasteries and waterfalls. Pemayangtse Monastery is another equally important Buddhist shrine in Pelling. I visited the place the same day I visited Khecheopalri Lake,Rimbi fall, Kanchenjunga falls and Singshore bridge. It is the second largest suspension bridge in Asia. The next day we visited Rabdentse Ruins and in the evening we were off to Ravangla. Unfortunately it started to rain so we were unable to visit anything but Temi tea garden on our way to ravangla. The next day we were off to Gangtok. We stayed there and went out on alternative days for sightseeing. We visited Tsomgo lake, Seven Sisters waterfall, Banjhakri falls, Rumtek monastery. The days we were not sightseeing, we used to spend quality time in the Gangtok “mail” which they used to call their shopping markets. We were unable to visit Nathula Pass as it started to snow heavily. We visited Yumthang-the valley of flowers and the flower shows of Gangtok. The beautiful snow capped mountains, the waterfalls, the monasteries, the lakes, the people and everything was so serene and beautiful. Sikkim increased my love for mountains ever since. I had a memorable trip which I will relive forever.

The Colosseum, one of the few intact Roman Empire constructions, stands today as a testament to ancient Rome’s architectural and engineering prowess. It is also a significant source of tourism.

I visited it with my family during a trip to Italy. I have always been very interested in the history of Rome, so I was excited about this visit. The Colosseum is a Roman amphitheatre open to the general public. It was built solely for the amusement of the Romans, and there were numerous games held there during the week in ancient times. It was famed for hosting exotic animals, chariot races and gladiatorial combat. We did the underground tour of the Colosseum. Our guide told us how the lower levels would be flooded with water to simulate naval battles during the shows. She also gave us great detail in terms of the architectural structure and cultural importance of the site. I learned a lot and was amazed by the sheer scale of witnessing it in real life as opposed to photos. I would definitely recommend checking it out if you have the opportunity.

I happened to have a trip to Darjeeling a few years back. I don’t exactly remember the perfect date, but it was soon after my class 10 board examination. It was a trip conducted by my school authorities which can be classified as an excursion. Darjeeling is one of the prettiest hill stations in India located in the northern part of West Bengal. It’s all about magnificent views of snow capped Kanchenjunga, streams flowing down the mountain slopes, lovely tea gardens, landscapes with firs, pines & ferns, and all that combined with friendly people and modern yet colonial charm. We took a train from kolkata to NJP station. From there we took a bus that was pre-booked by our tour guide manager. There were fifty students and 8 teachers,along with our tour guides. We were served our lunch packets on the bus. We visited the beautiful himalayan railways aka toy trains. It was so beautiful to get a city ride on a toy train by the side of the mountains, stopping at every beautiful spot. The majestic view of the mountain on one side and the busy lives of people in the city was something worthy of watching. We also visited Batasia loop, Tiger Hill,ropeway,Himalayan Mountaineering Institute , the zoo,Rock Garden and several other places. We stayed there for about a week. On the evening of the fifth day, we were given permission to buy things from the shopping area of Darjeeling. As it was an excursion, it’s needless to say about the amount of fun I had there with my friends. On the sixth day we were off to the NJP station recalling the very new memories and sadness of the ending of our much-awaited trip. We bid our goodbyes to the most beautiful place of our dream, but the art of heaven, named as Darjeeling, will remain cherishable in our heart and brain forever.

Since I study in Bhubaneswar and stay in Kolkata, the trip from home to college is often the trip I dislike to make. The journey from Kolkata to Kalinga is the most disliked journey I have to take every now and then.

I return to Kolkata whenever I get a long holiday in my college and whenever I want to spend some quality time with my family.

Being born and brought up in a bengali family, you are bound to be home-sick. And I’m no exception. Just everytime I get a chance, I pack up and return home. So, I have to make the trip back to Bhubaneswar when the holidays are over.

Whenever I return home, my mother pampers me so much that I always feel reluctant to return to the college hostel and live on my own. Though good food is available in the hostel, it is no match to the home-cooked food. So, whenever It’s time to return to the hostel, the thought of doing everything on my own is the very reason why I dislike travelling. But there’s one more reason too. I have to travel alone most of the time and since this is long, I often get bored by the monotonous journey. I usually travel in 3 tier AC, and the people travelling are on a trip to Puri with their family, which makes me want to return. They are all to themselves, and being a grown up it seems awkward to reach out and start a conversation. Thus the dislike becomes stronger each time.

A few years ago, we were on a road trip to Digha. It was my elder sister’s Bachelorette party. There were ten of us, out of which five were her friends, and 5 were cousins. We booked a ten-seater van to travel. It was air-conditioned. If I can recall, it was in 2018.

The first few days flew swiftly. Then, the west winds started. Bengalis call it Kalboishakhi. Storm, rain, and sea never go well together. Beaches were a prohibited place, and we were instructed not to leave the hotel. Thus, we were stuck inside the hotel room and were all to ourselves. The return trip was canceled, and our journey got delayed. But it was the best time of the year. We had parties and were gossiping, recollecting memories, and even were on movie marathons.

We were supposed to return after a week. But we returned after 15 days. Even though the situation was challenging, we were having a good time. The weather was scary near the sea. No tourists were out. But I loved the journey even though it got longer than expected.

So when we returned, we had a lot to plan and organise for my sister’s wedding. But keeping in mind the storm and the sea, we were buckled up for whatever work stress that was about to hit.

Last year we were on a trip to Puri.

It was a trip with my family members. We hadn’t been anywhere for a long time, so we decided on taking a short trip to freshen our moods. My father always has this habit to pre-plan all the places according to the days.

One day, we went sightseeing in Chilka and several other places nearby. It was a long day planned till evening. It was all according to plan until my father decided to take the advice of our driver. He was a localite and knew every road and turn. He was well accustomed to the history of the temples and the places. He suggested we visit a few temples that were really beautiful. He also added that the history of those places was very intriguing.

We returned 3 hours later than we had planned but the journey there was worth the time, we lost. We visited 3 temples, and the driver took us to a small village near Kalinga. We saw handloom works and several other things that will forever stay in our memories.

It was an unnoticed, not so famous village. The people were so humble. We wouldn’t have visited the place if he hadn’t suggested it to us. I had fun, and so did my parents. If I visit Puri next time, I will revisit the place.

The thing that troubles me more often than not when living in the city is that majority of people are riding motorbikes rather than cars. As a result, most people don’t know how to drive a car, including me, which also annoys me, since I have always wanted to take a road trip across the country. A road trip by car from the south to the north of my country would be tough and adventurous because hundreds of marvelous destinations are waiting to be explored. However, it is worth taking risks and stepping out of your comfort zone to truly experience what life has to offer when your legs can still carry you rather than to regret later in your life.

“If you wanna go fast, go alone. If you wanna go far, go together.” It might be fun if you were a lone traveller and didn’t enjoy getting lagged behind your schedule. But, the adventure could be more colourful and unexpected, when you’ve got company, especially during a long journey like the one I prefer. Hence, my choice would be to pick up a close friend or two who share the same vision, the same eagerness to capture the beauty of nature. We would start from the south where we are living and move north. On the go, we could stop by our favorite beaches a little longer than other places because there isn’t anybody who doesn’t have time for juicy coconuts and white sand paradise. Traditional cuisine would also be our utmost priority whenever we reach a new place as the best way to live like a local is to eat like a local. A car is our best choice because it would give us room to comfortably converse with each other and shelter from inclement weather during our journey if any. It is not only about the destinations but also about the time I would love to spend with my dear friends as we would share the same space in a four-wheel vehicle along the road; and at the end of the day , it’s the people that matter.

Well, it has been two years since I had my very first motorbike trip with my colleagues to one of the most ancient villages situated in the Northwestern part of our country. And I have to say that it was the most memorable trip that I’ve ever had.

Our group with 3 people made a decision to visit a village because we wanted to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and get off the beaten track. Moreover , the village was fairly typical of the countryside in our country, so we wanted to get an insight into the lifestyle of local people there.

We set out for a day trip quite early. I’m always a night owl , not an early bird , so leaving the city at 5 a.m made me feel like I was deprived of sleep. However, I was over the moon shortly after embarking on the trip to the village. This was because on the way to get there, we had a chance to get the magnificent views of breathtaking landscapes which is totally different from the city we are currently living in. After a long drive, we got to the picturesque village which made me feel deliriously happy. We rented some bikes to cycle around the village to feel the vibes of the village. After that, we visited some 400-year-old ancient house and had a look at communal houses where the local people gathered for festival celebrations or public meetings. Then we had lunch and the food was scrumptious . In the afternoon, we joined a cooking class with the villagers who were extremely friendly and clever at making traditional cakes. The highlight of the trip to the village was going to the paddy fields to help the farmers harvest the crop. It was once-in-a-lifetime experience which we really enjoyed. My friend was like a dog with two tails while I was also on cloud nine . We relished everything in the village from the fresh air, cozy ambience to beautiful landscapes such as small houses or paddy fields. We hoped that we can have a longer trip to the countryside down the road if we had more spare time.

Yes, people in India like to travel. India is a colossal country to travel around. There are so many beautiful and adventurous places here. Hence people of India are athirst to travel from one place to another. Indians are always keen on discovering the daring and quixotic moments through travel. Nowadays, Indians mostly travel with friends wherever they get a vacation or a weekend

With the growing population and economic growth, India has changed especially in regards to travel. People now travel for uploading travel blogs, pictures or everyday travel videos on social media.The mode of transportation has improved a lot, as travel now is cheaper, comfortable and faster. Nowadays content creators go to places, find stuff and share in social media which is phenomenal. Now travel has become so easy that anyone can go for a long vacation.

3 When do people travel (as tourists), whom do they usually go with?

People usually travel with family friends or loved ones for a weekend to a neighbouring country or for a family vacation or for long travel. There is something within us that triggers us to pack our bags and visit a new place. Tourists mainly visit India, especially the southern part of India, during April – May and December for experiencing the crystal blue waters and soft white sand beaches. Tourists usually visit India with family and friends. Some people come with their loved ones to spend their most adventurous moments of life.

4 Do you think travel can (or, does) change people’s ways of thinking?

I think travel has made people better communicators. It has allowed people to be more patient. Through travelling, people can get to know a lot more about the world around them. Travel increases the desire to meet new people and pushes one to explore all kinds of amazing, admirable things. You become a well-rounded person just by experience. Travelling focuses on a greater sense of empathy and we also gain knowledge about diverse cultures. Interaction with people is another pathway to revitalize our minds. I think travelling really develops a personality. They become less judgemental, more stable, more open-minded, find themselves more optimistic, and don’t panic often.

5 What are the disadvantages of not travelling?

There are many disadvantages of not travelling to a new place. Many educational and health benefits will be missed. We will be unable to learn new cultures and languages. Memories for a lifetime will really pass over. You will not be able to deal with the stress, if you don’t take a break and travel. Also, you cannot sense and appreciate independence. You cannot boost confidence within yourself. You cannot realize your passion if you are not physically exploring places.

6 how do most people in your country travel to work.

Most of the people in India own a vehicle. It could either be a two-wheeler or four-wheeler. And the ones who don’t have a private vehicle travel through public transport like metro, buses, or by local trains. Sometimes they travel by subways too.

7 People in cities used to like living downtown but now they prefer to live in the suburbs. Can you explain why?

In suburbs there is a lot of free space available. Also in most suburbs, there is an element of peace and people lead a normal life. But in cities, the places have become more and more compact with population increase. One more advantage of suburbs is that the cost of living is low.

8 What is the impact of vehicles on people’s lives?

Owning a private vehicle is very common nowadays. It makes our life easy as we can travel at our convenience. People have started travelling from one city to another. Vehicles have made their life comfortable. People have also become a bit lazy as they tend to take vehicles even for shorter distances and also a lot of fuel is burnt in this process.

9 Do people in your country prefer to walk or take a car for short trips?

People in India mostly prefer taking a walk if it is a very short trip like walking to the nearby grocery shop. Walking is also essential for a person to maintain proper metabolism. Walking is preferred because firstly it is, of course, environmentally friendly and also it boosts up our immune system ,energy, and also keeps our heart healthy and fit

10 How can big cities deal with the problem of having many people crowded in the same place?

We can help people by providing them with valuable and good sources of information to plan a visit. E.g., Help schedule the time of travel. We can also improve the infrastructure in an area that can reduce overcrowding in the particular region. We can also encourage corporate companies to build technology parks in the suburbs and villages as well.

11 Are there any connections between transportation and the environment?

Yes, there is a direct linking between travelling and the environment. When the weather is perfect and soothing, we enjoy travelling. If the heat comes right above our head, we get irritated and will not enjoy our trip.

12 Does your hometown have problems connected to transportation??

The transportation in my hometown is not good. The public transport can’t be trusted because the buses don’t arrive on time. Also, the people aren’t educated and are unaware of the timings of public transport. The most important thing is that women are concerned about their safety in public transport.

These problems can be solved by making people aware of the timetable of the buses. They can also educate the drivers about being on time. The people can be trained to use metro options too

Cycling is given a lot of importance in my hometown because it is good exercise. People are educated and know that it helps in increasing cardiovascular fitness, muscle flexibility, decreasing stress level and that it also makes our mind fresh and boosts up our energy level.

Car is faster and effective than bicycles. A car can hold more stuff into it, but you can’t carry heavy items in a cycle. Also in a car, safety is guaranteed because of its compact and secured design. A car can house a group of people but a cycle cannot. Also it is way more comfortable than a cycle.

Riding a bicycle helps in building mental and physical fitness. It helps in saving a lot of money too. It is rejuvenating to take a cool shower after cycling for an hour or two. As we have pros, there are cons too. We may be exposed to the day’s temperature, which can harm our body ( if it is not moderate). We can meet with accidents. Cycles are theft-prone too.

Government can create separate lanes for cycling. They can also introduce some schemes related to cycling. Marathons can be held in a regular interval of time. They can even distribute pamphlets regarding the importance of cycling to encourage people.

Having good transportation in a city makes life convenient and helps people reach their destination on time. It will be safe for girls to travel. Also, it helps in less consumption of fossil fuels like petrol or diesel. By this, we can help in reducing the pollution as we will use the buses rather than our own vehicle.

There are already many plans that our government is looking into, and one of them is the technology of the bullet trains, which can help people travel in less time at a very reasonable cost. Yes , many of my friends travel abroad when they get holidays. Also, many such people are there who go out of India to experience more about the culture, food , people ,climate , of foreign countries.

Some people go abroad to work to get more exposure and gain experience. Some people like to travel a lot. So they take up a job which will help them in travelling. They even travel to embrace a new lifestyle and also to learn a new language.

Due to the increase of population and growth of the economy in big cities, people rush for work everyday which is the main cause of traffic problems. Sometimes non recurring events like road accidents slows down road traffic and weather problems also result in immobility of vehicles.

The more the lanes, the higher the capacity a road has. So cars should be able to drive faster, but that’s a very narrow analysis of the problem. I think public transport might change in the future. The world is changing fast. Cities are growing, and the urban population is rising. Nowadays it’s very convenient and affordable and also we have a lot of options as in to travel anywhere but this wasn’t the case in the old days . People who are old or babies usually get tired in the long-distance journey. If we are with a group of people and travelling, it becomes fun, but if we had to travel alone, we tend to get bored. And also most importantly, it can turn into travel fatigue which disturbs our daily lives.

I will now talk about some of the essential things people need to take when they go on a trip: a neck pillow for train or flight travel to relax the body. Eye masks are also crucial for good sleep, as we also need time to energize ourselves through sleep. We need to take our clothes accordingly by keeping in mind the weather of that particular place. You can take a camera with you to capture those beautiful moments, which would remain handy. Chargers and power banks are very crucial during travelling. Skincare products and other necessary makeup materials can make you look glamorous with a photoshoot.

Yes, I think there lies a difference between men and women when they plan a trip. Women start packing a month early. They make several lists, pack for themselves and their kids. They plan many activities for their kids, and they get busy with packing different varieties of clothes and makeup. Women stage things serially and in an organised way, but men remain leftover with last moment packing. Men drag 2 – 3 pairs of jeans, shirts and 3 pairs of socks and shorts, and they’re done. They generally make sudden plans.

International travel has an impact on the relationship between the tourists and localite. It builds a bond between the people of the two countries involved. This bond will eventually mature into foreign settlements which will be beneficial for both countries in the long run. It also helps better import and export systems.

With the passing ages, everything has changed. Places have changed their infrastructure. Villages have turned into metropolitan cities. I think currency is an important factor too. The value for money has changed too. What cost 1rs back then, might cost 10 rs now. So yes, that’s a factor too.

57 Can you suggest some things that people should and should not do when they travel to a foreign country as tourists?

People visiting foreign should not exploit their land and properties. One should not make fun of their culture and sentiments. Thus the person visiting a foreign land should respect it as how they want to be treated by their visitors/tourists.

58 Do you think that the media has many effects on tourism?

Media has a tremendous impact on tourism. In the modern world, people rely primarily on social media and news. An unknown place can turn into a popular holiday destination overnight. So yes, the media impacts a lot. Media has also captured attractive pictures and videos which have attracted many tourists too. So behind the popularity of a place, the media played a vital role.

59 Some think it’s not necessary to go to tourist places, now that we can see these places on the internet. Do you agree?

Some people think it’s not necessary to go to tourist places because we can see places on the internet. But it’s like watching a picture of your favourite food and filling up your appetite. Unless and until you are present in that area in person, you can never feel the true essence of the place

60 how do you think travelling today is different from what it was several decades ago.

In modern times, we have different modes of communication which were not in history. Earlier people used to walk and used animal drawn carts to travel from place to place. The discovery of petroleum was the light of revolution. Now, one can visit places conveniently.

61 In 20 or 30 years, how do you think travelling will be different from what it is today?

With every passing day, the level of crude oil is decreasing. Many vehicles are being idealised to draw fuel in alternative ways. Tesla, is one such example. I am sure there will be inventions like this. So yes, there will be a huge difference between today and the future generation. Soon there will be a way to resolve the issue, and we might be able to run a vehicle via solar energy, or any other source for that matter. Even though there will be a lot to plan and implement, mankind will overcome every hurdle.

Modern technology and travel

62 in what ways has modern technology changed people’s travelling experiences.

In the earlier times, people used animal drawn carts or palanquins to travel from place to place. With the inventions of technologies, the vehicles have also become modernised. Modern technologies have reduced human effort and so of animals. It has saved a lot of time and it is much more convenient.

63 Do you think the internet has had an effect on people’s travelling behaviour today?

Yes, the internet has impacted indirectly on people’s travelling behaviour today. We can sit at home and book train tickets or flight tickets. One does not have to go to the station and search for trains or go to the airport to book tickets. The Internet has made online services like Ola,Uber or Rapido, which will help us to reach our destination in a shorter period of time.

64 If you were going on a trip, what essential modern technology would you carry, and why?

If i am travelling somewhere, i will carry my cell phone. It’s the modern technology I choose to carry because it will help us in several ways. Beginning with google maps, contacts, or helpline and emergency numbers. Among all the boons of mobile phones, the advantages overshadow them. One can capture the beautiful moments of the trip on their mobiles. They can also play music during the trip. So a mobile phone serves many purposes while you travel.

Yes, definitely! I think getting to know the world, from great historical monuments to white sandy beaches, is what life is all about . It’s a very interesting way to learn about new cultures and explore new places.

Whom do you often spend the holiday with?

It depends on what kind of holiday it is. If it’s Christmas vacation, I prefer to hang out with my friends here and there and have a chit-chat. If it’s the New Year holiday, I just want to celebrate the holiday with my family and relatives in a cozy ambience.

Have you done much travelling?

Well, I’m an international student, so I travel a lot. I’ve been on a road trip to the USA, a vacation to Japan and Korea when I was younger. Thanks to my father. And most recently Australia – a splendid country.

What kind of places have you visited in your life?

I prefer to visit the places which elevate my mood and energize me. I have been to some of the beautiful beaches and lakes in my country. These places bring me closer to nature and rejuvenate me.

When you visit new places, what do you like to do?

It seems to me that there’s a lot of stuff to do when visiting a brand-new place. At first, I would love to take photographs to bookmark my travel experience as well as share it with my best mates. Culture vulture seems to be my other character when I feel like discovering the places of great aesthetic appeal everywhere I set foot in.

Do you prefer travelling alone or in a group?

Well, it depends on my current mood. A trip to the off-the-beaten-track destinations, mountainous or forested place, for instance, will be my initial choice if I feel devastated. On the contrary, I will congregate and sign up for guided tours as it’s a chance to be shown around and take photographs – one of my hobbies when feeling overjoyed.

In which seasons do you prefer to travel?

I guess it would be autumn. This season has little rain, clear skies, and temperature conditions. It’s really the best season as most places are at their best at that time.

What places would you like to visit in the future?

If I have the chance to visit one famous place, it will be Paris, a must-see place for me. I would love to visit the Eiffel Tower, to tuck into French delicacies in prestigious restaurants. In addition, it’d be great for me to visit the Louver Museum and discover history as well as La Sorbonne University – the oldest educational institution in modern France.

If the choice is in my hands, I’m yearning for travelling to Paris on Christmas vacation when the weather is neither too cold or too hot.

Do you like travelling?

Passing the IELTS speaking test with a good grade will depend on your ability to answer the questions using appropriate vocabulary in the correct context.

Collocations are words that naturally combine to form a phrase.

These words when used in combination make the English speaker sound more fluent and natural. This is why you should be learning collocations under various subject headings to help you do well in the IELTS speaking test.

Answering questions about travel and holidays

It’s always a good idea to start with what you enjoy. What’s your favourite holiday destination or holiday resort? Is there a well-known tourist attraction or popular holiday destination in your country you could talk about? What is the main holiday period in your country or in your region? What tourist attractions are most popular during the national holidays?

These topics are so popular in the IELTS speaking test. They can be used to answer questions on lots of different themes (an interesting day, a terrible experience, your birthday for example).

But what if you’ve never been to a foreign country or on a guided tour? It doesn’t matter at all. Remember that you don’t have to tell the truth in an IELTS exam – you can say anything you like. Perhaps you heard a great story about a wildlife safari or a beach off the beaten track from one of your friends or family members and you get a question asking about YOUR favourite holiday – well, then your IELTS speaking exam should be easy!

Examples of questions about holiday travel

Part 1 questions.

Examiner: Where do you like to travel during the holidays?

Answer: I like to travel abroad but international travel can be expensive, so I usually plan affordable travel . Travelling to holiday destinations when it is out of season saves a lot of money. Out-of-season travel is also the best way to avoid places that are swarming with tourists.

Examiner: What are your favourite holiday pastimes?

Answer: I like to get away from it all . I look for exotic destinations with scenic views that are off the beaten track . I’d love to go on a wildlife safari! I tend to avoid guided tours and packaged deals as I prefer to go sightseeing on my own.

Examiner: How do you plan and prepare for your holiday?

Answer: I always do my research because I know exactly what I like. I thumb through holiday brochures and check travel sites like Airbnb on the Internet. I’m drawn to spectacular beaches and lush forests. I usually make advance reservations for self-catering accommodation .

Part 2 style questions

Examiner: describe one of your best travel experiences..

This type of question supports a when, where and who reply.

Answer: Last year a friend and I took a long-haul flight to Peru. We were travelling light so we were able to really get around . We stayed in quaint villages and hiked through lush rainforests . We were determined to do as the locals do , rather than go on guided tours, so we stayed with local people for part of the trip.

We visited colourful craft markets and brought back souvenirs, to remind us of our trip. One of my most memorable experiences was to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. It is a little bit off the beaten track but it is surrounded by great scenic beauty and magnificent landscapes.

Examiner: Describe a city that you think is interesting.

You should say:

how you knew this city
explain why you think it is very interesting

Part 3 style questions

Examiner: What type of holiday destination do you think attracts most tourists?

Answer: I know that many people are drawn to wildlife safaris . This is certainly one of the big attractions in Africa. In Europe and Asia, the stunning architecture , museums and arts and culture attract thousands of tourists every year.

Examiner: Do you think that the tourism industry will continue to grow in the next two decades?

Answer: I do. Many European and Asian countries have aging populations who will have time on their hands in the future. Many of them are likely to seek holiday destinations around the world . Today there are many affordable destinations that offer good value for money.

Examiner: What do you think your country could do to attract more tourists?

Answer: My country has stringent visa regulations . If these were relaxed, I think that more visitors would choose to visit. We have an efficient public transport , plenty of accommodation and natural and historical places of interest.
