A report writing is a formal style of writing in detail about something that has been observed, heard, accomplished or researched. It is a systematic and well organized presentation of the facts and results of a case that took place somewhere already.

Components of Report Writing

  • Byline: To tell about the writer, date and place of the story.
  • Lead: Covers the most important facts.
  • Body: Includes detailed information.
  • Ending: Conclusion by telling solution to work upon and the actual causes.
  • In starting, on the top left corner you need to mention three things one after another vertically, first is ame of the reporter, second the place from where it has been reported and the last is the date of the report. In exam you can just write ABC in the place of writing the name of reporter, and place would be your exam location and the date would be your exam date. Below is the sample given how to write the three ABC New Delhi 7 August 2022
  • What was the event?
  • Where did it take place?
  • When did it take place? (Date and Time)
  • Who was involved in the event?
  • How did the event happen?
  • Whole report is always written in the past tense.
  • Event has already happened and you are reporting the same event as a reporter.
  • Try to avoid biasness, As a reporter you just need to state the facts in the report. A good report is one which is neutral with all the important details.
  • You can add value to your report by adding recent relevant studies, committee, reports of relevant organizations. It must be relevant and make sense.
  • You can quote other people whose statement has value and relevant to the topic of the report.

Example of Report Writing

Example – Domestic Violence against women in India (CAPF AC 2014)

ABC New Delhi

7 August 2022

Violence against women is a serious problem in India. According to the latest National Family Health Survey-5 report, Nearly one-third of women in India have experienced physical or sexual violence. While domestic violence against women has declined from 31.2% to 29.3% in the country, 30% women between the age of 18 and 49 have experienced physical violence since the age of 15 years, while 6% have experienced sexual violence in their lifetime. The survey finds that 32% of married women (18-49 years) have experienced physical, sexual, or emotional spousal violence. The most common type of spousal violence is physical violence (28%), followed by emotional violence and sexual violence.

The term domestic violence (DV) is used in many countries to refer to intimate partner violence, but it also includes child or elder abuse, or abuse by any member of a household. According to WHO, one in every three women across globe experience physical or sexual violence by an intimate partner or women who have been in a relationship have experienced physical and/or sexual violence by their intimate partner.

Substantial amount of data has been generated by official agencies particularly the NCRB, and the NFHS (National Family Health Survey), to promote an informed discussion on the phenomenon, not to speak of NGO reports. For recent years, information has been gathered through the MHRD’s dashboard to coordinate with the organizations providing assistance to affected women through the OSCs (One Stop Centers), apart from the national and state level women’s commissions.

All of the above mentioned facts point to the pervasiveness of domestic violence in the country, spreading across regions, religions, social class, educational backgrounds and age of both victims and perpetrators. Studies and experience on the ground both puncture any understanding which may repeat stereotypes that only poor, uneducated man beat their wives and are abusive. There is a need to accept that in India certainly growing up male is about internalizing a sense of power of gender. Far from critical engagement with these prejudices, the gendering of power seems to have become a public project in recent years.

Essay Sample for CAPF Exam

Here is a sample essay on the topic “Role of technology in improving internal security”:

A nation’s internal security is critical for the well-being and peacefulness of its residents. Technology has played a crucial role in strengthening internal security in recent years by giving new tools and solutions for sustaining law and order.

Surveillance systems are one way that technology has enhanced interior security. Security organisations can more efficiently monitor people’s movements and follow suspicious behaviours with the use of CCTV cameras, drones, and other types of technology. This has resulted in the prevention of numerous crimes as well as the rapid resolution of security risks.

Biometrics is another way that technology has enhanced internal security. Biometric technology, such as face recognition and fingerprint scanning, can properly identify people and help prevent identity theft. This technology has proven to be very beneficial in regulating immigration and guaranteeing the security of sensitive places.

In addition, technology has played an important role in increasing inter-agency collaboration. Security agencies can instantly communicate information and respond to security concerns in real-time thanks to digital communication and data-sharing technologies. This improves the overall efficacy of the security system and speeds up the handling of security concerns.

Finally, technology has played an important role in strengthening internal security. With significant technological breakthroughs, it is projected that the use of technology for internal security reasons will continue to increase and give new solutions for preserving law and order.

Nonetheless, it is critical to guarantee that the use of technology for internal security objectives is done ethically and responsibly and that people’s privacy is maintained.

  • Lack of coherence and structure: Make sure your essay is well-organized and easy to follow. Use clear headings and subheadings, and ensure that your ideas are logically connected.
  • Poor language and grammar: Write in a clear and concise manner, using proper language and grammar. Avoid using slang or overly complex language.

Précis Writing Sample Question with Answer

  • Question: Sample Comprehension Passage

During the launching of a satellite, the rocket must travel in exactly the right direction and at exactly the right speed. Radio signals are automatically sent back to Earth from the rocket. These signals tell men on the ground how the rocket is travelling and help them to make sure that it is going as it should. The signals go to special calculating machines called computers that work very fast. The computers work out whether the rocket is travelling correctly. If it is not, they calculate what correction is needed. Radio signals send the correction to the rocket and make it automatically change its direction or speed as necessary.

D-GIA-JBOS, Artificial satellites are used for many things. By sending them through the upper parts of the atmosphere we can find out more about the atmosphere. The more air there is, the more slowly the satellite will travel until it falls to Earth. By sending satellites around the earth at different heights, we can find out how much air there is at each height.

We can find out more about the shape of t the earth by means of mean satellites. If the earth is not perfectly round, its gravity will not be the same everywhere. Because the pull of the earth’s gravity keeps the satellite in its orbit, any change in the gravity will change the orbit. By watching the way a satellite travels, we can find out whether the earth’s gravity changes anywhere. If it does, we know that the shape of the earth is different at that place. In this way, artificial satellites have shown us that the poles of the earth are flattened and that the South Pole is flattened more than the North.

Satellites can give us information about the weather. By sending up satellites with television cameras on board, we can get pictures of the clouds below. Each picture shows an area the size of one or more whole countries. By looking at these pictures, we can see bad weather before it comes to us. By getting warnings of hurricanes or typhoons in this way, people can get ready to shelter from them. Weather satellites can also show us when the rain will come. Men are now trying to forecast weather all around the world with the help of satellites. (385 words)
