Write Here, Right Now:  An interactive Introduction to Academic Writing and Research utilizes PressBooks to create and host a writing e-textbook for first year university students that would effectively integrate into the flipped classroom model. The textbook could also be used for non-flipped classroom designs, as the embedded  videos, diagrams and linked modules would act as an all-in-one multimedia textbook geared towards multiple learning styles and disciplines. The components of the textbook, including the embedded  videos, could be swapped in and out in order to accommodate  a professor’s  best idea of his/her own course design.

Student services at Ryerson will be more important than ever this year. Fall 2020 is one for the history books in terms of “back to school.” Whether you’re joining the Ryerson community for the first time or returning to a new virtual learning environment, use this as your guide to student services and supports to kick off the semester on a strong note.

With the majority of services shifting to an online model for the semester, Ryerson’s Office of the Vice Provost, Students, has created a one-stop-shop called RU4U where students can get easy access to information they need to succeed this fall. Ryerson Today has pulled together highlights from RU4U, and more. Check it out below.

Learning assistance

Whether you’re in residence or learning off-campus, Ryerson has the resources students need on their learning journey.

Student Life & Learning Support

Learning Support helps students engage more effectively in their academic studies. Through 1:1 consultation or virtual workshops, students can learn essential skills and study techniques. Math, writing, chemistry - whatever you need - support is available with Learning Support. Learning Support is operating virtually this fall.

Academic Accommodation Support

Academic Accommodation Support (AAS) helps students with disabilities at Ryerson by creating and implementing individualized academic accommodation plans. They are currently offering virtual support to all registered students.

Tri-Mentoring Program

Ryerson’s Tri-Mentoring Program   (TMP)   pairs first-year students with upper-year students in the same program to help ease the transition into postsecondary life.   Looking to find a community to connect with or do you identify with an equity-seeking group?   TMP offers peer-to-peer, group, and career mentoring opportunities. Student well-being

We all know that general health and well-being is an important aspect of a successful academic experience. Especially now . Ryerson’s Student Wellbeing services are vast and cover lots of needs that students have during the school year. 

Centre for Student Development and Counselling

The Centre for Student Development and Counselling (CSDC) offers free confidential counselling to students. Students can email or call for appointments by video or phone. The CDSC has also partnered with the Keep.meSAFE App for 24/7 services.

Medical Centre

The Medical Centre offers health services to students. They are currently offering appointments and assessments by phone and video. The Medical Centre also has a ton of resources online for any questions students may have about things like flu and sleep hygiene.

Right now, many of us are looking for ways to build resilience. Resilience is especially needed when managing a busy academic schedule with the stress of regular life. Thriving in Action Online is a service that students, faculty and staff can explore mindset activities, habit changes and motivation. Students can login with their Ryerson ID.

Extra-curricular

There is more to university life than Zoom calls and papers. Ryerson has several services and resources for when students need a break from studying.

Mattamy Athletic Centre (MAC)

Varsity sports may be on hold right now, but students still have access to Ryerson’s state-of-the-art athletic centre. The MAC is home to a large group training and fitness space. Students can reserve  (external link)  a workout time online in 90-minute increments. For anyone off-campus, follow @RURecreation  (external link)  for at-home fitness tips, as well as access to live and on-demand group fitness classes.

There is a near-endless selection of groups students can join when they are at Ryerson. Gaming, yoga and K-pop groups are just some of the examples.

Looking for opportunities to engage in campus life? ConnectRU is your one-stop shop for events that are happening (virtually) across campus this year. With hundreds of events posted at any given time by faculties and departments at Ryerson, there's something for everyone.

Career and Co-op

Planning for the future is part of the university experience. Ryerson's Career and Co-op Centre not only helps with life after classes, but life between classes as well, with on and off-campus work opportunties.

Career and Co-op Centre

The Career & Co-op Centre is Ryerson's central resource for students and alumni up to five years after graduation to access innovative career development support. The Career & Co-op Centre supports Co-op programs for the Faculty of Community Services, Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science and the Faculty of Science. They also connect Ryerson students with on-campus work opportunities through the  Career Boost program , and off-campus work opportunities through engaged employer partners across industries.

Indigenous student services

Indigenous students, faculty and staff are an important part of Ryerson’s community. There are services, programs and resources available to students from the Ryerson Aboriginal Student Services.

Ryerson Aboriginal Student Services

Ryerson Aboriginal Student Services (RASS) is a culturally supportive environment for the university’s Indigenous students. Tutoring, admissions support, financial assistance and traditional counselling services are available to First Nations, Inuit and Metis students. The RASS also has cultural and peer-support programs to ensure that everyone feels welcome and comfortable. The RASS team is available by phone or email to support students this semester.  

International student services

Students from around the world study at Ryerson every year. The university is prepared to make sure they have an easy transition to life in Toronto.

International Student Support

International Student Support (ISS) welcomes international students to Canada, Toronto and Ryerson by connecting them to the university’s vibrant culture. Members of the ISS team help with immigration and status letters, as well as cultural, financial and social supports. ISS services are accessible online.
